Contacted Brent Cardwell regarding a bid for remodeling of 3 bathrooms and a kitchen. Prior to…read moresigning the contract to begin work questioned him about his licensure status as a licensed bonded contractor. He represented that he was in fact licensed and bonded. Initiated contract and paid him $16,500 as an initial deposit. The paperwork and his emails to me confirm that deposit was for each part of the work $4,125 for each bathroom and the kitchen. Contract states for all work and materials to complete the remodel. Contractor was provided a scope document including materials specifications. Job was to take two months per the contract Work began on 5/7 with all supplies arriving on site. Demo began on the lower floor bathroom. It took nearly two weeks for demolishing phase to be complete. During this time numerous workmanship flaw began to materialize which contractor was quick to correct. When the lower bathroom work was about 25% complete contractor requested other progress payments to begin work on another bathroom. After two months, only two bathrooms has been started and neither was more than 30% through the agreed work and scope. At this point a total of $26,500 was paid to the contractor. Note that per the contract totally complete work for both bathrooms totaled $31,000. As work on the second bathroom progressed, we noticed significant workmanship defects. During the course of the work they used such invasive tools that it resulted in the ceiling above my child's room to detach from the framing and drywall to fall. Brent said he would correct it. They installed tile crooked and unevenly throughout the bathroom which he said he would correct, they installed baseboard in a non-standard fashion which he said he would correct. Then in early July contractor while on the site brought his known aggressive dog onto our property unbeknownst to us. His dog in a matter of 5 minutes of us being home attacked and killed our dog. This was reported to City of Chelan police, animal control and human society. We lost our pet, received 2200 in vet bills and our kids are currently in counseling after witnessing the incident. Post the death Brent stated his intention to finish the work and make amends. Approximately 3 weeks later Brent removed all materials for the job from my lot, removed my personal tools and all else and abandoned the job. The toilet, him and his unlicensed worker installed flooded my sons room with waste due to incorrect installation. The shower pan drain installed was not hooked up the waste line and flooded my sons room when tested. Items he removed temporarily were left outside in the rain and damaged. None of the defective installations of other materials were fixed and all materials on site removed, theft. In the end contractor stole 15k worth of money that was not due as the work was not done. Of the work that was done we are now receiving bids in excess of $30,000.00 to correct his deficient work and damages caused.

Started well, ended quite poorly. We hired Brent to do remodel work on an admittedly old house in…read moreManson that we only use seasonally. I'll try to condense what went well and areas of improvement. Good: -Initial meetings were great and Brent is easy to talk with. -Generally stuck to figures ($) within the 1st part of remodel contract. -Initially owned up to issues in workmanship. -Completed initial phase of work (though it took way longer than was agreed to in the initial contract) and was paid promptly. -Open to input on work being done. Could be improved: -Follow through/delays in communication and attention to detail/situational awareness. Examples: -Broke a side window (we agreed on a replacement, but it came out wonky). --Leaking PEX. -Leaking tub drain. -Front door left wide open (we only use this house seasonally so who knows how long it had been unsecured once we arrived). -Broken irrigation lines from driving on middle of front lawn and not blowing out lines before winter as promised. Emergent call from neighbor due to spewing water from frozen spigot again from not blowing out lines as promised. -Left garbage that needed to go to dump including a toilet in front of house for months. -Months long delays in sending promised photos of work progress. -Delays in quote for 2nd phase of project (had no clue how much the work was going to be until I got the invoice). -Delays in invoicing. -Not completing the only piece of the project that was time sensitive (flooring) which I ended up doing myself. -Neighbor had to come over to ask Brent that his dog not be let to bark incessantly (was tied up outside the house while work was being done). Summary, the work started well, but as time went on there were lapses in communication and things he or I needed to rework. I would have liked to continue working with Brent but there were two deal breakers and reasons for us to stop our working partnership: 1) House left unsecured with door wide open for unknown amount of time (Brent did not own up to this for months, later claiming he had to leave for emergency). Just something I shouldn't have to worry about. 2) Things needing rework or not finished on agreed upon timeline- When I come to the house I want to build upon the work that has been ongoing, not spend time fixing things that shouldn't need fixing (plumbing, irrigation lines). In addition, the only true timeline item that really mattered to me was getting the flooring done as I was bringing a trailer of kitchen cabinets to install on a strict timeline. Flooring not done, so I did it myself. All of this was summarized to Brent, and unfortunately none of the concerns were agreed to. Literally ZERO accountability as if I made everything up. Ultimately, having added up the billable hours and scope of overall work, the project should have taken around 6-8 weeks to complete. The actual project took well over a year. Again, I don't live in the house so was VERY flexible on time frames except for the agreed to flooring which was not done. I'd say most of the work was done by he and a laborer close to him. Considering what I paid for the work done, workmanship, timeline, and unnecessary rework/headaches the value is just not there. I hesitated writing this review for quite awhile, as I don't like to mess with a person's livelihood. I'd just say you may very much need to micromanage the project (something I do not like doing) to be assured of getting what you are asking for.

We had concerns initially when reading some of the reviews and looked around for other contractors , but we found they are in short supply...We moved forward to work with Steelhead and 4 months later I have to say that Weston and his crew have 100% earned our trust and respect. We got off to a bit of a slow start since there was a shortage of available contractors and he was spread pretty thin, but we're halfway through and the momentum has really increased. Weston has proven to be smart, responsive, and has great money / time saving (and aesthetically awesome) ideas while still delivering high quality work. In engineering costs alone he saved us over 10K from what we were able to find on our own. We bought the property with an unfinished unit and it is now ready to go and is beautiful. Weston was able to think ahead in planning for a 5th unit and has implemented some clever tweaks to prepare for that and the permitting that will be involved. Although I hate to share him when we're only halfway through our project I have to give credit where it is due. I (and my team) now fully trust that our project is in good hands and we're excited to have our finished project be a part of his portfolio in Spring 2022. I'll add photos and more updates as we move forward.
