I always am happy to see natural-type food stores in small towns, and that is certainly the case…read morehere. This seems like a labor of love for them, and I am glad that they have stayed in business for so long. A noteworthy feature of the store is the prepared food selection. I'm not sure if there are any regular restaurants with organic-type food in Platteville (I doubt it), but at least I know that I can get something to eat here. They have hot food for lunch several times a week, plus soups and various cold prepared foods every day. The selection of bakery goods is especially nice. Everything is prepared on the premises, and they also have a very nice dining area in the converted apartment above the store (up a steep staircase). The vegan vegetable soup that I tried was excellent, and I also enjoyed the lemon shortbread cookie that I tried. I was disappointed, though, that even though I was informed that everything is organic, that actually is not true of the meats used in the prepared food products. So I plan to steer clear of foods with meat in them when eating here in the future, since I do not do well with meats when the animals have been fed glyphosate-contaminated feed. I actually threw the chicken salad that I bought away because it was inedible to me. I wish I had read the ingredient list before tasting it, rather than trusting what the store employee told me about all the prepared food being organic. The fact that they are using non-organic meats in the prepared foods seemed a little odd to me since they actually have a very, very nice selection of organic local meats in the freezer section. So it must just be that they are trying to keep costs down on the prepared foods, in order to increase sales volume. That is not a strategy that I really approve of, but it may be necessary for them to stay in business, I guess. As is evidenced with the prepared food, there seems to be a strong vegetarian/vegan emphasis throughout this store, with many such products being stocked. The fresh produce section was pretty good (though i am not sure what it will be like in winter months). I bought some frozen ground lamb and thought the quality was very good. It has been hard for me to get good lamb here and so will be buying that from this store again. They also stock New Century organic pastured eggs, which I have found in the past to be very good quality for eggs available in a supermarket. Those eggs are no longer being sold in Galena/Dubuque though, and so I very well may make special trips to this store to buy those eggs during the winter months, when it is harder to get good eggs from local producers. The selection of cheeses was pretty good, though with the local products, it would be really helpful to know what the animals are eating (e.g. grass-fed, organic feed, GMO-free feed, conventional feed). It would be pretty easy for the store to collect that information and supply it, if they chose to do so. I thought it was nice that there were a variety of store-made frozen soups being stocked (though I would not eat a high percentage of them since they were made with non-organic meat). I was not particularly impressed by choices of packaged goods products stocked by the store, since I feel that in many cases that they had not selected the better products from various categories. A lot of their products were non-organic and had ingredients such as "natural flavors" in them, for instance. In addition, I felt that the packaged goods products were across the board quite high-priced. I would like to see more local packaged goods too. I guess in keeping with their lunchtime focus, their selection of drinks was quite good, and the prices on these were not too bad. Again, all in all, it is great to have a market like this in a town like Platteville. If I lived in town, I would likely come in regularly to buy produce, meat, eggs, cheese and prepared foods. And I undoubtedly will go out of my way to stop by again when I am in this general area or when I need eggs or lamb.

Always love finding local quality food in small towns and Driftless Market nailed it! I had the…read moreBLTG (Bacon Lettuce Tomato Gauc) wrap, chicken wild rice soup and lemon shortbread cookie. Great and unique business to the main square of Baraboo! They moved a couple blocks into this…read morelarger facility, which was much needed due to their endless supply of products crammed in their first store. It says a lot about variety of products and many different health issues they aide. Fantastic place for vitamins or teas. When I was pregnant they had plenty of options for supplements that really helped, and the staff member was very knowledgeable and great in assisting which products might be beneficial. They also have quality foods, including refrigerated items, that a lot of vegans say good things about. The spacey new store layout is very airy and products well-labeled. Extremely well- lit with natural sunlight. The only downside is the street parking and it being a little too pricey to visit on a regular basis (at least for myself). That aside, still great for quality specialty items. Stop in and check it out for yourself.

Relaxed and clean environment. John whom I believe either owns the store or manages it was engaging and welcoming. I let him know I was fairly new to the area and he was helpful in giving me the information I asked for regarding natural health care providers in the area. Three years outside of the Covid scare we can see how a lot of the mandates that were put in place by the professionals were not necessary nor helpful. The past negative reviews for this place are made based on those individual's beliefs in regards to masking. It is their free choice just as it was/is the free choice of the individuals of this business. It's irresponsible to review a place based on your beliefs on masking rather than reviewing them based of the goods and services they offer. This place is all about actual healthcare not politically fueled "healthcare".

I was also searching for some supplements for my mom, but lets not kid ourselves, I was there for the malted milk balls. The health hut still has a fabulous selection of vitamins, supplements, and hard to find health foods. The parking lot in the back is very convenient, since the store is right on 1st Ave and there isn't really any parking in front. However, the parking lot appears to be a hangout for the locals. It's not exactly Cabrini Green, but I wouldn't walk around here alone after dark (or after noon, actually). The staff is always very helpful, they seem to really know what they're talking about and care about their customers. They aren't just there to sell you something.

I went to this area, new to Cedar Rapids wondering why people would call an area ghetto simply because Black people live there. I was immediately skeptical based on the comments, but was met by people of many cultures and walks of life who spoke as they passed. Some smiled. NOTHING is scary about this area so ignore the ignorance preceding my review. If you're afraid of people who don't look like you, stay in your bubble and disengage from society period. Anywho, enough about foolishness from foolish people. I ADORE ALICIA and really appreciate how she went out of her way to help me and answer my questions. There is a wide array of products, many specials and discounts, and the prices are great! I always come in for one thing and leave with 7 or 8 when I go to stores like these! There is parking on the side near McDonald's and in the rear so it's pretty convenient to get to. I will be a frequent customer and am SO GLAD I CAME!
