The first session which we had to cut short due to a migraine
    Cynthia T.

Where do I even start? I guess the beginning - May 2022 when I first contacted Nina for an appointment. How do you know an artist is good? She didn't have availability until February 2023. After perusing her instagram (both the shop and her artist account), I decided she was *the one* to do the Sunflower piece I wanted to honor my grandma (who at the time of writing this review, is 97!). I gave her the details and texted her inspiration throughout the year. A few days before the appointment she sent me a reminder text and I was SO. EXCITED. Especially because my tax refund deposited the day before, LOL! I took the day off from work, dropped my dog off at doggy day care and went in for my tattoo. First off, the shop is super cute. The lighting is nice, not too dark or too bright. Nina's area was clean but also decorated with lots of personality which gave us lots to talk about with her and her apprentice sitting in. I started crying when I saw the design. It was so beautiful! She easily added my grandmother's handwriting "con mucho cariño", and after a little prep, we began. Then, the absolute worst thing happened. I got a migraine. The absolute worst migraine I ever had in recent memory. I was so heartbroken because the pain was worse than the tattoo. Nina and her apprentice gave me water and a shot of tequila to try to help, but nothing worked. After about 4 hours, I had to throw in the towel. She got about 75% through with the tattoo at that point, and scheduled the last hour or so a month out. A month later, I came back and Nina finished my piece. I even came prepared with migraine medicine but didn't need it haha. The finished piece is everything I wanted and more. The sunflower looks so realistic, the lines are sharp and crisp, the colors bright. Nostalgic Ink is definitely going to be my go-to shop moving forward. Everyone I met there was super friendly, the shop is clean, the work is stunning. The best part? My grandma loves my tattoo!

My black ink tattoo of a wine key with stippling that took an hour to do overall, freshly done.

I got my tattoo from Nina, the shop owner. This was my very first tattoo and I booked the appointment in September for a date in June. I had no problem waiting so I could build up courage over the passing months. I was nervous about the whole process, but Nina was just so wonderful. My appointment with her was early in the morning so it was just the two of us and one other artist in the building while I was there. They both made me feel so relaxed. They were very easy to talk to and they were fun to be around. The tattoo was done before I even knew it because I just enjoyed their company so much. It felt easy and the pain was not as bad as I thought it would be. And the best part is that she made the tattoo look EXACTLY what I was wanting. Its probably fairly simple since it only took an hour, but I absolutely love the way the tattoo turned out. At the end of the appointment, she answered all the questions I had about taking care of the tattoo, especially since its summer now. I would absolutely go back to Nina as a regular artist for me. She rocks!

We loved our experience with Gladys and the whole crew at Nostalgic Ink! Knowing that we'd be driving through San Antonio during our road trip from Tampa to San Diego, we looked up top tattoo artists in San Antonio. Nina, Nostalgic's owner popped up and after checking out her work, we knew this was the place! We'd decided on what we wanted but wanted it to be custom. So we called to see if Nina could squeeze us in. Kyle, another artist at the shop, answered and said that Nina was booked but that he'd talk to Gladys to see if she could fit us in. After checking out Gladys' work on Instagram, we knew we'd love her style too! Gladys was so awesome every step of the way. She texted me to confirm our appointment. And after I sent her some examples of what she wanted, she spent the next few hours drawing her version. About 30 minutes before our appointment she sent us her concepts. Perfection! I should also say that these were my husband and my first tattoos in 20 years. There was a lot of pressure on everyone to make them perfect. Gladys, Kyle, Len and everyone we met at the shop were great. Gladys was so patient as we decided where we wanted them, exactly how high, size etc. And she had a "light touch" as apparently everyone else says about her, making it pretty painless. We all had a great conversation and felt like we couldn't have asked for a better experience for getting something so permanent based on a pretty spontaneous decision. Whenever we're in San Antonio, we'll have to pop back in to see Gladys and add to our newly started tattoo collection!

