We have to drive an hour from where we live so it's disappointing when an item we want is not in stock or isn't on the shelf but it is in back but hasn't been put on the shelf yet. The biggest frustration comes at self checkout. A couple employees act like drill sergeants suspecting each shopper is going to steal something. On top of that their shopping bags are the cheapest and worst anywhere. Today before leaving self checkout the bag ripped at the bottom and my purchases fell out. The smarty pants employee suggests "you need to double bag". My thoughts were Fresh Thyme needs to buy better bags. I then told the employee that we broke a $15 bottle of wine from Fresh Thyme when their paper bag gave way in my garage. My garage smelled good but shattered glass was everywhere. The unsympathetic employee again snipped, "you need to double bag" to which I again suggested Fresh Thyme buy better bags.

My daughter got her first pimple…read more What does a dad do when catastrophe strikes the preteen visage? Only one answer: Miracol cream. This stuff has been around forever...I know this because I used it when I was in middle school - eons ago. My football helmet would leave a series of pimples centered on my forehead and on my chin underneath my chin guard. Anyway, the stuff works. And, there is only one place to get it: Merle Norman. Not to be condescending, but I was shocked to find that this place still had a shop in the local mall; I mean, I don't hear the kids talking about how rad Merle Norman is. Regardless, on my Saturday runs, I swung by to pick up a tube for my kid. There was only one person working when I arrived. She was busying herself with something underneath a cabinet and when I cleared my throat and said, "excuse me," I think I scared the hell out of her. I don't know if it was the extraordinary beard or the fact I am covered in tattoos, or if I was just the first - possibly only male - customer of the day, but I got the sense I am not the average demographic of customer they are used to. I explain to her what I was looking for, and she scrambled around to find it. She was extremely nervous. I tried to make small talk to put her at ease, explaining my history with the product and I was introducing it to the next generation. No matter what I said, I think it just made things worse. She fumbled to find some chapstick to give me as a free gift, she dropped the items trying to bag them, and she forgot to give me my change. Again, very kind, just extraordinarily nervous. On my next visit, I will send my daughter in with the credit card to save anyone the possibility of a breakdown. By the by - the pimple is history.
