First of all, I didn't park in the parking lot because I guess I'm stupid. I plugged the mountain into the GPS and it took me to the nearest trailhead (not the parking lot associated with it). GIS data am I right? It's brilliant, but not intuitive.... Typically engineer stuff. It's like having Spock as your right hand man. Anyway, I park by these beautiful houses, I take my beasts out to roam.. with the intent of throwing rocks into the, "H" that overlooks our town as a gesture of solidarity. Meanwhile, Jacksie (my little baby girl) she's hormonal because she's about to start... SHE DISAPPEARED. I guess you could say I got, gone girl'd. Me and Djinn submitted, and did our civic duty, and then we hoofed it looking for, Jacksnthebox. Didn't find her. Where is she? I got a text shortly thereafter saying, "hey is your white dog missing?". Yes. "She's at XYZ address, you should scoop her." Me and Djinnyrd Skynyrd went grab the original beast; got there, picked her up, and started looking for my car... which at this point I realized, I had lost. Finally found the car, and quickly learned that I had lost my keys during the hike. (Fell out of my pocket.). Happy 4th of July, Marcus. Anyway... a 2 day ordeal, 30 miles worth of walking, blisters on my feet, AAA, and a locksmith turned it out alright. They truly cater to what you want out of the experience. The hospitality was out of this world! The family and all that work there are so warming and knowledgeable. I tried venison that Maria had shot herself, quartered and hauled back to the ranch. it was AMAZING!!!!! I seriously could go on and on and on about this place but there are literally not enough words to express how incredible this place is.

The Wirth family and everyone at the ranch made our stay such a fantastic experience that it's hard to put it into words. Warm smiles, wonderful horses, gorgeous scenery, home cooking, and songs around the campfire. They even managed to get my husband (who didn't enjoy any previous horse experiences) on horseback - TWICE. The first time was because he promised me, the second time was because he enjoyed it so much.

Several cars were parked while we briefly climbed to the top of one of the peaks to look out and take some pictures. The sign at the side of the road details the history of the pass between Deer Lodge and Helena, a tragic murder, a ghost story and some aviation history. While we were passing through, a pickup truck pulling a camper trailer was probably going too fast down the grade and had an accident. Fortunately, no one looked hurt. Be careful and watch your speed on these curvy mountain roads!

Things to know: *Plan on a minimum of 2 hours for this activity. *It's around a 50 minute drive from Helena to the mine. I won't kid you, once you turn onto Nelson Road it turns into dirt roads (that are rough at times, especially after it rains) so, make sure you have an appropriate vehicle. *Pay close attention to Google Maps (download the map to your device - no cell service) & the website. (Tip: stay on 4 Cee's road & look for Blue Jewel signs) *Yes, you do have to shovel the material from a huge pile of dirt into a 5 gallon bucket (so wear appropriate clothing and shoes). *Yes, you do have to physically screen material yourself (that is the exciting part of the hunt & learning experience). *Yes, Bruce will help you with finding gems in the pile (I was not experienced but, learned fast). *Ask Bruce to give you a tour. This was my first and although nervous i was excited to reap the benefits of this unfamiliar therapy. The float allows for complete muscle relaxation and the perfect setting to silence your brain and still your body. Nikki guided me through what the 60 minute session would be like. A private room with a shower for a quick rinse off and in the tank I goes. For the complete deprivation experience I shut the internal lights and music off, followed by closing the lid of the human sized egg shaped tank. Laying back in about 16" of water saturated with salt keeps me completely afloat and the sensation of being weightless in space begins. My first thought was there's was no way i would be able to do 60 minutes of silence with my body and brain as active as it is. Suddenly i was laying there, my body completely relaxed, my head completely silent...peace, relaxation, thinking this must be the verge of tranquility. As quickly as it started the 60 minute session was done and i was feeling calm refreshed and relaxed. Thank you Thrive!! I'm ready for the massage chair and sauna session next!!
