I happened upon this place after I was driving around desperate to get a decent haircut late in the day (late in the year even it was after Christmas but before N.Y.E and I was about to fly back home to expensive haircuts in LA.) I was a bit cautious as there was very little info/reviews for it online, but the outside looked clean so I gave it a shot. I walked in and was immediately greeted and put into the chair for a cut. My barber Corey was very friendly and offered me a cup of coffee before we started and followed by saying all his cuts come with a wash. I was actually a bit surprised at how nice the place looked inside given the outside neighborhood is just kinda meh in the curb appeal dept. I normally hate when barbers talk to me while working as I'm a bit of an introvert and don't care for chit chat, but Corey's small talk was fine. He even gave me tips throughout the whole thing, such as how to get the best out of your conditioner, proper ways to use hair sculpting wax, and his opinion on the best way to stop thinning hair. I kept hearing a dog yelping somewhere and he apologized saying it was and his wifes new "kid" (puppy) and they were crate training it (i love dogs and it wasn't too loud so I didn't mind) Apparently he and his wife own the salon and both do hair.He told me about how he got into the biz because his dad was a barber, and apparently his wife is certified in hair coloring (which I didn't know existed). As he cut,he talked about how they met and travel around to hair conventions and when I mentioned I liked his tattoo he explained it went with his wifes in some sort of Chinese compatibility/tradition,aka it was adorable. As mentioned above my hair has started to thin/fall out on the top :( and lately I've just gotten used to it being more noticeable right after a haircut. But when Corey was done I was honestly shocked at how good it looked. The cut itself was solid, and the thinning spot looked totally full and flush with the rest. He finished up, I got the bill (that's when I noticed they also have a tanning bed for those interested) it was $30 bucks which I thought was more than fair considering it came with a wash, not pushy conversation, and honestly the best cut I've ever had (this would've easily cost around $80 bucks back home in LA not to mention the wait time). This was 3 Christmases ago now and honestly toward the end of the year I let my hair grow out as long as I can for the purpose of visiting these guys when I come back into town for the holidays. Gone 3 times now and its been the same solid experience each time.So yeah, as someone who always thinks what kinda freaks actually right that much for an online review!...definitely 5 stars!
Pros:
-Family Owned (any business a husband and wife run always wins in my book)
-EXTREMELY knowledgeable ( they teach at conventions for Christs sake!)
-Clean and chic in appearance
-He refers to their dogs as their kids
-He keeps a slow cooker near his station to keep towels warm, how genius is that?!
Con:
- I can't afford enough trips to Tulsa to make them my regular hair spot! read more
