    Wide Open Property Maintenance

I've lived in my condo since it was built. For years the grounds were beautiful and well kept but…read moresince the condo board switched to Wide Open Property Maintenance it has become a hideous weed farm. It's upsetting to look at daily, and embarrassing when guests come over and asked what happened to the grounds. Stay away from these clueless weed farmers, they're destroyers.

I used Brian Lily of Wide Open Property Maintenance for eight years, severing that business…read morerelationship at the end of the 2021 season because of his dishonest business practices. I was Brian's first customer when he started his lawn service and property maintenance business. At that point in time and for the next few years he did a beautiful job, took pride in his work and was very responsive and prompt in dealing with any problems that arose. Those characteristics began to slowly decline at about four years into the business relationship with him and has grown to the point of lying, stealing, refusing to deal with property damage he has caused and refusing to respond or return phone calls requesting fixes to his poor work. I worked with Brian for the next few years because I knew he was capable of doing wonderful work but it became apparent to me that he had no intensions of returning to honesty providing the services he was being paid to perform. His entire game plan seemed to be one of lying about the work he had done and trying to gaslight me into believing that he had done the work correctly. Last fall was the final straw. I contracted him to clean my gutters as I had done for every prior year he had worked for me. He had not responded to several of my messages and put off the work for a month. He would not even answer me when I asked if he would have the time to do the work. I finally sent him a message asking him to just let me know if he planned on cleaning the gutters and, if not, I would go about finding someone else to do the work. He did not respond but did show up at my house a week or so later. I heard him pull up to my house and was relieved that he was going to get the gutters cleaned out. I walked into my kitchen to write him a check. I heard him pull away and looked out to the street. He was gone. I thought that he may have had a pressing situation to deal with and hoped that he would return later in the day. Within minutes I received a text from him saying that he had cleaned the gutters! I'm assuming he thought that I wasn't home because I had parked my vehicle in the garage the night before, where I usually park in the drive during nice weather. I was completely stunned at his claim that he had cleaned the gutters! I got a ladder out and checked the gutter around my sunroom because I wanted to be able to answer him and allow him to know I checked on his claim of doing the work. There was debris and leaves still there in that gutter. I sent him a text stating what I had found and he responded by saying that he didn't think the debris in the sunroom gutter was hurting anything! I was left with no choice but to confront him on the fact that he was lying about doing the work he had done and was trying to dishonestly mislead me into paying for work that wasn't performed. He would not respond to the text. He knew he was caught red handed but never made any attempt to right his lies. He just wouldn't respond. Leading up to this final incident of dishonesty, there were a number of other situations that occurred with Brian and hat inspired me to start keeping a calendar of the dates he worked and the services her performed because I had a very strong suspicion hat he was lying about the work he was doing but had no actual proof. Other situations with Brian were more blatant and he would try to gaslight his way through those. During the 2020 season I contracted Brian to mulch my flower beds as I had done for several seasons. He charged me one hundred dollars for those services for that work and I felt that was a fair price. However, in 2020 he installed about one fourth inch of mulch and the mud an bare ground was still visible through the mulch. When I told Brian that the mulching job needed to be completed he began his gaslighting routine. He insisted that the mulch was done appropriatly and said it was done to mulching standards. At that point in time I had a lot going on in my life and I just didn't have the time or energy to deal with his actions. I hired another company to do the work the following year and knew I would have to keep a closer eye on the work Brian was trying to pass off as appropriate. During that same season there was an additional issue with Brian's work and ethical practices that was very concerning to me. I have always done my own lawn fertilizing and was content to continue doing that work until Brian started asking to take on that job for me. I told him that the fertilization of the grass was an important step in keeping the yard looking well maintained but if he felt he could do that work, I would be happy to turn that job over to him. I also told him, in no uncertain terms, that if he found himself lacking time to do the fertilizations to let me know. I would go back to doing that task myself. He agreed to do that but felt confident that he could provide that service. I need more space to finish this complaint and resolution
