Pride Promoters Park in Coral Springs may be small, but its recent renovation has transformed this…read morehalf acre neighborhood park into a special recreational space. Originally built in the 1990s, the park is named after the local civic group Pride Promoters, which formed in the late 1980s to organize neighborhood beautification campaigns and encourage community pride in some of the city's older residential areas. At just half an acre, Pride Promoters Park fits the definition of a pocket park, a small public space designed to provide outdoor recreation and gathering opportunities within a neighborhood. Despite its compact size, the newly renovated park offers an impressive range of amenities, including public art, an accessible playground, renovated basketball court, outdoor fitness equipment, benches, picnic tables, shaded areas, pavilions, and an open play area. The renovation was estimated to cost $345,000, including $225,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funding. The project took a little longer than originally planned, with the reopening delayed while the new asphalt basketball court was completed and allowed to cure before its surface was painted. What I especially like about this renovation is how much was accomplished in such a small space. The improvements make the park more functional and inviting while giving nearby residents a place to play, exercise, relax and spend time outdoors. Pride Promoters Park is a great example of how even a tiny neighborhood park can have a big impact. With its new amenities and welcoming design, this little pocket park has been elevated into something truly special for the Coral Springs community.

Emerald Hills has several lovely parks including this one. Park amenities include a large dog park, gazebo, open green space, picnic areas, walking path, and a large, modern playground that was installed two years ago. This is her first public exhibit in the U.S. If you want to learn more about her, she has a huge following and is on IG under her name. REFLECTION is 25 feet long and 8 feet tall and is made of concrete. The sculpture honors the women who served in the US Coast Guard Women's Reserve of World War II. REFLECTION shows a half-face lying on its side, the full face seen then in the reflection on the water. It is an amazing piece, very meaningful, and a new treasure for Miami Beach and Miami art lovers. I'm so glad that we decided to take a walk today and find her. Parking is close by on the street. We pulled into 74th street off Collins and parked for free there. You just need to drive around in the area for a bit and have patience. It will be well worth it because the path to the beach and Miami Beach Boardwalk are right there also. There are many restaurants and bars in the area to experience if you get hungry or thirsty.

The Village of El Portal is a charming half-square-mile community in Miami-Dade County that was…read moreincorporated in 1937. Its name comes from the Spanish words meaning "The Gate," inspired by two large wooden gates that once marked the village entrance but were taken down in the 1940's. El Portal's modern history began during the collapse of Miami's real estate boom when it was annexed into the City of Miami in 1925 but with the arrival of the Great Depression, Miami gave it up its jurisdiction and El Portal was incorporated as its own village. Three small subdivisions Sherwood Forest, El Jardín ("The Garden"), and El Portal were merged to form the village, which is located about six miles north of downtown Miami. One of the village's most significant historical landmarks is the Sherwood Forest Indian Mound, located near NE 85th Street. This four-foot high ancient burial mound dates to approximately 600 AD and is recognized as the first archaeological site in Miami Dade County to be publicly preserved. For more than 50 years, El Portal has also been designated by the State of Florida as a bird sanctuary, helping protect its abundant wildlife. The designation means that the village's birds and trees are safeguarded from harm. One place you can see them is the El Portal Nature Trail a short, paved walkway that runs behind the Dr. Marvin Dunn Academy for Community Education. The trail features benches, outdoor fitness equipment, and a StoryWalk for children. While it isn't very long, it's a pleasant place to enjoy a walk surrounded by nature. During my visit, I spotted a bright red cardinal. Many people believe cardinals are a sign that a loved one who has passed away is nearby, offering comfort and a reminder that they are safe and at peace. Whether or not you believe the legend, their vibrant red feathers always brighten my day and made my walk even better.
