The good: very easy to rent a kayak; I arrived 15 minutes early and they were fine with me starting early. I rented for 1 hour. The price, $23, is very reasonable considering that a one day pass to go on Tempe Town Lake is $10. I am an experienced kayaker so brought my own kayaking clothes, PFD, dry bags, paddle, and cart. Moving the kayak from the store to the water was easy. The bad: the kayak was very slow , tracking was marginal,, and it handled a light chop poorly. My time was almost up and I was heading back to the dock when I realized I was sinking. My PFD kept me safe but my paddle leash, secured to my seat strap, came loose. The strap had unhooked from the gunnel. So there I was floating in the water with my paddle while the kayak floated away. I was able to swim to a nearby dock and a young man pulled me out. Then he used a life ring on a rope to pull in the kayak. My deepest gratitude goes out to him. The guy at Northshore said I might have taken a kid's kayak but their website makes no mention of this option and there were no signs on the rack. Except for asking if I was ok, Northshore has been completely unhelpful. read more

Easy, self-serve, and good prices. It is right next to the boat launch and docks so it's really convenient. If you need help, they are right next door. Two hours was a good amount of time to go from the dock, to the east end of the river, under the bridges to the west, and back. read more

PS my husband had a great tip to be able to fully paddle/steer the board on just one side from his days in the Philippines, he said to google "banana boat rowing" not sure if this is a real thing online but it worked for him. This place is very distasteful. The man who helped us lied about their closing hours and told us they would be closed so we had to bring the kayak back and carry it ourselves. Turns out they are open 24 hours a day and the employees were too lazy to bring the equipment back so they tried to take advantage of us . I honestly hope this place closes down in the pandemic we're still having. read more

I was able to reserve over the phone on the way to the business and fill out the forms needed on my phone. Super easy. She loaded the kayak on our car for us and provided us with everything we would need (straps, life jacket, foam so the top of the car didn't scratch, etc.). Very friendly, and offered to store personal items in the store in the [rare] chance they'd get wet via a fall in the water. Ultimately after about 5 minutes in the water on the paddle board my son and I determined the stand up wasn't for us. Chad was extremely understanding and instead offered individual kayaks and restarted our time of one hour per the Groupon voucher. Totally recommend this place! Fantastic customer service! Bought a Groupon for 90 minute stand-up paddle boarding for 2 people. Tried to make reservations ahead of time by leaving a voicemail, but not sure if it was even necessary. They are obviously familiar with the deal and it was super easy to redeem (I hate when businesses make me feel bad or embarrassed about using Groupon... definitely not the case here). They took our boards and paddles down to the water and gave us a quick tutorial about how to stoke. We had a fantastic time! Next time, I'll probably rent a speaker for $5 to take out on the water with us. Can't wait to go back! read more

Called and booked last week four for paddle boarding, they had no record of my booking and they were closed. Spoke with Lindy on Sunday she said we could come down and get them out of the storage at 10, she provided cell phone to call her Monday to verify time. Called and verified time and was told I would have to Come later in the day someone else had the paddle boards. When called at 9:05 sounded like they were in bed and passed the phone over to a male that rudely said "what's your problem". We have planned our day around our booking. Just had a great time paddle boarding in Tempe. We rented paddle boards from Northshore Watersports and they were more than accommodating. The boards were in great condition and everyone that worked there was friendly and helpful. I did not even get to finish my question before the guy on the other end of the phone RUDELY interrupted me and said he did not offer pedal boats. When I asked why the offer pedal boats on the website he literally just said "I DONT KNOW, is that all"?...
