Do you want to be devastated financially, physically, and emotionally?? Want to cause your family and friends an unbelievable amount of stress? Want to lose all of your sick time and be forced to take over a year off of work? Do you want unending medical bills resulting from attempts to fix a surgeon's mistake? Want to suffer horrible, chronic pain? Want to cancel plans, get togethers, and trips with family and friends? Want ongoing, serious medical issues that may last a lifetime? Then go see Dr. Elizabeth Newell at Northwest Ob/Gyn! Dr. Newell told me at two pre-surgery appointments that my laparoscopic hysterectomy would be easy, "a piece of cake." Had the surgery in September of 2020 and didn't feel well a few days later, so I went to the ER (where I was told I had some post-surgical inflammation and to go home and rest). I also made two calls to NW Ob/Gyn's after hours nurse a few days later (and was told both times that my symptoms were normal for having just had a hysterectomy). Dr. Newell's mistake (she perforated my colon during surgery and didn't catch it) led to emergency surgery, two weeks in the hospital for a septic infection, an ileostomy bag for many months, another hospitalization for several days, many medical procedures, and three other surgeries and hospitalizations, with more possible in the near future.. It has been almost two years since my hysterectomy and I'm still having complications related to her surgical mistake. Recently had my gallbladder removed due to the septic infection and now have chronic pain that is horrible with frequent vomiting, and more days missed at work. I never had any health issues whatsoever before this medical error happened.. Now awaiting another procedure to see if scar tissue has built up internally from all of these surgeries to fix Dr. Newell's mistake. Ironically, NW Ob/Gyn still billed me for this hysterectomy, even though they also received a large payment from my insurance company. This practice is only concerned with "the bottom line." Takes a lot of heartlessness to send a bill to a patient who is in the hospital due to an injury caused by one of their own doctors. I went to Dr. Newell to have a medical issue addressed and my health has been destroyed. I have had to seek counseling to deal with the huge changes to my life resulting from this incident. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Find a doctor who is more experienced than this one! read more

I have been a patient here for many years and loved it! The staff was amazing, however they have had some turn over. The front desk gal is so incredibly rude, I am taken back. I have called serval times in the past two weeks regarding a stressful situation during my pregnancy and every time she has been very rude and short. It's also been hard to touch base with a nurse or MA. I do realize they are short staffed right now and doing the best they can, but no excuses for the front desk to be so rude. To work in a medical office you need some compassion! read more

It's unlikely that I'll come here again. I went in because I was experiencing some female issues. I had experienced these same issues about a year before and was seen at a different office. Since my insurance had changed, I was told Northwest Ob/Gyn took my insurance. The midwife I saw did an exam, sent a sample off to the lab, and concluded there was nothing wrong with me. I told her I had experienced the same symptoms before and that there was definitely something going on. She acted like she had no idea what I was talking about, and told me they could get my records from before, but it could take more than a week to do so. I left without a diagnosis or any help of any kind, and bawled my eyes out in my car. I ended up calling the office I had been seen at the previous year, getting the name of the bacteria causing my problems, and calling Northwest back. They went ahead and wrote a script for some antibiotics. So not only did I not receive any help during the actual visit, I basically had to diagnose myself. Oh, and they made sure to send me a hefty bill in the mail for it too. read more

Be prepared to wait over 45 minutes past your appointment time to be called back, just to wait another 20+ minutes to be seen by the doctor. I've been coming to this office for over 3 years and while I love Dr. Pakk, the scheduling here is absolutely ridiculous. I have never been seen in less than an hour after checking in shortly BEFORE my appointment time (which is a decision I always hope will mitigate the chance of waiting forever, yet arriving early never helps). Just bring a lot of reading material, games for your kids if they have to tag along, and even a snack because you'll be waiting FOREVER. read more

