Sheridan has the heart of a teacher and explains things in a way that makes sense. Additionally, she has a huge heart and loads of empathy. I remember the first time I called her was in the evening after I had been discharged from the hospital from giving birth to my first son. My milk had come in and I was painfully engorged but unable to get my son to latch. She returned my call right away, calmed me down and set up an appointment to see me the next morning on short notice. It was such a relief. I call Sheridan my fairy godmother of breast feeding. Call Sheridan for any of your breastfeeding needs. You won't regret it!

This review is long overdue, but I can't recommend Sheridan highly enough! If you are nervous, have…read morequestions, or need help breastfeeding, see Sheridan. If you are waiting for your milk to come in, are worried about your supply, or are keeping an eye on your baby's weight, see Sheridan! A friend recommended taking a breastfeeding class while I was pregnant, and I took Sheridan's class at Women's Care Medical Group. I hadn't realized that I had no idea how nursing worked and what was involved from latching, to pumping equipment, to balms and butters. Her class was super informative and made me feel confident about nursing. Of course, I didn't think I was going to have any issues (just like I thought everything was going to go according to my birth plan!) After our son was born, he lost quite a bit of weight and my milk was late coming in. We were advised to supplement with formula and see a lactation consultant right away. I called Sheridan, but unfortunately she was out of town that weekend and we ended up making an appointment with someone else. We ended up seeing two other lactation consultants, who were great at showing us how to get a good latch and how to pump 8x a day to increase supply, but were not super helpful beyond that. Two and a half months later, at the end of my rope with pumping and ready to give up on nursing altogether, I called Sheridan. She came over the next morning, on Christmas Eve day no less, and within minutes completely put me at ease. She is so good with babies, and with stressed out mamas! She gave me a plan to actually stop pumping and keep nursing. She even let me borrow her scale for a week so I could weigh my baby and make sure he was gaining at a good rate. The follow up care she gives is worth the consultation fee alone. She followed up with us to check in and see how we were doing pretty often. She was totally there for me when I would get stressed out that he wasn't gaining enough weight, talk me through it, and help me troubleshoot where we could make some tweaks if needed. Sheridan is not only an amazing lactation consultant, but she is also definitely someone you want in your support network. She was really there for us when we needed her. Long story short, my son is almost eight months and we're still going strong! I am so proud of both of us for sticking it out, and we owe so much to Sheridan's expert guidance and care. I really don't think we could have done it without her. If you need to see a lactation consultant, I wouldn't look any further. She's the best!

* The best decision we made for our little one! *…read more As first-time parents, we were recommended Rotem by someone we trust--and working with her was truly an incredible experience. Simply put, she is phenomenal: deeply knowledgeable and experienced, compassionate, friendly, proactive, and endlessly supportive. I could go on and on. Rotem first visited us at the hospital, where her guidance was far more helpful and reassuring than what we received from the staff. She then continued supporting us once we were home, visiting multiple times a week during our baby's first month. She helped us learn what to do, supported us emotionally, and set clear expectations for what to expect--every step of the way. We are forever grateful to Rotem for the care and confidence she gave us during such an important time, and she has our highest possible recommendation.

Having her as a resource as we went through the transition of bringing our son home was the best decision we could have made. She came to the hospital the day he was born to check in on us and did several visits with us once we got home. She helped me feel confident in breastfeeding, offered suggestions and tips when I was struggling with a painful latch, showed me different ways to breastfeed and pump more comfortably, as well as sharing help and support with babywearing, tummy time, and so many other newborn questions. I'll be forever grateful for her help during this transition and will be recommending her to all of my friends.

I am writing this review because Sheila Janakos doesn't just help new parents in her store/lactation support center but she is also a generous soul who helps the community. I have been on the board of a nonprofit for 32 years now called Nursing Mothers Counsel which provides free lactation support via phone with volunteers trained in lactation and counseling support. We are a great back up source for parents who may not need the expert support that Sheila and her IBCLC staff provide, or who are in need of support after business hours. We are so grateful to Healthy Horizons for donating 4 Medela Symphony Pumps to NMC for use as grant rentals for low income families we serve. This substantial donation will certainly help many low income families in the Bay Area and Santa Cruz County. Sheila has remained an affiliate member of our small non-profit and supported NMC with donations throughout her many years associated with our organization. Thank you so much Sheila and Healthy Horizons for your generosity and support!

Breastfeeding my second child didn't come as naturally as it did with my first, and I was feeling desperately discouraged. When I noticed the early signs of mastitis, she dropped everything to support me. I also had supply issues and wanted an opinion on that. Joanna was very kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable about both issues. She suggested a few different bottle types to try, talked about if my daughter needed a tongue tie clipping, and also identified why my supply never came in. For the first time I understood why my supply didn't come in (pre-pregnancy hormone reasons) and Joanna made sure I understood the biology behind it. I wish she had been there at the hospital! Overall it was a very great experience. I never felt bad that my daughter is formula fed or for having supply issues. Joanna has a host of knowledge and I recommend her to all new moms!

In our…read morefirst appointment, my son had a known tongue tie but we were waiting on an appointment to fix it. I had been pumping and already needed to supplement with formula due to low supply. I really wanted to be able to nurse him, but Joanna didn't really provide any helpful guidance on how I could do this. She just said to use Doctor Brown's bottles and come back after the tie was fixed. I came back after the tie was fixed but she only spent about 10 minutes with me. He latched for a few minutes and said his latch was fine. I told her we were still struggling at home and I could not get him to latch. She said again his latch was fine and that was it. I drove 30 minutes each way with my baby just to be made to feel completly inadequate. I'm honestly surprised she still works at PAMF.  I recently had my second baby and was so lucky to have had a wonderful lactation consultant at the hospital who helped me with positions and sent me home prepared. Due to some swelling issues, I had to see another lactation consultant a few days after going home. I found one who spent an hour with me and I haven't needed another appointment since. She ensured I was comfortable in different positions, did a weighted feed, showed me massage techniques for the swelling, and much more.
