Once they moved, it seems as if some of the charm had left---along with the guarantee that the food would be perfect. I have had some absolutely amazing food here. But, lately, it's been passable. I tried the burrito today. Not a burrito guy but wanted something different. It was standard burrito fair. Some beans. Some rice. Some meat. Some sauce. It was good. But it was a burrito. Not hard to do an okay burrito. The tostada is where I was hoping for the usual greatness of this restaurant. I took a bite. The tostada seemed slightly overcooked. That's okay. I can deal with it. It slightly altered the taste, but okay. The rest of it was pretty tasty. Until....bad carnitas. I mean...bad carnitas. One bite was 100% fat. I know they saw it when they put it on. Some like that, I don't. And then...some bites that were not chewable - or digestible. Then another bad bite. Tostados are not too big. So there are only so many bites. This one made me never want to try carnitas there again. It's too bad. The people there are always nice. The food used to be great. Now. Not so much.

Is it a Virgina thing to not turn on ac during summer or why are all restaurant always hot to the point you're passing out? Water is also served without ice and as it is it's already hot in there. Once our waitress came by she wasn't very attentive. Drinks were not great. I should've stuck with a coke or something. Food- I got the tacos al pastor. NGL for being up North I was impressed by the flavor. Unfortunately, once the tacos made it to the table it was hard to even eat them since the tortilla were all soggy. The meat shouldn't have that much juice if it's really cooked on a trompo but ‍. Then to add salsa, slaw and piña on top of that? Again the tortilla were soggy and falling apart. Would I recommend this place? No not really

The waitress was sweet and patient assisting us with questions before we ordered. I got a Cafecito and a guava Pastelito to start. The cafecito was bold and sweet and the Pastelito was super flaky. We also tried the chicken empanadas which were easily some of the best we had. We ended up making a second order to go. We also ordered the El Nacional which had scrambled eggs with chorizo, avocado, sweet plantains, refried beans, pickled onions and bread with crema and cojita. Everything was delicious including their tropical Palmer which had hibiscus tea and homemade limeade. I will definitely be visiting again!!!

I did the mojito fresa and my friend did their 12 oz. jalapeño margarita. For food, I did the arroz con pollo without the cheese and mushrooms. It was delicious and perfect portion size. My friend tried one of their entrees, I don't remember the name but started with an F. It looked like 2 long burritos with beef, vegetables and came with rice. Fun restaurant, and casual which is nice. Our food took awhile to come out but they were busy too. Overall very yummy!

They start you off with complimentary fish ceviche and tortilla chips, which was a nice touch. The guacamole with fried pork belly was good, although it could have used a little more seasoning. We ordered the Grill Texana, and this was the biggest disappointment. The steak was a poor cut, not very tender, and lacked flavor. It definitely needed more salt and seasoning. The chicken was very dry, and the shrimp were also lacking flavor. Overall, the entire dish was underwhelming. The ceviche we ordered was just okay and not particularly memorable. The carne asada tacos were also just average. The margarita was fine but nothing special. Overall, we were disappointed with the food. The restaurant looks inviting, and the photos certainly create high expectations, but unfortunately, the flavors and execution of the dishes we tried did not meet them.

It really needs more attention as one of the best fast casual Mexican places in cville. No frills, just good cheap Mexican food. I've had a few things from here but typically find the enchiladas and burritos are my favorite. Their rice and beans are spectacular and seasoned better than anywhere else in cville and have some kick to them. The chips and salsa are similarly great. I ordered horchata as well and got a HUGE cup and it was delicious. I haven't had their tacos, but as there are plenty of amazing taco trucks in cville that I would probably just come to el puerto for non-taco offerings. Guadalajara was my childhood go-to for Mexican and it saddens me that it's become completely overpriced with small portions and bland undercooked food. El puerto on the other hand has quietly continued excellent service, food quality and prices for years on end. I will pick el puerto over guad any day of the week!

It has an extreme upscale Mexican feel which for me is new. Truly stunning pieces of decoration. The drinks are creative and the "vessels" they're served in are truly unique. I saw one table that got shot delivered in an airplane. The service here was good. Not incredibly great. The man who helped us was attentive and tried his best to serve us. But felt like there was quite a bit of pressure on him to get the orders right. And things that would seem simple became more complex. I feel as though the menu should help guide the customer a bit more on how to place orders. For example margaritas are listed but doesn't tell you that you need to select size, rocks, slush, rim type, and fruit selection. It was just overall confusing and could be felt by our waiter. The food is good. On par with much of its competitors in the area. It tastes fresh and feels like they have a bevy of quality options. The largest glaring problem with this restaurant is the price point. Unbelievably expensive. It has the price point of high end establishment but the quality just does not match what you get. It almost feels like they had to jack up the prices to cover the costs of the decor in this place. I would go again but quite honestly I don't know if I'd be willing to pay that price twice. Go at your own discretion.
