I had been looking forward to visiting Lost in Tokyo for a while for a couple of reasons, first of all was because of its style and second was because I had seen their baby godzilla cocktail (complete with toy dinosaur) and I had to try it. Lost in Tokyo is underground, mostly, so I had no idea how big it was going to be inside. Once I entered my first impressions were that it was smaller than I expected but I liked it, I liked the seating booths and like the wall art in particular. The drinks menu had quite a few Japanese whiskies, as you might expect, but did not have a huge selection of cocktails compared to some of the other bars in the area. This was not a bad thing, the cocktails that they did were all interesting and most of them were 2 for £10 as we were there before 11pm, so that is pretty reasonable. I went straight for the baby godzilla as my first cocktail and it did not disappoint, it was green to the point of looking radioactive, it was presented in beaker and yes it did come with a toy dinosaur (yes I know it is a little gimmicky but I am really just a big kid so I was happy)... most importantly it tasted great. I also tried the Ryu vs Ken, this tasted incredibly unusual and I still haven't figured out if I loved this one or hated it.

Yep - I really like what they've done with this place! Ok so the Japanese theme is minimal in terms of it still being an underground basement bar with a few lanterns and booths (plus a good selection of Japanese whiskeys) but it really does work. The staff were friendly and up for a chat, the music was eclectic and spot on (80's to up to date rockers and everything in between) and the beer selection was a jump up in terms of some other bars in the area that just offer the boring Longboard range. I really enjoyed the Flying dog session ale, I'll definitely be back to explore more in depth soon!

We popped inside this subterranean bar for a couple of quick drinks one Monday evening - their 2 for £10 cocktails offer was the bait that hooked us in. Ordinarily, I'm not really that much of a cocktail drinker but I have one every now and again. I think the voice inside me that says "You could have bought a pint and a half of beer for that one drink, you know?" keeps me mostly on the ales. I'm a relatively fast drinker too so they never last long enough! The bar is the newest venture from the owners of Guilty by Association, Damson, and Liquorice, with the concept deep rooted in Far Eastern travel, whiskies and sake rice wines. They don't serve food here. Hanging paper lanterns, wooden screens, leather booths and fluorescent lighting make for an interesting drinking space. It felt a tad unoccupied whilst we were there but I dare say it'd be far busier at the latter end of the working week and at weekends. My cocktails were ok but the first one, Gin & Yang, was served in what looked to be an IV bag - it was actually more like a clear Capri-Sun and I felt was too gimmicky (not to mention wasteful). The Harajuku Girl was much more to my taste as a gin fan. The Red Dragon beer, their house lager, is £3.70 a pint; with measures of Japanese whisky priced between £4 and £20. For fans of the Far East, this place would satisfy most people - if I came back I'd probably stick to Asahi beer.

I popped into Lost in Tokyo with other Yelpers before an event having heard some good things about this (relatively) new Kid on the block. The cocktails were on offer at 2 for £10 which is great if you want to buddy up with a friend. I believe this is most week nights before 9pm! Making it an excellent choice for an after work watering hole. I ordered the Hirijuku Girl - a gin and elderflower based cocktail with cucumber. Light and refreshing, it hit the spot after a long day at work!

Came here with some other Yelpers before an event. Never been here before - it had only opened about a couple months before. I had heard about the 2 cocktails for £10 offer. Was happy to see its all cocktails included in the offer. I do like a cocktail and more often than not go for a rum based one. I went for the: Baby Godzilla. Came with a mini "Godzilla" - looked like a velociraptor. Tasted good, pretty sweet. I also had the Sassy Bitch which was not bad. I also noticed that sold Asahi beer on top (I think?? - can someone confirm) which is good. One of my fav beers. Its a Japanese theme with the decor - probably could have guessed with the name of the place :) I like anything Japanese! Ideally the place would have been a little bit brighter. I know about creating an atmosphere but maybe in the "booth" areas if it was a bit brighter. Just being a bit picky! Overall, nice place. Friendly staff.

The cocktails here are good, also shockingly they were 2 for £10 until 11pm.