I was recommended to this office from a friend of a friend. This office completely failed me and I would never trust them after what happened to me. I go in for first ultrasound to see Cindy Brigham-Althoff (midwife) for my pregnancy at 8 weeks to find no heartbeat via Doppler. I was told to come back on 1/28. When we came back in that day we find out that our baby stopped growing at 6.5 weeks "maybe" and no heartbeat. I was told to come back in a week. So of course I'm devastated to hear this news. I leave the office in complete sadness & shock. As I leave & drive away I realized hey why didn't they take my blood to check my HCG level. Why should I have to wait a week!? I go back in to ask if they can do that after waiting 45mins to see a nurses assistant. She said oh yeah you can do that! So I then anxiously await a phone call ALL day for results since they did a stat on the blood work. I get no call. I decided to drive across town (35mins) the next day because I couldn't get through on the phone because apparently this was the week Comcast cable accidentally deleted there phone number. Yeah that's right they deleted the hospitals phone number! Go figure what timing for all this to happen right!?? Then after that I had to take blood a few days later to check HCG level again. Then I find out yes in fact we're having a "missed miscarriage" so because the baby never expelled itself on it's own I elected to do a D&C. Friday was the earliest day they could get me in. I had no signs or symptoms either so this was tragic. Dr Zwiesler did my surgery who was kind, compassionate and a great listener. I got to talk to the head nurse when I went back in for my pre op later that week. I expressed the lack of frustration I had with how this was all handled. I also explained that if Cindy taken blood on the first appointment back on the 1/18 this would have unfolded differently. Not to mention that depending on the situation we possibly could have found a solution rather than had a miscarriage. I personally thought Cindy needed more guidance & education. I come to find out she is a new midwife. I understand we all have to start somewhere in our career but how can you tell someone you think they basically have an expired life in them & let the person go home & wait for a week with no possible answers until then? Unacceptable. Then come the time of my D&C I elected to do genetic testing. So a few weeks after surgery I go in for follow up appointment. I was then told here is the paperwork for your cancer screening which is routine testing which I didn't know anything about. It came back benign but the third party company who did your genetic screening (cytogenetics) said there wasn't enough tissue sent from pathology. That would have told me the sex of our baby along with a few possible answers in regards to what may have happened. So I'm now devastated all over again because now I won't have the closure I now envisioned because someone did do there job!? So of course my head is now spinning as I am told this. Like anyone in my shoes I'm sure would want answers as to what exactly happened. I called the medical director wanting further explanation!? He said there wasn't enough viable tissue to test. COMPLETELY different than what I was told from Megan who is Dr Zwiesler medical assistant. So now I have grieved unnecessarily in the aspect I won't have closure cause I thought someone failed me. But in reality this office has been the one that has failed me the entire time. I am STILL waiting on a call from Dr Zwiesler to see how in fact he told his medical assistant that I was tested for cancer when I wasn't. Not to mention pathology DID do there job and they DID send enough tissue to be tested to cytogenetics. It had nothing to do with that. It was the fact that there was no viable tissue at all. How can you tell a patient completely incorrect information!? The lack of communication is appalling. This is a life changing event to begin with. Now I have involved a medical director for no reason. This entire situation is mind blowing! I'm outraged. Like is this a joke!? Absolutely inexcusable & a poorly run practice! I am heartbroken to say the least! I have no faith in this place. I guess you have to be your own advocate these which is a very frustrating place to be when your dealing with any medical situation especially the loss of your child! read more

This is one of the most unfriendly and unkind office staff ever. I needed to make an appointment for an annual exam, left my name and phone number, did not get a call, so I called back the next week, was put on hold, transferred back to the scheduler, put on hold again twice, then receive a voice message saying that I had to leave my name, phone number and date of birth. They still haven't gotten back to me. I had to see my nurse practitioner, Jen, in an emergency situation about two years ago, and the staff made me pay in advance, $114, before they would let me register. because my insurance wouldn't pay for the visit. I was thoroughly embarrassed in front of other people. I like Jen, but they should fire everybody in the front and back office and hire some people that understand customer support and relations. read more

I was pregnant with my first baby during the beginning of COVID so I got to see several of the providers and they all made me feel comfortable and made sure I was doing okay. During such an uncertain and confusing time, everyone was kind, compassionate and reassuring. Making sure my baby and I were taken care of. Thank you so much for such a great experience! Now on to my doctor specifically, Dr. Newell. While I didn't see her my entire pregnancy she was there during the beginning and the end. I absolutely love the staff here at this clinic. They have been helpful since the very beginning. My very first in-person experience was when my husband and I attended their New Beginnings class. While there, my husband encouraged me to tell the nurse some of my symptoms, which I did and she directed me to call in to the providers the next day. Now mind you, I had not officially had my first appointment yet. The next day I called in and got an immediate call back from one of the nurses and they put me in for a same-day ultrasound. That was the day we found out we were having twins. I barely six weeks pregnant but they had taken my concerns seriously and treated me with respect and got to the bottom of my symptoms. All of my in-clinic ultrasounds have gone smoothly, the nurses and techs are knowledgeable and kind and they even offer cold bottled water, cheese and crackers or juice if you need some fluids or some carbs. I have never waited long for an appointment and my provider Dr. Miles has encouraged me to call in if I have any concerns or questions I couldn't think of during my visit. She is amazing and she has great bedside manner. She takes her time and answers questions thoroughly and with patience. She has eased my anxiety quite a bit through this process and I couldn't be more thankful. She includes my husband in the conversation and answers his questions as well. I am now 29 weeks pregnant and the birth isn't that far off but I know I am in good hands with Dr. Miles and her caring staff. I would recommend this clinic to anyone in need of their services. read more

