I have lived in the north as well as the South of England throughout my life and I like nothing better than a good local pub with knowledgeable people who have great conversation.
When in the North East I always frequent the Northumberland Arms in Bedlington as it epitomises what a local pub should be. Contrary to Stonemasons views (I am happy that everyone is entitled to their own opinion), I have never been offended by the language in the bar and to add to that the staff enforce a no swearing poicy and will always tell someone if their language is inapropriate.
The quaint decor, low beams and great music, which consists of a pletora of classics, regularly including Clapton, Van Morrison and buble by day and a slightly cheesier selection by night, provides an inviting atmosphere, which, without doubt makes this bar my favourite local pub in the country.
Mary the owner, always provides a smile and the bar staff including Amy, Vanessa, Hayley and Dan are always up for some good old fashioned friendly banter. If you get the chance pay a visit and taste some of the best cask conditioned ales in the country. read more
