Grandma Nell's, to me, is more like a boutique (without the clothing), kind of upscale, where Riverfront Antiques is an actual antique store. Riverfront Antiques to me is more of a classic antique store. Everything from larger furniture, to vendor booths with smalls, to an upstairs room with crusty, dusty, and rusty items. It's well organized and while I didn't buy anything here it's a place I could see checking in on once in a while if I was in the area... I imagine inventory changes now and then with each vendor. The one thing I didn't like. The woman at the counter was on the phone from the minute I walked over from Grandma Nell's to the time I walked out the door to exit Riverfront Antiques. And I was in there for quite a while... I didn't try to listen so it very well could have been a business call. It's just a pet peeve I have so it's something I notice. Like if I'm at the counter at Dunkin' and they are taking care of the people in the drive through first while I'm standing there. Like... Hey! I'm right here! Maybe at least acknolwedge a guy? Hopefully it was just a one off while I happened to be there... From an antiquing standpoint... Definitely worth the time to stop if you are in the Clinton IA area!

Well gosh, you need to too! The store is several rooms chocked full of true antiques, plus lots of interesting vintage items, and even an area with (new) amazing candles. Apparently Suzanne, the friendly and charming owner, got the collecting bug from her father. This store is in part, a tribute and honor to him (check out the framed newspaper article by the cash register). Suzanne is delightful and I found the prices extremely fair. While I needed, planned on nothing, I went home with several items. The gorgeous stained glass lampshade was (OMG OMG) only $12.00! And instead of looking for a lamp based, I decided to simply display as a 'bowl'. Suzanne, you will definitely be seeing me on my next trip to Dixon. I thought it was a garage…read moresale outside, since I am a city slicker passing through - Turns out this place has tanning, consignment on clothing, coffee/bakery, salon and nails all in one large home. I checked out the gently used clothing they had and seen they have a lot of name brands like abercrombie* the gap, coach purses.... I tried the coffee and think the girl could've did a better job at making my mocha latte, because it was too sugary, but there was a lot of flavors from peanut butter to peppermint. Other than that, I tried a pastry which was a botterscotch chex mix, very sweet and delicious. I spend my summers at a nearby town, so I def want to check out their services on nails - it will be closer than driving all the way to chicago.

Very personable and friendly. I had a great time just visiting with him even if I hadn't bought anything. The shop is an old Victorian style house (supposedly haunted...see pic of article from the Gateway). The first and second floors are laid out like a typical house. Each room showcasing a selection of merchandise. There are some locked cases on the first floor you will need to ask staff to unlock. Typical setup as any other antique shop. I found some old vintage pocket knives that had belonged to the current owner's husband that I was able to buy at a very reasonable price and a Keen Kutter pocket knife that was a little more expensive... There was a Keen Kutter Kutlery display case upstairs that I would have loved to have taken home... ! It was pretty big, we had no room, and it was $400. The selection of items here ranges from retro, some modern, to vintage or antique. Clothes, hard goods, some larger furniture, and a lot of smalls... You definitely get a kind of creepy vibe on the second floor, but not that much different than any other old home from that era... My maternal grandparents lived in a very similar house. The upstairs always seems strangely quiet to where you hear every creak and groan of the aging construction, you hear the wind when it's blowing, and the temp varies from downstairs and from room to room. We didn't meet "Helen"...and I'm okay with that.