So many of my friends go to this office and we all LOVE Smetana and Messinger. :) Robin delivered our first son in 2008. She also stopped everything and bent over backwards to love and support us when we chose to go to a birth center for our second...going nearly 42 weeks and then having after birth complications. She never made me feel badly for choosing an unmedicated birth at a birth center though I know she had concerns (well founded it turns out). In hindsight I wish I had had our unmedicated birth in the hospital with her! They were very rude and short at the front desk when we signed in. We waited for a very long time then when we got into the doctor's room we waited for almost two hours. Every time someone came in or out we waited even more. Definitely longer wait then any other place I have been. To top all of that off, I called the Thursday before a Monday appointment then 3 call backs later I was told our insurance didn't cover the type of birth control I wanted. It was not so much the news but in how they spoke, "If you come Monday you won't get the Mirena put in!" I was left with the thought of "Okay, so what am I supposed to do?" They could have figured this out the whole time we were waiting there. Especially because it was clear that birth control was the MAIN reason why I was there. Also, they weren't clear on the phone about what birth control was even covered. I had to call another clinic to get that information, and that was very easy because they were friendly. It is hard to go somewhere like this and be treated this way when you know the potential of how a clinic should be ran. It's like they thought they didn't need to have good customer service???? We are absolutely never going back and I wouldn't recommend it unless you like being treated like trash and you're business is not important! read more

I had a horrifying experience here with Dr Sarah Hammil. It has been over 4 years but I am still undergoing surgeries to fix her destruction I was referred to her for complications with my bladder sling, specifically suspicion of mesh erosion. When I walked in for my first visit she informed me that I did not have mesh erosion and that she would not do surgery before she even examined me. I should have ran the other way but I was brought up to trust in doctors. She told me that I did not need pain control that my pain was from anxiety. She sent me to pelvic floor therapy, I could only do 2 sessions as it caused unbearable pain. I found out later that pelvic floor therapy is not appropriate for mesh erosion, that it is akin to " rubbing a cheese grater over your insides". When I told her the therapy was causing pain, she became irritated, rolled her eyes, and said " I guess were going to surgery. She performed surgery and came out and informed my husband that she " got it all out except for a tiny piece behind a bone". When I came to my 6 week follow up and told her my symptoms had not improved she again became irritated and rolled her eyes at me and told me " I'm not going to prescribe narcotics to you". I told her I didn't ask for narcotics, I am asking for help. I asked her how much mesh was actually left in me and she would not give me a straight answer but kept telling me " that information is in your chart" I was still bleeding and she had to apply some kind of silver substance. She informed me that there is nothing she can do for me. I asked for a referral to another Dr and she said that she's the only " expert for 500 miles. I didn't know what to do, I started to wonder if I was actually crazy. My next stop was to Dr Richards at Spokane OBGYN and he immediately found " easily palpable mesh" upon exam. He said that there was no way she removed all of it, that I had severe erosion out both sides of my urethra. I had to travel to Vancouver WA and undergo 4 additional surgeries so far to remove the mesh. The doctor there said that she had only removed a 6 mm piece of mesh from underneath my bladder and confirmed this by the pathology report. He said she should have never done a partial removal because it caused the rest to fragment and makes it harder if not impossible to remove the rest. He read her records for me and she had written that I had "specifically requested narcotics" which was completely false, I had simply told her I was in pain. She had written that she performed surgery at my request but that nothing was actually wrong and implied I was emotionally unstable. She wrote that I was completely fine at my follow up and didn't even document that I was bleeding or the silver substance she applied. After being called out on that she documented it 5 months later. She completely slandered me. She had spoken with my PCP on the phone and told him the same things , that nothing was wrong with me to cause pain, and that I was " drug seeking" so he discharged me and would not manage my severe pain but has since apologized after getting info from my dr in Vancouver My dr in Vancouver said he sees this exact thing all the time from AUGS urogynocologists which she is a member of AUGS. He said they do that because of all the mesh lawsuits, they avoid performing mesh removal surgery, they won't ever diagnose a mesh complication and they slander the patient because they are more worried about being sued than the welfare of mesh injured patients. After reading her and Dr Partolls reviews on other sites I learned that I am not the only one. Dr Hammil delayed me getting proper treatment and I had to suffer unnecessarily because of her. I called NW OBGYN's office manager about the whole situation and Dr Hammil would not respond to the office manager Cee Cee. Finally I was called by a dr Zweisler who was rude and dismissive and could care less. I got no help from NW OBGYN. Stay away read more

