So, this being Austria, there are great coffee houses everywhere. If you can't find a good one…read moreyou're not looking. Kaffee Glockenspiel is directly on the Hauptplatz and right next to the hotel we were staying in. It's good but not great, if you walk a few blocks there are better cafes. That being said, the cafe has been there forever and the coffee and pastries are great but expensive. We met up with my mom's friends and while they had coffee I had to have a melange and a chocolate apricot torte. It was delicious but pastries are delicious everywhere in Linz. While the space is historic and the wait staff was pleasant I would probably find a less touristy location for my melange and pastry.

Great little gem in the old part of downtown Linz. Great…read morecoffee, and I'm very picky when it comes to that, and always a great selection of yummy cakes. The staff is super nice too. Haven't tried their soups/stews yet, but if everything else is an indication, it's gonna be great. What makes this place special is that it's a mix between cafe and lounge. So you can not only get coffee, tea or hot cocoa, but they also have a great selection of wines and beer. Free wifi is a plus! Only downside is that they open pretty late in the day (noon/2pm) and don't accept credit cards

From the street, you can only see the sign for Walker. Go into the breezeway, through the first…read moredoor, and turn left up the stairs. You'll find yourself in the bar smoking area, and to the left is the non-smoking seating area. Seat yourself, and a server will find you. PRO: food quality (and price) We'll start with the food since that's the highlight. There are a good number of burger selections and combinations. I had the cheeseburger with shinken (ham) and ei (fried egg), which was great. All burgers come with mayonnaise, salat (lettuce), tomatoes, and a bit of mais (corn). The corn was a nice, uniquely non-American addition. And them shinken was a nice adaptation to bacon, which I'm accustomed to. The burger meat is good too. I've had burgers at some other restaurants in Linz that make me wonder if the patties are pre-formed and frozen. The ones from Walker are juicy, tender, and seem fresh and hand-formed. If you're used to American restaurants that serve you a burger with full fixings and a side, be warned. Here, a burger is a burger. The fully dressed burgers comes out on a saucer-sized plate. No extra sides, fries are à la carte, no utensils, no napkins. CON: service Don't expect too much regarding service. I was there on a Sunday afternoon, and there were only two servers for the whole restaurant/bar (three distinct rooms or sections). Once we sat down, it took quite a while (~10-15 minutes) before our server came over to acknowledge us or take our order. That said, once our orders were placed, the food came out relatively quickly.
