A hidden gem in Orr
We had an outstanding experience at Northland Lodge that I have to write about. When I called to make our reservation, I mentioned my son is in a wheelchair and needed to make sure they could accommodate him -- no hesitation at all, they took care of it without making it a big deal.
When we arrived, Jeff came out of the restaurant, spotted me, and said "Hey Chris" like we were old friends. I turned around, we shook hands -- that kind of personal welcome is rare these days and it set the tone for the whole meal.
The food backed it up completely. The prime rib was genuinely one of the top 3 I've had in my life, and I've eaten at Lawry's -- that's the bar I'm measuring against. The relish tray had these cucumbers that were somehow outstanding, which sounds like a small thing but stuck with me. And the poke cake for dessert was better than any I've had -- moist, well-balanced, not the least bit gimmicky. As someone who spent 20 years as a classically trained chef, that's not a compliment I give out easily.