First. Of. All. ...this shop is cute AF. I've been to a lot of shops, each unique in their presence- but this one was especially appealing and inviting. The lobby is spacious and comfortable, with its big black couches and it's fancy chandelier. I love gothic decor, so immediately felt welcome. I was greeted by multiple friendly faces upon entering, which was a really nice alternative to some of the other shops I've been in, where they don't even raise a brow to the sound of the bell on the door ringing when you come in. I had an appt with Gladys, and was a little late, because- life- and she was extra understanding and didn't sweat it in the least. Phew. I immediately filled out the usual consent paperwork and such, scanned my ID, yadda yadda, and within 10 minutes of getting there, was back at Gladys's station, ready to get it done. This appointment was just for re working some cherries that I had done on the sides of my neck wayyy back when, by another artist in Washington state, 16 years ago. Glady was happy to freshen them up for me. I liked how the work stations gave complete privacy. Some shops have an open floor plan, but I REALLY liked how I could be laying on the table in my skirt, errrrything hanging out, flashing only the Marilyn Monroe picture hanging on the wall, rather than other human beings. Gladys is light handed. Like, really light handed. I had gone in dreading the pain I would feel- I meant to bring lidocaine patches (you shush!), but I forgot them- but when she started I had to ask her multiple times if she was even actually breaking the skin because I didn't feel anything hahaha. YASSSS. Thank god for that. And now we're gonna talk about the bathroom. Cause I always review tattoo shop bathrooms. I would almost rather JUST review the bathroom, and not the shop, haha. You know you're in a good shop when they've put a lot of effort into making the shitter look good. ...so the bathroom at Nostalgic Ink had an octopus toilet paper roll holder, a sign reminding you that if you take a dump everyone will hear you, a demon baby on the toilet tank, and a big gnarly grim reaper fella to stare you down while you pee. And yellow painted foot prints on the floor so you know where to put your feet while you're sitting on the throne. ALSO, they had that fancy ass poo-pouri spray, in case you decided to ignore the warning sign on the wall about everyone hearing you, and decided to go ahead and take your chances anyways (which I didn't hahah). Oh. And the bathroom was clean and they had fancy soap and stuff. I'm in love with how my cherries turned out. And I can't waif to go back and see Miss Gladys for more work ASAP. Go here. You'll love it.

Gladys custom mandala piece for me
    Nicole B.

From the very start Gladys was super friendly to work with. I sent her what I was thinking and when I came in she had a beautiful custom piece ready for me. After just a couple tweak we were on our way to this stunning tattoo. Her line work is stunning and the conversation made the time fly by. She is such a kind soul and could not recommend her enough, super light hand as well...just all around 10/10!!

I've been going to Nostalgic Ink for over a year now. Nina has been working on my sleeve. It's taken time and patience but the end results, still have one more session, are unbelievable! I highly recommend Nina and the artists at Nostalgic Ink for any type of tattoo.

Aaaaaaamazing AMAZING. Went here to get my tattoo that I have been wanting done for forever. I'm from California and found this place on yelp. Best decision ever. I can't remember his name to save my life but he tatted me on 4/20/19. Thank you soooo much. Y'all are amazing.

My 72 yr old aunt getting her 1st tattoo!
    Pamela G.

As a woman with many tattoos, I am very picky about my body art. When I choose Nostalgic ink it was based on Yelp reviews (especially since I am not from San Antonio). The reviews and high ratings were very accurate. Len did some great work on both me and my 72 yr old aunt (her first; and yes, I did say 72...lol). Customer service really matters to them as they acknowledge this is permanent and they want to know it is something you will really be happy with for years to come. The shop is reall clean and they dispose of all the needles & ink cups after each session. They also clean and wipe down the chairs/sitting table after each session. Honestly, the shop was really clean and comfortable. Overall, it was pretty quick for two ppl and the work was fantastic. I plan to go back and have some more work done when I visit San Antonio. The prices are not too crazy either. One thing I would caution is that Yelp has Nostalgic Ink listed with a "$25 off if you spend $100" and that is falsely advertised (at least that is what I was told). Len said he was insure who put that special there, but it was not factual. There isvan artist the gives out discount cards (or coins - I can't remember which). But the price was reasonable, so it was nothing to push for.

