On the way to find a late lunch in town, we walked past this place ..... and then immediately…read moreturned around and went inside. The reason? A sign I could not resist: "CHOCOLATE COVERED BUTTER TARTS." Yes please. Inside, it's a very charming chocolate shop, with a lot of different creations. They've got shelves and pretty displays of candy, a large quantity of fudge (which actually seems to be one of their specialities, they offer free samples) and then a lot of truffles and other chocolate covered things. So, we picked up a couple of chocolate covered tarts. They have a variety of tarts and coverings. I had a plain tart with a salted caramel chocolate covering, and Lee had a plain chocolate and butter tart. One minus is the checkout is a little chaotic. There were a group of kids waiting, and it was a little confusing who was serving who, but we got it all sorted out. Later, we had these for dessert. Chocolate covered was a little bit of a misnomer. They're more chocolate topped, and the chocolate, while tasty, was a thick disc covering the top, which made it a little awkward to eat. I ended up just eating the disc separately. However, it was delicious, and that awkwardness shouldn't dissuade you from giving this place a try.

They have quite a few things going on in this store. Between sweets, gifts, and Internet accessible…read morecomputer, they might be doing a bit too much. I'd like to see them focus on their strengths and really develop the food and small gift section.

One of my favourite things to do on a Saturday morning when I'm at the cottage is visit the OSFM…read more Located in the heart of Owen Sound's bustling Downtown district, it's the place to be (if you're cool...like me) on a Saturday morning, especially in the Summer. While the market runs year-round, there are less vendors out during the winter season because the actual building they run the market out of is very tiny. The St. Lawrence market puts this place to shame size-wise, but this market has a more intimate feel, which is what buying local is all about, isn't it? In the Summer time, vendors line the entrance way and take up some of the parking lot (which can get quite busy/completely full with cars. Have patience..) which adds even more options for potential dinner(s). Tip: arrive as early as you can before everything runs out! They have: -A little coffee place that also makes breakfast sandwiches and small stuff like that -Organic and non-organic fruits and veggies -Organic meats including sausages (spicy, honey garlic, plain) lamb, beef, poultry, venison, bacon etc -Yummy goods baked by Farmer's wives -this is the real deal! (I recommend the German apple cake from the woman inside towards the back of the building, the tarts that are sold outside are also good too) -All sorts of plants (one guy there sells GIANT lillies) -Beeswax candles -Pottery, sculptures, art work, knick-knacks, etc -Sometimes there's a guy there who sells $20 bottles of olive oil who is a really good sales-pitcher. The oil does taste really good though. When you're finished over here, take a nice stroll downtown and check out some of the bookstores, or sit by the ravine in the shade with a coffee.

Cute farmers market Saturday mornings year around. Free parking in lot right by market or just…read morebehind. Items for sale like fresh produce, meat and poultry. I got some maple syrup and roasted coffee here. Also some artisan stalls for jewellery and art. In terms of things to eat, there is a place to get drip coffee and breakfast sandwiches, a place to get espresso based drinks and a stall selling delicious Syrian food. Items tend to sell out later on during the morning.