Hello new favourite NQ bar!…read more Popped here for a few drinks on Weds night and have to say I was really impressed - what a hidden gem and great new addition to the Northern Quarter. Housed in the Hatters Hostel basement, you're talking about a cavernous speakeasy style bar that's been nautically/fashionably revamped without trying too hard, which is refreshing. It's similar to the Gas Lamp in decor but with a grittier edge that makes it seem pretty relaxed and a place for any time of the day. A great selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles, classic video games on free play in the back and a very cool special cinema (the Kino room) showing classic movies each night (Fear and Loathing was on when I came in) for patrons. Friendly staff, beer slightly cheaper than neighbouring bars and because it's tucked away maybe a haven from some of the 'nobbier' elements making the NQ a shadow of it's former self on a weekend evening. Can't wait to go back! (Fast free wifi too - with no need for a password - sweet!)

Tip: If you didn't know this place was a bar you'd walk right by it without noticing a thing; that's what I did for two months before I read about it and decided to go in and check it out. Boy, am I glad I did! The venue is pretty small; it looks and feels like it was whisked directly here from NYC and dropped smack-dab into the middle of Manchester. I've seen several other places that tried to pull off this whole pawnshop vibe, but they all didn't quite cut it. I'm very pleased to note that Dusk til Pawn has got the look and feel totally nailed :-) There's a juke box that plays for free; its chock full of awesome 1980s music; hearing it playing just augments the retro-charm of this place - it's hard not to feel like you're in the Bowery or the Lower East Side of New York. The first time I came here it was to check-out the motif of this very cool little place, but after I ordered my first drink, I knew I had to come back frequently - the cocktails taste amazing, and they're strong enough to kick like a mule! There's no question in my mind that on my next trip to Manchester, I'll come back here for sure :-)

Cocktails were universally excellent - I adored the Lemon Meringue Pie which came with a toasted topping, the Vesper was as lethal as it was smooth, the Aviatrix came with a violet "fog" which was one of the best drink gimmicks I've ever come across and the remaining drinks we had featuring mint and campari (from the first page...I can't remember their names) were also brilliant. Prices range from about £6 - 8 which is basically as good as it gets for cocktails of this quality. Music was good with the DJ playing a range from jazz to 90s R&B. Service was a bit slow at times and they totally messed up the bill but the servers were all extremely nice and friendly, it's not a snooty place at all. Highly recommended.

The cocktails are great and the bar staff are always willing to help out with flavours. I fell in love with the Sazerac because of this place! They have a black and white movie on a wall from a projector and great music all the time with the comfiest of sofas to relax in with a drink. Fitzgerald on a Thursday has 2 cocktails for £10 and live music which ranges from a Ceilidh to R 'n' B Jazz. Just a fantastic mix and such an easy going atmosphere that I have literally spent hours in. I hired the place out for a cocktail making class for a birthday gift for a friend and it was just amazing fun. We had three cocktails (that we got to choose based on the birthday girl's favourites) and we all got to go behind the bar to make them (8 of us taking turns) but best of all it was only around £30 a head...for the whole place to ourselves! I've been more times than I can count but now I'm in Edinburgh I do miss the place!

The portions are on the smaller side for the price, which is about £30 per person for a meal of 3-4 dishes. The atmosphere is on the lively bougie side, they had a DJ for a while as well. I liked the decor and how vibes overall. The staff were friendly and polite but service was quite slow as it took ages to get the waiters attention to order. The one thing that disappointed me was the lack of sake ok the menu as they seemed to be a Japanese tapas bar, so sake seems like an obvious option. They only have whiskey, beer, wine and cocktails though. Also they only accept card, no cash and also American Express which I found out when I tried.. Overall good food, chic atmosphere and lively, but quite pricey, no sake and not so efficient service.

This was 4 small plates for just £15. Very good value! There are 4 different sections with 3 different items in each - since there was 4 of us, we tried every item - plus duplicates of what sounds the best. Depending what you get, you won't leave hungry. But it depends - the ribs are more filling than e.g. the dim sum selection. My fav from the Summer Set Menu were the ribs, and the mackerel donburi I think. Duck and watermelon salad was good even though I don't like watermelon! Fish collars were yummy too! So much of it was good! We also got dessert which was not included in the set menu - costs £6 each dessert. My rating has gone up to 5 stars from 4 because every time I have been, the food is almost spot on. Would recommend it to anyone. Service is friendly too.
