Salt Space Coworking - New Farm
(1 review)
When you work from home, having somewhere you can escape to and work from is super important. Salt…read moreHouse, for me, is one of those places. Salt House is a co working space is New Farm and I first stumbled across it online and I popped in to have a look at the space and see how it felt. It's tucked away upstairs on Brunswick Street and as I walked up the stairs, I was automatically put at ease. The wooden floors and high ceilings made me comfortable and I felt like I was in someone's house. I was greeted by the owners and given the tour and I immediately knew it was a space I could work from. I booked in for the following day and was happy to find I was easily able to concentrate. I took meetings on the balcony and it was great to have a base for the day from my house. As of July 1st they're changing their rates and introducing a yearly membership which gives you 50% their day rate. Definitely something I'm considering.

Yet, in the industrial back streets of Mansfield, Book To Cook have managed to deliver just that. Pouring coffee, tea and serving basic cafe eats like an egg and bacon slider from a front kiosk, the space upstairs is a boardroom with hot desks available to hire for remote workers. Downstairs is a commercial kitchen able to be rented by local food producers. Having spent a few hours working from their hot desks I was able power out work on my laptop and be fuelled by coffee from downstairs. The space is peaceful, wi-fi solid and perfect to jolt yourself out of looking at the same four walls of home. Book To Cook is family run and while it's early days it feels like there's promising things ahead for this multi-purpose venue. Southsiders - take note!

I used to work in this building, and indeed it's beautiful. The foyer of the Christie Centre…read moreinvites you into a large room with a cute coffee stand on the left, plants on the right and beautiful pieces of antique pottery and vases in glasses in the walls. It all reeks of some rich 19th Century Baron's smoking room or library, except that a) the coffee stand is modern, funky and metallic; and b) if you sat back on the lounge and smoked a cigar in here the face of a security guard will be the last thing you see before you hit the pavement outside. The offices themselves carry on the same theme, with antiques decorating the rooms like you're in an elitist museum. There are a lot of vases, which look to be in the Ming-Vase style to me. However, though I studied Ancient History for the life of me I couldn't tell you what era they're from, just that they must be expensive. Christie's has 230 Offices to choose from over 11 levels and 30 meeting rooms. There's also a Fitness First down stairs if you feel like gunning your lats.
