I went on opening night. This place will obviously be compared to Arcade Club in Bury and whilst they are obviously catering to a different market, NQ64 fails to be any kind of compelling alternative for me.
The game selection isn't great, with limited space the curation of games needs to be spot on and it really isn't. Old, end-of-the-pier cabinets with semi broken bat-top joysticks make playing StreetFighter a chore. Nobody in their right mind should be playing Tony Hawks 1 on the PS1 (on a blurry LCD) unless they are a masochist. The decor is a mix between the Footclans Lair and the set of Why Don't You, all bad graffiti and UV lighting. Some machines refused to take tokens, and the token set-up itself feels stingy.
The general attention to detail is lacking, it doesn't feel like a labour of love in the way Arcade Club clearly is. Finally: The cocktails are utterly appalling and taste like something improvised in a student halls after a night of heavy drinking.
