From the initial phone call to Ted, through meeting in person and getting a great down-to-earth vibe, through subsequent emails and phone conversations, Ted has been a courteous professional who has demonstrated the wonderful combinations of being helpful, patient, and true to his word. We hired Ted and his team to paint the inside of my mother's property in Monterey to prepare it as a rental for new tenants. After having interviewed at least six other painters, Ted not only had the most competitive bid out of the bunch but he also offered two coats of high-quality Kelly Moore paint, TWO different colors, different styles of paint (eggshell for the living areas and a more "wipeable" kind for the bathrooms and ktichen), AND was willing to paint by hand -- NOT with the typical "blow & go" methods of spray-painting most others assumed they would be doing... From experience, Ted suggested a color combination that indeed worked out very well between the walls and the ceiling/trimming/doors -- he even emailed me picture examples from a former job since I was out of town and could not see the samples in person. He also went out of his way to clean up the former painter's messy paint splatters on our natural wood trimming from YEARS ago as a favor to make the place look sharper with such detailing. He and his team also removed and hauled away old curtains we didn't plan on keeping. As promised, Ted and his team got NO paint whatsoever on our brand new carpeting which had just been freshly installed prior to his painting. He and his team finished on time in the four days planned, and to make the transaction simpler for both of us, he entrusted me with his bank info so that I could make two direct deposit payments into his account (being that I was out of town) -- 1/2 after he and his team commenced work and 1/2 upon my property manager's approval after completion. Bottom line? Ted in now officially my new painting vendor, and I will TOTALLY hire him and his team again down the road when it comes time to repaint for future tenants! AND... I whole-heartedly recommend him and his team to all of you reading this that are searching for "the perfect painter" as I had when I turned to Yelp for help. I called several painting companies to paint the exterior of a 1940's cottage with a two-story detached garage apartment ( & picket fencing). The original redwood siding had considerable peeling paint. I eventually received two other bids, one very high, and one about the same as Norton Painting. However, I was impressed by the fact that Ted picked up the phone the first time I called, arranged to see the property, and followed through on promptly emailing me a quote. As it turned out, the only time Norton Painting was available to do the job, I was out of town! I always like to be around when work is done, so this made me a bit uneasy. However, Ted kept updating me with photos of the work in progress, with explanations of the treatment of the peeling paint. By the time I got back in town, the job was almost complete & it looked beautiful! I really appreciate the attention to doing proper preparation and to details. These guys are really good painters! My wife and I paid for college by painting so we know a good paint job. First, the paint goes where it's supposed to and doesn't go where it isn't. Sounds elementary, but lots of painters don't even do that well. Then there's the brush work. This is where you separate the top painters from the rest. Watching the guy who painted the front door was like watching an artist. All the surfaces had the brush lines parallel and in the correct direction at the end. During the course of the final day of painting, I watched each of the three painters on the job doing doors or windows and each was careful and skilled. Then there's Ted, the owner. Ted at Nortan Painting has taken very good care of my house and rentals. I have gotten lots of estimates on painting my house and rentals from other contractors and Teds wasn't the lowest but not the highest.
