Summer League Basketball - 8/11/24 Minors Game

I like the gym, it is clean, the floor is well maintained and shiny, the a/c is cold and good for summer, a lot of parking spaces and its a a nice residential area. The only thing I noticed is that, they need to improve the lighting in this gym. Compared to other recreation centers we've been like Winnetka, Victory-Vineland & Mason, this gym is kinda dark inside especially if you are seated in the corners. The vibe feels different. They are also still using yellow lights, rather than white or LED LIGHTS. If they add or improve their lightings in the gym, it will look and feel different like more inviting and not lively. But overall it ia a really nice gym and glas they offer winter and summer basketball league here.

Lovely morning walk this morning. Plenty of greenery around. And big trees that gives shade for picnic goers. I saw people playing baseball and basketball as well. Families coming out of the car with kids to play in the playground.

    Beautiful open fields!

Luckily a short walk from home leads me to this great park! Wide open spaces for many people to enjoy it in peace, along with softball, basketball, and tennis courts open to the public to get your sport on I come here at least once a week to read my book under a tree, I'm thankful to have such a beautiful park so close, thank you Northridge!

Dirt fields! Where is the grass to whoever is in charge and why can you guys not fix the field?

I am going to have to give this park one star. I'd give it zero if I could. BAD MANAGEMENT! PLEASE DO NOT HAVE YOUR CHILDREN PLAY SPORTS HERE. First things first the entire field and area that the kids are supposed to play in has pot holes and barley any grass. How do they expect kids to play soccer and sports in the dirt? Not to mention how disorganized everything is here. Picture day is all over the place along with this weird opening ceremony. The kids aren't even allowed to pick their own team names where other places you are allowed to. I thought this was AYSO until l recently I realized it's parks and rec. I had a bad experience with a coach who was crazy and quite frankly just ghetto trying to get violent, and even though several parents made complaints against this same coach previously nothing was done. I am not sure who is in charge here or why they are in charge when they do not do their job. There are zero policies or protocols that are set in place or enforced. A coach is supposed to be someone the kids can look up to, not some crazy aggressive person. The refs are not trained properly and do not know what they are doing. This girl ref is always lost and confused and can't even make decent calls. I heard Mason park has AYSO and that's definitely where my son will be playing from now on. The new director sucks, the old director was much better with keeping up with the park and being in charge of the sports. There are homeless people that sleep and pee in the park it's just nasty. I grew up here and have been coming here since I was a kid but wow have I seen this park change for the worst! It's sad that this is what our tax dollars get us. This park needs someone who cares because the man in charge is lazy and clearly does not.

Staff enforces mask wearing and wipes are available to wipe down your equipment. AND PEOPLE ACTUALLY DO IT!!? What?! Everyone re-racks the weights and plates properly, and there are plenty of squat racks and benches. They have a track to run on as well as a HIIT area on the upper floors. There is also an area to do abs and stretching. They offer private pilates, Zumba, and yoga classes. Not to mention that they have an incredible rock climbing wall. This place is luxurious and spacious, and I'm not mad about probably ~50% of my tuition going to its maintenance and upkeep. Only thing that bothers me about the SRC is that they have such limited hours around the holidays. For example, this past weekend following Thanksgiving, they were only open from 10-2 pm. They are also closed from Dec 25- Jan 1, which I guess is understandable. But then again they are closed the week before the spring semester starts. It makes me feel like if I wanted to work out during those times, I need to purchase a separate gym membership somewhere else (which I do not want to do). Also, keep in mind that if you want to rock climb, you have to come at certain times as well, when the rock climbing staff are there. They really need to bring back the guest passes! Especially if that guest was an alumnus. And if they are going to charge $180 a semester for alumni gym membership, maybe make it worth it by not randomly closing down a couple weeks before the semester starts.

It's usually fairly calm when we begin our workouts in this area, the fields are empty and quiet. It's peaceful and the solitude is tranquil. I assume when many matches, games, practices etc are taking place the vibe is different. My son loves this area while I don't typically gravitate towards it much anymore, unless I'm with him. I've grown quite comfy heading right out my front door for upwards of 20mile runs (with out and back routes) but I used to like lapping a place several times. I just don't see the point in driving a car to a place to do what I can do from home. I'd almost rather run here from my neighborhood do a lap or two and run home but I don't typically run West of home. My son and I spend time together here, whether it be running or taking 7-15mile walks (he rucks carrying anywhere from 35-55lbs and I'll typically carry about 20 ounces of water ;) when I go along on these with him. It's a nice area and it gets the job done. I enjoy our time here, its a sensory and pavement change from some of my other routes and we cover a decent amount of ground in one lap (a little over 7miles). If you are looking for a place to get out and long run or walk for hours in a certain area with very few traffic lights I recommend it. It's also a lovely area to just toss out a blanket to meditate, enjoy a meal, stretch or read a book. While there's a ton of greenery and trees there are spots of heavy exposure, so always wear a hat or sunscreen and bring water if you require it. Bathrooms are scarce. Parking is plentiful.

After past the hour mark, it started getting more full and groups were waiting outside the court. Regardless, my boyfriend and I were super happy to have finally checked out this new park after hearing about it from my roommates. Also want to note that the spot has a large stage and ampitheatre-like set-up and we would love to see if there are any community events that pop up here. The sign of the park also just says Porter Ranch Community Park even though it says differently online. Hopefully the name confusion can be fixed.
