This is the perfect B&B. I can't think of anything that wasn't excellent…read more The owners are kind and gracious and have created a lovely establishment. Sometimes guest houses are either extremely cluttered or filled with cheap Ikea furniture, but this house is well furnished and up-to-date. I particularly liked the breakfast room with antiques and green walls...so British! Location is perfect, just a 5 minute walk to the train station or to the center of town. Our room was very spacious and well appointed. The windows are double pane so it stayed nice and warm. Water pressure and heat was excellent. Breakfast was delicious. The portions were so large I could barely finish everything. There's of course a full English, but also some other options like omelets and cereals. Don't miss the homemade jams! They also offer a packed lunch for £7 which I highly recommend. I don't know where they got that ham for the sandwich, but it was some of the best I've had in ages. The lunch came with sandwich, quiche, crisps, cake, and water - all in an insulated bag. For my fellow Americans, you may see some reviews or house rules mention that the Emsley doesn't allow "all male or all female" parties. In Britain, that refers to bachelor/bachelorette parties. It doesn't refer to same-sex couples, which are gladly welcomed at the Emsely. I thought I'd point that out because that terminology might be confusing to some travelers.

This was the first bed & breakfast I've ever stayed in and it spoiled me for any others, I think!…read moreThe people who run it were so kind & helpful! They gave us tips for where to go in the city and how to get there. I would highly recommend everyone to stay there!

Lovely Breakfast. cosy Breakfast room allowing all the guests to chat... How nice.. Usually people ignore me. Fantastic Free Wi-Fi. Toiletories. Towels. The rooms were equipped with trouser press. Hair Dryer. Tea / Coffee. Nice Cookies... Fantastic ... I have a pet hate for non en-suite hotel rooms. The room in the Central Guest house I was in was not En-suite, I had to go across the hallway to a shower room, which at first made me squirm. It was exclusive to me. Which was a relief. The point I want to make is. Don't be put off by a non en-suite room. Its not as bad as it seems. It was a pain to run across the hallway in the middle of the night, desperate for No1 & No2. Just made it.. Reminded me of a movie I watched with Jodi Foster. Having to lock one room to run across the hallway to open the other. (Yes I had to lock my room and unlock the loo every time). (In the end I just left the loo door open.) It was exciting and scary..... I was worried in case I bumped into anyone lurking in the shadows. Sadly no lurkers ! ( What a shame. I was kind of looking forward to some midnight Mania). On the whole. I enjoyed my stay and would do it again. Recommend this Guest House. The owners are a great source of conversation, Very friendly. Meet and Greet was above any 5* hotels I have stayed with... Great Job Marlene & Mike.

Great room with accommodations for our 9 year old twins. Lovely garden area. The staff was excellent and accommodating. And of course, a wonderful breakfast. Now I have to learn to cry tomatoes properly and make English baked beans. Highly recommend. And we will be back.

Location - well located about 10 mins out of the city centre, be warned a taxi from the train station costs you a tenner. Buses run right past, you can get and 8 or a 9 that drop you pretty much at the door. It's in a good area, turn right to head into the town and left to head up to a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs. The area is really nice and you feel safe walking along. It's walking distance from the 2 main hospitals. The owner/staff - absolutely delightful, nothing was too much trouble at all. They were so helpful. You can pay in advance online too. They respond quickly to email enquiries and are just lovely to deal, with. The room- I was staying in a double room to the side of the house. It was super quiet and although it wasn't huge (what do you need a huuuuge room for anyway you only sleep,in it) it was just lovely, newly decorated and furnished with a flat screen telly that has access to sky movies!! As well as lots of other channels. The en suite was clean and the shower didn't overflow when I used it. The water flow wasn't amazing but it still did the job. There were little shampoos and shower gels which were a godsend as I'd forgotten mine. You get complimentary water and borders biscuits in your room as we'll as the usual tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. oh and the hair dryer was a proper one, I didn't have to hold a button to keep it on. The breakfast (the important bit) - I often avoid eggs unless I know they are free range, these were from a local farm and cooked how I wanted. The sausages are from a local butcher and were delicious. The dining room has an almost cafe like vibe to it. Neutrally decorated with the breakfast menu on a big blackboard on the wall and you can choose what you like. You get a decent sized pot of tea or fresh filter coffee as well as some fresh fruit, croissants and cereal etc. I have recommended this b&b to my work and will definitely stay again, I had a brilliant nights sleep on the super comfy bed
