First, my experience as an avid golfer. Then, prior reviews…read more Golf - scheduled in advance* a 7:16 tee time and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Brian and Elliot were friendly/welcoming, sharing that I was third off the tee and behind two local ladies that were walking , so forewarned it could be slow. The conditions were perfect, fairways freshly manicured and greens a bit spongy from late night/early morning rain, but still rolled well. I caught up to the walking group on hole three and at hole four they had stepped aside and kindly let me play through. Their names were Loray and Kathy, they were lovely. Overall, the course was fun, in pretty good condition and offered unique challenges due to its layout. I finished 18 in 2-ish hours. I would definitely recommend this course to folks visiting Helena. I had even left a divot remover in the cart only to receive a phone call from Elliot informing me, as we was aware I was out of state and didn't want me to lose out on personal belongings. Not many folks do that. Now. Prior reviews: - To Mark, slow play is common and not reason to rate the course zero stars. - To Jack, Sunday's at any course are typically booked solid. I think it fortunate the course was able to accommodate your begging request to play, albeit only able to fit you onto the regulation and not the desired par 3. Had you planned accordingly and in advance*, I'm certain you would have had a much different experience. Nobody wears sweats and beaters on the course anymore ;). The one star rating aligns more with your failure to following the six P's, cause most know Proper, Prior, Planning, Prevents, Poor, Performance.

We ended up playing 18 but felt an extreme amount of pressure to finish quickly due to the men's league starting 2.5 hours after our tee time. The course itself is pretty average for the cost ( paying for a decent view and mountains). The carts were pretty old and had trouble making it up hills. The greens were a bit inconsistent and hole placement was questionable. Overall if you're looking to golf in the area I'd recommend driving an hour or so to play a different course.

Relaxing, great atmosphere, friendly staff and most importantly great food! May not be for everyone…read morebut our group loved it. I felt like I was back in Europe given the low key dining set up where the food quality is what brings you back. We will be back!

Disappointing Experience at The Highlander in Helena, MT…read more We made a 7:30 p.m. reservation for my birthday a few weeks back, despite the negative reviews and what we had heard about the restaurant, staff and owner, we wanted to give the restaurant a chance and form our own opinion. My friends arrived before I did and sat at the bar to order a drink. She commented to the bartender that she had a really good margarita a few months back and the bartender snapped rudely at her and said "I changed the menu yesterday! We don't have that anymore. " When you work with the public and each time you're in an establishment and you're treated rudely by the staff, you remember it. I'm referring to an incident that happened over the summer regarding a gentleman that said that he was buying my friends drinks at the bar. She saw him pay for them because she was sitting at the bar two people down from him and then when the drinks showed up on their ticket, they asked the bartender why because he had bought them, the bartender and the owner argued and said  NO that was on a different tab, and refused to take them off of their ticket. The night of my birthday the restaurant was empty, yet both the bartender/server and owner attended our party of four. The server seemed irritated by our presence, and when we requested ranch or blue cheese with our wing appetizer- they give a 1 oz container of dressing for 4 people -the owner criticized our request and huffed loudly as she walked away. We had already ordered our meals when the wings were delivered, but felt uncomfortable enough to leave. Who wants to be treated with disrespect in any restaurant, and give them money to do so?? We had not touched the wings and informed the staff we were leaving, that we were not comfortable with their disrespectful tone. As we were driving out of the parking lot, the owner stood in front of our guest's  vehicle, keeping them hostage. My boyfriend attempted to hand her money, but she threw it back at him. The confrontation escalated Because she refused to move out of the way. What was supposed to be a nice birthday dinner ended with us leaving without eating. We understand that restaurants  have policies, but customer service is a JOB, and a restaurant's bread and butter. Requests and payment disagreements should be handled professionally and respectfully. We gave The Highlander a chance despite what we had heard, but unfortunately, our experience reinforced those concerns. We will not be returning it's not worth the elitist attitude coming from the bartender, or owner of the establishment.
