Some things were creepy, some were a level of obsessive detail that required long minutes of marveling, and some were inspiring. 2 hours is a sufficient visit, and you will want to reserve time to peruse the bookstore and get a snack, lunch, or beverage at the café. The museum is in the garment district, and the art may inspire you to pick up some fabric to make a collage.

A floor up, sunlight floods a year-long showcase residency called Turbulence in the Balkans, featuring Eastern European works but unfortunately, no brass bands. Sad dance party loss. The store wasn't as modern inside and it didn't have the typical WHSmith experience which one would get in the UK, but it was a decent store nonetheless. They really do need to work on the entrances though, the only entrance due to COVID is up steps which wouldn't be disabled friendly, meanwhile, the front entrance is used as an exit - surely they should just use one door each for the front to accommodate everybody? 3* - Not a bad book store overall, a familiar brand which I like, service impersonal and prices a little high though.

Anything and everything Little Prince! The owner is super friendly and very nice to talk to. The music is calming, the shop is orderly and well stocked. The shop opened in the 50s by an American called George Whitman and he initially named it Le Mistral. I believe the name changed in the 60s to what we know it as today. Founded by Sylvia Beach in 1919, it was a hangout for many American and British writers when they lived in Paris. Like any great bookstore, this retail establishment has an impressive inventory of books in English, in all major categories: Children's literature, classics, culinary, culture, economics, history, politics, travel, etc, etc. We checked 4 different days, and finally got in on our fifth try. The shop is a labyrinth of interconnected rooms, and actually takes up nearly a whole block. The check-out clerks will stamp your books with the Shakespeare & Co logo and name; so it's fun to gift a classic, like Winnie the Pooh, to your grandkids. With the availability of Amazon, it is difficult to justify a purchase from here when you know you can get the same product online and delivered to your home for less. Unless it truly is a book you cannot find on Amazon, then by all means, it's worth the buy. But if you can find it, just get it online. Why waste luggage space and money? The staff are indeed a bit standoffish and prefer not to socialise or try to assist you unless they know for certain that you can speak French fluently. But it is also an advantage in that you won't be hassled to get something.

Galignani is a wonderful, old money bookstore in Paris located on the rue de Rivoli. They cater to…read morewell heeled clients and carry an enormous selection of books including luscious coffee table books with an emphasis on the arts, culture and fashion. There is also a large English language section in the latter half of the store which is fascinating to peruse. I often see books there which I've never heard of in the USA, especially ones related to European history and royalty. Should you have misplaced your Almanach de Gotha, look no further. In short, it is always a sheer pleasure to get lost in the unhurried world of Galignani.