Gladys did an amazing job on my tattoo. I am so happy with it. It's exact what I was looking for. She was literally so sweet and I will definitely be back again for her specifically. We were walk-ins on a Tuesday evening and didn't have to wait long at all. She went over the equipment they use and even showed us the expiration dates of the needles and such they were using. Definitely recommend this shop. I know we will be back

I have gotten three pieces here now! Len has always done a great job! The place is clean, neat and nice. I have never had any problems with Nostalgic Ink. Fair and honest prices for the great work you get! If I wasn't moving overseas, I'd always go back to Len every time!

Set up an appointment with Steven (being all the way from Dallas). He was super professional and kind via phone and especially in person. I went with my sisters and mother to get matching tattoos. He listened to what we wanted, provided multiple sketches and feedback. His shop was very well kept and organized. He went over the tattooing process for us and explained everything he was using and what it was for. It was a very relaxed environment and he was so patient with my sister who was getting tattooed for the first time. On top of all that his work is AMAZING!!! he paid so much attention to detail and was so much fun to talk to. Definitely going back to get more of his work in the future.

I was brought back to the piercing studio around 6:30ish. I absolutely LOVE how the facility is by appointment only, and that they require you to wash your hands immediately upon coming in. Because it's appointment only, the lobby area was clear and there wasn't really anyone out there, which I really liked. The music wasn't loud either and it was enjoyable. The facility was extremely clean. Frankie was a gem. I was getting re-pierced and I was very nervous and anxious, and her vibes helped the nerves a ton. I let her know that I have a tendency to get swollen pretty quickly and more than the usual person, and she made sure to give me a longer post to account for additional swelling. Yes, it's a bit more pricier than your typical piercing studio BUT it's worth it and an investment; good work isn't cheap, cheap work isn't good. Their selection of jewelry is again, expensive but absolutely beautiful and high quality. I wish I would've gotten all my piercings done by Frankie! I can't wait to come back and see her for the next one. Thank you Frankie!

Let me explain: I came into Onyx Tattoo in New Braunfels looking for my son who waited until he was 18 to get a tattoo. As a parent this made me proud bc so many youths today don't have the patience to wait. I thought it would be a good experience for him and I to get one together. So after much research I landed on Onyx Tattoo. I met with two different artists, Ray and the owner, Jay. I want to emphasize the word ARTIST. Because that is exactly what they are. I gave them each an idea for a Christian project for my son and one for myself. I found some examples online and they said, great, I got an idea of what you want, I'll make it my own. That's exactly what they did. They each spent hours drawing and designing a one of a kind tattoo that blew our expectations away. When we arrived at our appointment they were excited to see us, they greeted us in a very friendly and professional manner, and the shop is so clean and organized. You felt like you were in an artist studio that had been meticulously sanitized. Each of our tattoos took the entire day to complete. During the experience, there was great conversation, some laughs, and just felt like this is the place I want to get work done in the future. I'm already planning on fixing/finishing another piece that another tattoo artist started but never completed years before. As I have gotten older, I've grown more picky about tattoos and what they mean. In my opinion, anyone in the Austin, San Antonio or New Braunfels market should come to this studio. You will find some of the nicest artists who are genuine people who love what they do. There is no better studio around. The work Jay and Ray did for my son and I was nothing short of fabulous. I want to give a shoutout to Vivo and the other artist there as well. I would trust either of them to do work for me as well. Best experience EVER! Remember folks, cheap tattoos aren't good, and good tattoos aren't cheap. However, I would say that their value is actually underrated. These same tattoos would have cost more in comparison to S. Congress in Austin. I got an incredible value and an amazing piece of art to remind me always of my faith.
