What a wonderful organization who helps us humans help our animal friends in times of need. When 9…read moremallard ducklings were abandoned by their parents at our condo I was worried & unsure about what the appropriate course of action would be. I called & left a voicemail which was returned promptly. Their staff person gave me detailed, specific instructions on how to best assist these cutie patooties until the morning as they were closing for the day. These instructions including information about this type of duckling & issues they encounter, appropriate shelter options & general care tips. I loaded the 9 ducklings into my car at 8:30am so that I could be there promptly when they opened at 9:00am. I rang the bell to notify them of my arrival & was greeted promptly & warmly. The staff provided me with an intake form that allowed for me to describe in detail what brought the animals there. Once that was complete I turned them over to their care where they will be receiving a medical evaluation & care. If possible they will be become part of another mallard family or they will likely be fostered. This is such a valuable service for these types of situations. I am an animal lover, so I am ever grateful for the opportunity that Ohio Wildlife Center provides to rescue those in need.

The leadership was great at communicating throughout the recruitment process. At the event, all staff members who worked with the volunteers loved doing so and the volunteers had great feed back too. I've also had the pleasure of volunteering myself. I love that the group offers a variety of organizations to become involved with. The flexibility has provided me a volunteer experience that works with my schedule. The other volunteers have always been wonderful and I know I'll continue to volunteer and recommend to friends. I have made legitimate friendships and had meaningful volunteering experiences. Sometimes, you just need to do something for someone else and CGB is an easy way to connect to volunteering events in the Columbus area. My favorite events locations include Meals on Wheels with LifeCare Alliance and the YWCA Family Center. Not only has CGB helped me help out the community, but I've had a chance to try some amazing restaurants with the volunteers after the events. I would highly recommend volunteering with this group if you're looking to meet people and do something good in the Columbus area.

They make it absurdly hard to get a kitten. It honestly feels like they prefer the cats stay there…read moreforever rather than go to loving homes. The process was unnecessarily long, complicated, and frustrating from start to end. We were asked to fill out a form and provide an excessive amount of personal information, only for them to reach out 2 days later to schedule a meeting... which they canceled. Not once. Not twice. Three times. By the fourth attempt, we honestly should've taken that as a sign. When we finally made it to the Zoom call, we mentioned that we already have a cat, which we thought would help speed things up. Somehow, it did the opposite. We were told we had to submit our cat's vaccination records, and IF AND ONLY IF those were approved, we might be allowed to meet the kitten two weeks later, since she was in a foster home. At that point, we were done. We didn't send anything. Instead, we drove straight to the Humane Society. And what a difference. We walked in, met the most adorable kitten on the planet, petted her, filled out some basic paperwork, and were treated like normal, trustworthy people, not suspects under investigation. We walked out with our kitten in under two hours. This place was completely unserious, wildly inefficient, and a total waste of time.

Nobody helped direct me on counseling services for the LGBTQ+ who have been in a Domestic Violent Relationship. And end up homeless after paying for half the stuff and taking care of a $550,000 home right in my own community on Erie Rd where I would walk w my chihuahua and short hair pointer to the park of Roses and back home. I don't know what in the world is going on. I thought this establishment cared about the LGBTQ+ community. It has signs up that says all are welcome. Welp. It's not true! I mean. It's definitely better resources than we get on the West Side. Over here everyone just wants us not to exist in life.

The adoption fee may seem somewhat pricey, but it covers shots/immunizations/spay or neuter and even microchipping. The fact that all their animals are in foster homes may discourage potential customers, but the foster parents bring the animal to you before the adoption is finalized, that way you get a chance to interact with them, the animal gets a chance to meet you and your family, plus other pets that might be in the household. At least that is what I thought back in 2009 when I first discovered this place. Now - at the time I was a novice to board gaming. Sure I played Monopoly or Battleship, but this was something more. Its not just a place for people to play games, is a community. The first time I walked into this place, I was nervous. Not sure what to expect or how many people would be there. I was very pleased and reassured. Not only was I greeted at the Door by a board member for the club, I was given the tour and immediately asked to join in the fun. I didn't know then... but this opened my world to a whole new form on entertainment. Being a gamer , as in board gaming, was something new to me. So I didn't know where to start or learn games. Here they have people who are more then happy to teach a game to you. They will let you play the game at your learning pace -despite being able to breeze through the game on memory of playing. There is food trucks that come to the meetings and it varies each time. There are snacks available for purchase to munch on through out the day. Lets talk about the games they have... with well over 750+ games in their library they have everything from kids games , to card games, to euro and war games. This is a place for all gamers. They even have a Designer's group where people create and play test games. Its great to be involved in such a community of gaming, and as years have past the gaming community has just grown. Your first visit is totally free, and if you return again and again its only $5.00 a visit. You can chose to join, and become a full member with CABS. Honestly the prices have changed several times over the years. I do know that the 2015 rate will be $80 for returning members and $49.00 for new members (not having been apart of CABS in the last 3 years) The Membership includes: Access to the ever growing Library (currently 750+ games) Free admittance to Buckeye Game Fest.
