Been driving pass this restaurant for many times, they are always busy. Got a chance recently to have dinner there and the 2 of us was lucky to get a table.
This restaurant is very cute with lovely decoration. I especially love the NUKI's sign and white brick wall.
I wanted Thai Iced Tea, but they had no ice. So, they couldn't offer that. We ordered pad Thai, green curry tofu, soft shell crab with black pepper and coconut rice.
The restaurant was packed before we realised. First came pad Thai, it looked a bit different from what I used to have (usually it is a bit pinkish in colour). Taste wise, it was ok, a bit sweet. It didn't have a lot of flavours. I asked for some chilli sauce, the waitress came back and gave me a little bit of Chiu Chow chilli oil. Hmmm... I wasn't excepting that in a Thai restaurant.
Then the soft shell crab and green curry came. I had really high hope on the crab, cos' I didn't have it for a while and black pepper always a good match. I had one small piece, I'd like it to be a bit more peppery and it was way too salty. After that I was going to have another piece, but wait, where was the crab? The both of us had a small tiny piece each, and that was it, £8! All it had left was a few pieces of onion and bell pepper. It was a big let down...
And the green curry tofu, basically it was green curry paste mixed with water, put a few pieces of bamboo shoot, bell pepper, cucumber and tofu. I didn't mind the homemade style, but it was just a bit too basic.
I really had high hope for this local Thai restaurant and hoped it could be our weekly eating out destination. However, I have to stick to my rule: Asian restaurants without Asian customers, not a good sign.
PS: It only takes one loud table to make the whole restaurant unbearably noisey. read more
