I'm on a mission - to find Spain's best churros, even if it kills me (or causes lots of deep-fried…read moredough to coagulate in my arteries). I think I've struck gold (deep-fried, crispy gold, that is!) at Bonilla. When I've stayed out a wee bit too late and am physically and mentally dragging, I'll stop by for some churros y chocolate. The churros, freshly made in the morning, are crispy with a perfectly fried exterior, and covered in an ample amount of sugar. The interior is slightly chewy and absorbs lots of chocolate - no soggy, undercooked churros here! Galicia has some of the richest, best hot chocolate that I have tasted in Spain thus far. The chocolate at Bonilla is smooth, creamy, and rich. It was much lighter and milkier than I prefer, but of the perfect viscosity for dipping the churros. Because Bonilla is very close to Plaza Principe, the prices are a little steep (2.50 for the chocolate and 4 small churros for 1 euro). It's money well-spent, so no complaining from me. The cafe solo is also perfect for days when I don't feel the need to overindulge (e.g., my jeans are getting tight).

They had quite a few options for people who can't eat gluten as well, like yogurt with muesli and gluten free bread with multiple spread options. I ordered the yogurt, gluten free bread with hummus and olive spread, café con leche, and a fresh squeezed juice with pineapple, strawberry, apple, lemon, and celery. The almost 5 euro glass consisting of a mix of fruit juices - which I assumed, for that price, would be fresh - tasted like it was from concentrate, poured from a supermarket carton. And the tostada (toasted bread with toppings) was merely okay but nothing to write home about. My friend ordered a supergreen smoothie which she said was overly acidic. Maybe when their menu isn't limited, I'll try again, and order something different.

Relatively pleasant Starbucks within the El Corte Ingles department store. I tried a slice of lemon cake, it looked like the perfect accompaniment to my latte. It was a bit dry, and didn't taste like it was fresh today. Nice clean toilets which don't require a silly code to get in. There's a good amount of power sockets and USB outlets.
