Northland Shopping Centre is the northern suburbs answer to Eastland, Southland (see the theme there) and Highpoint (which really should be called Westland don't you think?) It's really just a huge shopping mall. Love them or hate them, at these large malls you will find many of the brands you love, lots of entertainment and food shopping in one place. Spend hours here, or minutes. Either way you will spend. Northland's most recent reinvention see's a new food precinct, extended fashion mall and reinvented food court as well as the revamp of over 300 retail stores. The main chains have stayed on. Coles, Safeway, Myer, Kmart, Lincraft and Hoyts mix with new comers JB Hifi and Target. The mix of fashion, electronics, food, home wares and gift ware is well balanced and the layout while confusing like most large shopping centres, is one level only which limits the chances of your getting lost. Shopping malls will always attract a range of people from the community so I think Northlands reputation is largely undeserved. If you don't like shopping malls you won't like Northland. But if you are looking for a large shopping centre in the northern suburbs then your choices are here and Doncaster, depending on the stores you need. read more
Northland is a large shopping centre in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. It has most of the large chain stores (Coles, Safeway, Kmart, Target etc) as well as a number of food shops, clothing shops and other shops with various knick-knacks that you may wish to buy. Its the type of place where you can spend hours and is a great place to go in sweltering heat if you are too much of a tightarse to get an airconditioner... While I can not bear to say that I am a "fan" of Northland, I do quite like going there and I can always get a lot done there with so many different shops to visit. My favourite/regular Northland experience involes a quick stop at Coles, then accross the corridor for a sushi and then next door to the cheap hairdresser if I need a hair cut, then walk up and have a quick sniff in the book shop and then up to Target and finally done to the other food court and to the ABC shop to look at the dvds.... Really quite rivetting stuff!!! Anyway, in a nutshell, its basically just a big shopping centre. There is nothing particularly interesting about it but its a useful place to know about and a good place to get quite a lot of jobs done all together. read more
Well, so it has come down to this - reviewing a shopping centre. Why, do you ask, am I reviewing a shopping centre where there are so many other wonderful things to review in Melbourne. I guess it has something to do with it being the next on my list of things to review. Okay, shopping centres are all right - actually they are quite handy because you do have pretty much everything under one roof, but it doesn't beat the good old-fashioned shopping strip. Northland was my local centre, that is until I moved, and I would come down here every so often, usually to see a movie. They added a new outdoor food court, which was good, and they have a large homemaker centre across the road. The bad thing about the place though is that unless you have a car it is only accessible by bus, which makes it annoying if you find yourself here after 9:30 at night. At least they moved the bus stops closer to the cinemas so you didn't have to walk all the way round outside when they movie finished and the shopping centre had closed. read more
