I had a brisket pie that was essentially upscale Shepherds Pie, which is my favorite thing. The brisket was House-smoked and really great, and they used turnips along with potatoes for the mash. The veggies were clearly farm local and fresh...not a canned veggie in sight!! I was a little disappointed in the tap list. They took up several handles with marginal beers from outside the U.K., and I had hoped for more local flair. That said, they did have TWO locals on draft, and both were excellent...I just wish there had been more. All in all, I'll certainly be back the next time in near Heathrow and want upscale pub food.

The service I received was not only slow but felt discriminatory and exclusionary. The fact that other guests were attended to promptly while I was ignored made me feel singled out and unwelcome. While the atmosphere and fireplace are nice, the way I was treated made it impossible for me to enjoy the experience. Based on my experience, I would not recommend eating here if you are a person of color, as the treatment I received was unacceptable and gave me serious concerns about the establishment's approach to hospitality and inclusivity. The fish was beautifully presented over a bed of chips, and also served with some peas. The peas were decadent: the mint gave it a nice touch. Son loved and secured his burger. The chicken nuggets were also tasty and crunchy. The Sunday roast exceeded our expectations. Plenty hoe gravy and fresh horseradish served on the side. The carrots and another white vegetable I'm not familiar with, we're nicely cooked. The roast was so tasty, tender, and juicy. It made me sad that we could only have this meal once during our trip. We enjoyed our meal with a nice IPA (neck oil) and cider (Cornish orchards) . The mixture of carbs and alcohol gave me enough relaxation to make it home and take the nicest siesta I've had in a while. There are three rooms, all similar in vibe and furnishings. They've got a covered outdoor area in the alley beside the pub. There's no greenery, just picnic benches, but they run a barbeque out there in the summer. I've come to this pub on my own a couple of times when I'm been free during weekdays: it's a good place to have a drink and read a book, do a bit of work, or people-watch passers-by on the Broadway during the day. On weekend evenings a DJ spins up in the front room, and the place can get very busy at those times.