changed my life. respectful, professional and kind. recommend to anyone who thinks they may have endometriosis. dr. pakk was referred to me by a younger girl with similar symptoms to mine. ive never been to a male dr, let alone gyno before him but i was at my wits end. endometriosis is painful and saddening. he never rushed, coerced or said a word when i was describing my symptoms and made me feel heard, and valued as a human. i've struggled with doctors who have merely judged me off attractiveness, and most of those were women. i did a diagnostic laparoscopy surgery with dr pakk and his amazing staff. i was comfortable and relaxed. and they made sure of it since i was quiet nervous to be put under, since i've never been. all i can say is my quality of life has drastically changed since the surgery and i am recovering, finding myself while feeling empowered to help others who were in my situation. dr. pakk restored my faith in some aspects because i was so depressed, i was fully disassociating myself from life. i've never had a problem with the staff whatsoever. if you think you might have symptoms related to endometriosis cells i'd recommend maybe booking an appointment! it really did change my life for the better thank you northwest obgyn! read more

So sorry to read the other review on here! We absolutely have had a very different experience in this office. Dr. Kathryn Miles was my OB for years and was always extremely kind, attentive, gentle, and supportive. When we finally got pregnant, on a whim I switched practices so that I would have the option of delivering at either Sacred Heart or Deaconess (I didn't know what I wanted yet and northwest OBGYN only delivers at Sacred Heart). Well, mistake!! I went to Robin Messinger at OBGYN-Spokane and had a horrible experience with her, with her nurse Jamie on several occasions (don't get me started, but I have since had confirmation of my feelings on both Messinger and Jamie from a half dozen people, both patients and fellow health care professionals) and my husband also just hated their facilities and staff in general (dirty, impersonal, staff yells and you really are just a number..). QUICKLY we went running back to Northwest OBGYN and specifically Dr. Miles (oh and I should note that when we informed Northwest OBGYN we were leaving, the nurse on the phone was sad and asked why! When we left Messinger's office, the nurse didn't even look up and when I said "sorry we're leaving!" she didn't ask why but just said, "no problem, it happens all the time." ) Anyway, my husband had never met Dr. Miles before, but as we went for our first appointment together he was immediately calmed by the waiting room and impressed with the welcoming staff and facilities. Dr. Miles...I hadn't seen her in a few years and she STILL remembered really minute details of my life, not just the basics (stuff I didn't even remember!). We never had a long wait, and even at a few appointments when I knew she had to be off somewhere (like a scheduled C section one time, a meeting another), she still never rushed us through our questions. She was always super open and never made us feel anything but trust and support. Fast forward to the birth of our son, which ended up being complicated and needed an emergency C-section, Dr. Miles was amazing! She stopped by multiple times on breaks just so we knew she was there. She has an amazingly gentle approach and checking the cervix actually didn't hurt!! (It was excruciating when the hospital nurse did it..so Dr. Miles came and would do it herself). When baby first went into major distress but then leveled, Dr. Miles was not quick to suggest surgery but instead went and SLEPT IN THE ON-CALL ROOM ALL NIGHT (even though she lives nearby) so she would be there when we needed her, which we did around 4:30 a.m. We ended up needing a C-section and we completely trusted her, and she was brilliant. At follow up visits, nurses who had seen us through the pregnancy were super excited to meet our son (like, stopped what they were doing and came around the corner to see us "we've been dying to meet him, wondered when you were going to bring him in!"). Also, big note if you can to see her NP Brianne on those alternate visits when you might not see Miles, Brianne is AMAZING. So much good advice, so much care, never ever felt rushed or disrespected from either of these ladies. Dr. Miles at Northwest OBGYN will remain my OB as long as I live here and she's still in practice. I cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

I finally found a doctor who can help me and now NW OB-Gyn won't take my insurances as payment in full.. I have never been turned away by any doctors in the Spokane area.. They really haven't turned me away if I want to make all the large co-pays, which my Group Health Ins and especially my ChampVA have always picked up. The real hang-up is Margo the bookkeeper, and I guess her employers have told her, not to take these insurances as payment in full. I pay almost $400.00 a month for medical insurance, so this was a real slap in the face.. Talk about GREED!! read more

