The rate they quote on the telephone is…read morepurposefully misleading, and reflects a PER PERSON rate, not a hourly rate, and they do not tell you how many people they are sending to do the work. Additionally, they will invoice you (without telling you) for cost-of doing-business expenses such as travel time to and from their other jobs, and for fuel, even if it is not warranted by the distance they travel to get to your home. They also charge additional fees for materials, removal, disposal and others, which they purposefully do not disclose to customers to agree to receive their services. The manager, Mell, does not seem to understand basic principles of decent customer service and claims that if you are happy with the work they did, which we were, that they reserve the right to charge whatever they think is fair. We ended up with a bill twice what we were quoted for labour and instead of acknowledging they have some work to do in the customer service department, they threaten you. Pretty terrible experience.

I hired Asbestos Abatement to remove asbestos-contaminated vermiculite from my attic and reinsulate…read morethe attic. I asked that it be reinsulated to an R60 value. The work was carried out, but once it was finished, the attic space was no longer accessible or usable. As a layperson, I had no idea what depth of cellulose insulation would be required to achieve R60. Instead of explaining to me that the insulation would overtop the attic floor joists, the contractor just went ahead and built up the perimeter of the attic hatch and filled 'er up. When I registered my displeasure with this lack of regard for customer service, AA offered nothing by way of service recovery. Now, if I ever want to renovate my attic into a more usable space--which was the main motivation for removing the asbestos in the first place--I'll have to pay someone else to remove a whole lot of cellulose.
