I literally passed by this museum on my way to the botanical gardens several days ago. Noting the…read morelimited hours I slightly rearranged my schedule to make the Tuesday hours work. I was expecting a small museum that would take 30 minutes max to go through. Thankfully I was so wrong. Before even opening the door of the museum I was greeted by one of the docents who was lovely throughout the tour. The entire tour lasted about 70 minutes and was fascinating. She explained the origins of the hospital and detailed history of the nursing staff who truly started the practice of nursing, as directed and sent by Florence Nightingale. While I was vaguely aware of the Nightingale connection I was surprised to find so many items that were either owned by Nightingale or given to the nurses from Florence Nightingale. With all the objects of the museum donated I think they have a truly remarkable collection, including old medical objects, photos of nursing staff, training uniforms, chemist set, to go bag of pharmaceuticals (for visiting rural areas), and medals received for service in the Crimea War. In general, I think it helps to have a medical background in order to understand how great this collection is and to be able to easily compare the collection to current medical practice. That being said, the docents ask prior to the tour if you have any medical knowledge. The only area of the museum that I didn't enjoy was part of the new wing and was two rooms of medical specimens, including the preserved fetus from an abortion. There were many different cancers (breast, ovarian, colorectal) also on display. I think generally people should be warned prior to going into those rooms. $5 Admission per person, cash only Photos are ok, no flash Will be asked to leave larger items (camera bags, backpacks) in the office Very limited hours! In the EQ's case it is largely, I suspect, because it's not on a train line and ain't easy to get to by public transport. But hey, there's a lot of fun stuff going down, from The Comedy Store to Friday Night Football to gigs at The Hordern and The Hi-Fi to The Ashes to disco bowling at Strike to farmers markets to Cirque du Soleil to Hoyts movies to wow there really is a lot of stuff when you list it out. It's always a destination for me, though - as in, I go there to see something specific that I've bought tickets to, rather than just to hang out or see what's happening. The owner stayed with us for a bit and he told us some great stories about their cats.. He really loves them a lot! Anyway our experience was really relaxing and enjoyable.. I wanted to see a live cricket game while visiting Australia and the opportunity finally came up on…read moremy last night in Sydney. Looking at different options to get to the stadium, I used the public transport from outside my hotel in Circilar Quay to Moore Park right next to the stadium. Very easy to navigate and so many guides on the platforms willing to help. Each trip was $4.60. Game was at 7:10 but I arrived early to have drinks and dinner at a local bar. I got to the stadium about an hour before the game, lot's of activities going on outside the gates. From games for kids, face painting, sitting on Santa's lap and KFC buckets to wear on your head. Apparently this is something fans do here, had to try it. I purchased a ticket on site, told them my first game wanted a seat close enough to see the action... for $20 i had a great seat in the upper bill o'reilly section. I sat with complete strangers but in no time we were all talking and cheering on the local team- the Sydney Sixers. Still learning the rules of the game but it was still a lot of fun. I had some beers during the game, loved that right behind us was a concession stand. A few drink and food options but glad I ate before the game. The sixers ended up losing to the Brisbane Heat by 48 runs.

Its terrible when the event is over and can take more than an hour to leave the car park. - Keep your drink holder. They charge for them! - Grab a few drinks before you show up. The drinks are expensive and most areas only sell mid strength beer. - Grab a feed before you show up, food can be expensive or depending on the event, bring your own.
