    Left my skin feeling great!

I had an AMAZING facial experience. Very relaxing and professional. I look forward to going again!

My hairstylist at Aveda is graduating in 2 weeks and couldn't do layers to save her life. Somehow they look like a mullet. Got it fixed at a GREAT CLIPS for cheaper. The hairdresser there laughed at my cut and pulled other employees over to look at how bad my layers were. I was laughing too, just so bad. Overall aveda is a good concept, just keep expectations in check. In other news, the great clips in grandview is wonderful.

    Practice, practice, koi pond?

Had a facial and a manicure. The service was good. The facilities left quite a bit to be desired as a spa.

Before, all of the hair from my shoulders down was from boxed dye.

My experience at Mason Anthony School of Cosmetology has been, without a doubt, my greatest…read morefinancial regret as an adult. Seeking a meaningful career change, I pursued massage therapy program. Upon enrollment, I was given a brief tour and required to complete various paperwork, including a student handbook and a contract stating that Mason Anthony would deliver the 600 credit hours mandated by the State of Ohio to graduate from massage school. In exchange, I paid approximately $7,000 in tuition--an amount I opted to pay in full rather than through financing or a payment plan. This was a significant financial investment, one I made in good faith, expecting to receive a structured and comprehensive education. My decision to choose Mason Anthony was based primarily on its affordability and accelerated program length, with the expectation of graduating in just under a year. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that lower tuition came at the expense of quality education. From the outset, I had concerns. Despite reasonable expectations for hands-on training early in the program, it took three months before I was allowed to perform a massage on another person. Even then, there was no structured guidance from the instructor, who failed to demonstrate proper techniques before requiring us to practice on classmates. The most glaring issue was the instructor himself. He demonstrated a complete lack of awareness that students learn at different paces and through various methods, making no effort to accommodate diverse learning styles. When I privately voiced concerns about being unprepared, I was dismissed and told to rely on senior classmates for guidance. Instead of providing structured education, the instructor wasted class time telling exaggerated personal anecdotes, complaining about his salary, and openly criticizing the administration. Instruction often consisted of watching online videos rather than engaging in hands-on learning. Worse still, he was frequently observed sleeping at his desk during in-person classes and even during Zoom sessions, with classmates documenting these occurrences. The lack of professionalism and commitment to student success was astonishing and unacceptable. For seven months, this subpar instruction persisted, with conditions deteriorating over time. During this period, the instructor canceled class approximately 17 times, equating to 68 hours of lost instruction--hours that were fully paid for but never made up. Instead of addressing this issue, the school arbitrarily awarded students credit for those hours without providing any educational content. The situation reached a breaking point when, without warning, the instructor abruptly resigned, notifying students via email just five minutes before class was scheduled to begin. The administration claimed they had no prior knowledge of his departure. What followed was a complete breakdown in communication and instruction. For a month, the school provided no structured education. Instead, the Operations Manager--who had no formal massage education--assigned essay questions as a means to accrue credit hours. This practice was nothing short of a fraudulent attempt to cover up the institution's failure to provide the education it had contractually agreed to deliver. I later learned that the daily one-hour lunch break we had taken for seven months was not authorized, yet the school still counted it toward our 600 required hours. This means that rather than receiving four hours of education per day, we were only taught for three, yet credited for four. In reality, I estimate that I received only half of the promised instructional hours, with much of my learning coming from self-study, video tutorials, and discussions with fellow students. When I raised these concerns with the administration, their proposed solution was an insult: they offered me the opportunity to retake the course free of charge with a new instructor. This was unacceptable. I had already sacrificed income from my full-time job to attend school, and I could not afford to repeat the program due to the institution's failures. The administration attempted to feign ignorance of the previous instructor's negligence, fraudulent credit hours, and multiple canceled classes--including several Zoom sessions. Their response demonstrated a complete disregard for their students' time, effort, and financial investment. After 11 months in the program, I graduated, only to realize I had not received the fundamental education necessary to pass the State of Ohio MBLEX licensing exam, which costs nearly $300 to take. The inadequacies of the program left me unprepared for the very career I had sacrificed so much to pursue. The school failed to uphold its obligations, and I refuse to accept the financial and professional consequences of their negligence. Mason Anthony needs to be held accountable for it's failure to provide quality education.

This place is not a school -- it is a…read moremoney-grabbing, unprofessional, unsanitary nightmare disguised as a cosmetology program, and I am genuinely surprised no one has filed a lawsuit against them yet. Let's start with my personal health. I was on steroids for a rash and needed to take my medication WITH food--doctor's orders. When I asked for a lunch break, they refused and told me, "salon girls don't need to eat. I was forced to take my medication without food and got extremely sick as a result. That alone should be illegal. The grading system here is a joke. They grade you based on your appearance -- whether your makeup is done, whether your hair meets their standards. If you don't look the way they want you to look, they send you home and tell you that you have to be back by a certain time or you get a write-up, or you're not allowed back in at all. Write-ups are handed out for cussing, not performing tasks to their liking, or not meeting their ever-changing appearance standards. Those write-ups turn into suspensions, which set you back on your hours -- hours you are PAYING for. Speaking of hours--this school will change your hours and how many you need to make up whenever it's convenient for THEM, not you. They drag out your program specifically to squeeze more money out of you. And if you signed for a used kit at enrollment, they'll eventually tell you that you "earned" a new kit--without mentioning it costs $3,500 until you're already locked in. On top of that, if you are somehow terminated, they will find a way to make you owe $13,000 to the school, even though that amount is not included anywhere in the paperwork you signed when you enrolled. This is one of the biggest cosmetology school scams operating right now. They do not care if you show up. They do not care about you as a student or a person. They care about one thing: your money. If you are not a favorite of one of the 21-year-old teachers, your experience at this school will be completely unfair. Teacher's pets get special privileges, can mess around all day, do absolutely nothing, and face zero consequences. Meanwhile, other students are being written up and suspended for minor things. And yes--students can SNITCH on each other in exchange for special privileges. They have built a culture of favoritism and manipulation that would make you think you were back in middle school, not enrolled in a licensed cosmetology program. The dress code changes every single day. There is no consistent rule list. The rules change every month, so you are constantly being penalized for something that was perfectly acceptable the week before. Customers have made sexual comments to students at this school. Brittany knows about it. Nothing happens. Those customers are never told they cannot return. The school does not protect its students. They do not care about mental health. They do not care about bullying. They do not care about racism. If you bring any of these issues forward, you will essentially be told to suck it up and that everyone struggles. That is their solution. They do not care if you are sick. They do not care if you have a funeral to attend. They will make you come in regardless and will not give you time off under any real circumstances. The sanitation standards at this place are appalling. It is a walking health code violation. I am genuinely shocked that more regulatory action has not been taken against them. This school is run more like a sorority than an accredited institution. The amount of gossip that comes directly from the so-called owners and teachers, shared with and about other students, is embarrassing and deeply unprofessional. These are supposed to be adults in positions of authority. The girls who say they enjoyed this school are, without a doubt, the ones who received favoritism and special treatment from the start. For everyone else, this place is another form of hell. Do not enroll here. Working at a Chinese sweatshop would be a better use of your time and money than ever setting foot in the Salon Institute. You deserve a school that actually invests in you; this is not it.