It's sad that I had to give them one star I was a patient back in 2009 Dr Zwiesler delivered my son for me, now mind you this review isn't based off him but the staff and management. My pregnancy was difficult the doctor was a delight and extremely understanding I was of course ecstatic this being my first child and to find an OB/GYN that took the time to listen and understand made my pregnancy that much easier, after having my son I never returned and continued with my original OB/GYN I found out about a week ago that I was pregnant the first person that came to mind was Dr. Zwiesler. I called to schedule an appointment speaking with office staff I was told that I was discharged from the office and not allowed to be seen as a patient. This is where it gets interesting. First of all I was completely baffled, the reasoning behind my discharge which I was told originally was because I was disgruntle against office management over a co-pay now I don't pay co-pays I explained that to them there must be some type of misunderstanding she had told me "our systems have changed I'll look into it further" so I called back now this time when I'm told the reason that I was discharged was because in 2008 I had missed too many appointments now mind you my son was born in 2009... She explained that throughout my pregnancy I had missed three appointments so I returned with a question why was I not discharged then she said she had no reason to why I wasn't let go then and why I was still taken in as a patient? Now this being my first pregnancy I asked the dates of when the appointments were missed they were all in my first trimester I had a very rough pregnancy and the doctor understood he had me on bed rest. The office had down my primary doctor wrong, my address wrong, at this point I'm explaining to the lady there has to be something wrong with your system if I personally had a bad experience in the beginning I wouldn't be calling now to return and to top it off I never received a discharge letter. We reviewed all my information which wasn't correct, now I'm speaking to CeCe she says she'll look into it more. I finally call her yesterday to find out what was going on because it is important that I get in to see an OB/GYN she came to the conclusion that the reason I was discharged was because of too many missed appointments in 2008. How is it that there were three different reasonings behind me being discharged that weren't valid and completely incorrect. She acted as if she didn't care she simply told me you'll have to find another OB/GYN, at this point and I quote "ma'am you told me that the reason first was because of the co-pay, then it switched from that to missed appointments don't you find this a little interesting there was obviously some lack of proper records when you changed your system" she simply blew me off and told me good luck with your pregnancy. I am absolutely disgusted! If anything I would expect an office that deals with women's health, pregnancy etc. would be understanding and realized that those appointments weren't intentionally missed they were rescheduled and also to look into the notes that I was on bed rest! The sad thing and what is extremely frustrating is I had an amazing rapport with this doctor and he was fully aware of my circumstances and the risks of my pregnancy unfortunately you have to go through the gate keepers that have no clue what went on, so needless to say the one man that I entrusted and built a relationship with I'm not allowed to see! I first saw Dr Linda Partoll for a what I thought was a prolapsed bladder. My Mother had 3 surgeries for her's so when I felt mine I knew what it was. The office staff was kind and professional and after a few visits remembered my name. Dr Partoll was professional but soon I became very comfortable with her. She is a down to earth type of person and always took time with me. Sometimes the wait was a little long to be called in to see her but I understood it was because of the fact that she took time to answer questions and didn't rush you through the appointment. Well, she checked me and said I had the Three Musketeers! I had prolapsed my bladder, bowel and cervix. She did the repair and things seemed fine only my bladder fell. She felt horrible but being a nurse I understood that tissues thin after menopause. The second repair did the trick. At this time my Mom had her 4th repair by a different doctor in a different office. She had prolapsed as soon as she had stood up to get out of the car at home coming from the hospital. She went to Dr Shemmel and he told her that he could do nothing more for her and no more operations and sent her home. Mom started to lose weight. She got smaller and smaller in her chair. She was now incontinent. My Mom showed me what had happened and I was mortified. I couldn't believe any Doctor would leave a woman in this condition. She had a mass the size of a soft ball hanging out of her. She had some drainage that I couldn't see where it was coming from. I told both of my parents that they had to see Dr Partoll. I knew that my beloved Mom would not live to see Christmas. She is 86 but otherwise in good heath. This was just too much. She and Dad finally asked me to call and make an appointment. Dr Partoll was so sweet to Mom. She said she was sorry that it was going to hurt to examine Mom but she had to see what she was dealing with. She told Mom that she couldn't guarantee that Mom wouldn't be incontinent but that she could get the mass back inside. She never said that Mom was too old or too frail. She gave Mom hope. Mom had surgery and when Dr Partoll came out she told us that Mom had an orange size ulcer on the mass and a fistula that went from her bladder to her vagina. She said everything looked good. Mom is now dry without a bit of leakage, there is no longer any mass or ulcer. Christmas is just days away. Dr Partol has given my family the greatest gift anyone could ever give, she gave all of us our Mom back. Mom has gained weight and strength. She does household chores helps Dad with fixing dinner.
