The Springfield Ambulance Service brought me to the ER since I was feeling very ill while shopping at Goodwill. I nearly passed out. I spent a good deal of time in the Bathroom(one can imagine) but was too weak to get up. The ambulance workers were wonderful and I felt I was in great hands. When I arrived in the ER I was met with gentleness and kindness. Immediately seen by a wonderful group of medical people. They worked quickly and efficiently to get testing done so that I could get diagnosed. No matter what was asked by me they were always close by to help. Words can not express my thankfulness. These people are a great part of this hospital. The ER is your front door and if these people come across rushed or rude it can make a stay rememberable to not return there. I recently had the worst experience at the ER here, and specifically with Dr. Gross (dark skin, dark hair). I went in with severe abdominal pain. I couldn't stand upright, couldn't walk without extreme pain and nausea and I have a very high pain threshold, and am generally a pretty stoic person. I went to the ER, and pretty much immediately felt dismissed. I had this feeling that Dr. Gross thought I was drug seeking, which was further evidenced by my records when I accessed them the next day on the Patient Portal, which showed that he did a drug screen. I never once asked for pain meds. To be honest, the pain was so bad, that I didn't one time think that there was anything that could help other than to get to the bottom of what was happening. I just wanted to know what was wrong. I also get that sometimes these assumptions can be based on appearances and patient presentation. But I am a 46 year old professional female, in great health and shape, and know how to interact in the real world. And aside from being in horrible pain, I presented myself as such. My blood work showed an infection of some sort. The CT scan report which I read the next day in the Patient Portal showed diverticulitis. However 2 hours after the CT results and blood work were in (I could see the time on the portal when I looked the next day), I finally asked the nurse if my results were back yet and she told me that the doctor would be in to talk to me in a few minutes. Dr. Gross came in and the first words he said were very terse and that he was discharging me in a way that felt like I was just making it all up. He said nothing about my test results, nothing. When I asked HIM, he said that my CT was fine and that aside from high WBC, everything was fine, and that my high WBC was probably due to stress. I hobbled away in the same awful pain that I walked in with, feeling very defeated, and honestly really confused. He had said that he'd call in antibiotics and anti-nausea meds, but he never did. When I called the ER the next day to ask about the prescriptions that were supposed to be called in, the nurse said she saw where Dr. Gross said in the notes that I needed to take the meds as prescribed, but he never sent them in. She said that the only way for me to get these prescriptions was to come back to the ER to see a different provider as Dr. Gross wasn't on that day. This experience kept me from even wanting to go back to any ER even though I was still in severe pain. I'm not trying to be dramatic here, but it's hard to explain how much I was about to try and ignore the serious nature of what was actually going on due to the treatment here. At my husbands insistence, I went to the Vanderbilt ER the next day. Thank GOD! Not only did I have diverticulitis, but also an abscess with a small perforation in my colon which required emergency surgery. I was under the knife within an hour to remove the sigmoid part of my colon. It could have been SO much worse, and I'm so grateful to the staff at Vanderbilt for taking my complaints seriously, treating me with respect, empathy and kindness, and getting to the bottom of a serious situation despite the fact that they were so incredibly busy. You will NEVER see me or anyone I love and care about step foot in this hospital again. This isn't our first issue with Tri-Star, but it's certianly the nail in the coffin for me. There is something systemically wrong with this place that Dr. Gross was allowed to act in this manner, not even read CT results, not call in meds, and make grossly inaccurate assumptions. Speaking to the systemic issues here, I should have picked up on it at the first moment that a nurse took me back to my to my room. I could literally barely walk, and she was Olympic style speed walking through winding halls. I told her "I'm sorry, I'm moving pretty slow" she shouted back to me "it's okay" and kept winding through halls at an insane speed. I finally had to ask the janitor (who was very kind) how to get to room 5 as she had left me in the dust. I don't know what's going on at this place, but it's systemic and toxic. Don't go here, and don't let your loved one go here either. read more

I went to Northcrest ER Bc I was in so much pain from several bladder stones. Mind you there wasn't hardly anyone at the ER. I waited for 4-5 hours for lab work & cat scan & IV needle put In my arm. They literally did nothing for me. no fluids, no meds, no nothing. I've got a horrible spinal disease that was causing severe pain along with the bladder issues. Yet still nothing was done to help me. They called in antibiotics but I can't get them until tomorrow . This was inexcusable behavior & they need to do better by their patients. For a patient with PTSD or any mental health issue, the ER at Northcrest is the epitome of unsafe, a tour de force of ineptness. You can literally, and I mean literally, get better advice on how to deal with a PTSD sufferer via WebMD or Wikipedia than by observing Northcrest's protocol. My experience was degrading, dehumanizing, traumatizing, and the embodiment of every stigma that surrounds my condition. Avoid this ER at all costs, and I can't advise this strongly enough. Also, if they point you toward their "patient advocacy department", don't waste your time or energy. The person you'll communicate with will avoid obvious objective truths, advocating against, excusing, and rationalizing away your experience. In other words, they aren't advocating for the patient. They're advocating for Northcrest and trying to cover the hospital's ass. read more

The following is Ambers account of the abuse and malpractice provided to her for extreme pain in her time of need and help. Saturday the 11th approximately 1am: Amber has extreme mouth pain after a week of trying to treat with ice and heat herself goes to Tristar for help with the pain driven by her Niece Aliza (witness). In 9-10 pain range crying Amber shows up and enters the hospital and checks in the er. Finally gets brought back to exam Amber where a lady nurse checks her vitals. Some time passes and a Doctor with dark skin and black hair comes into the exam room seemingly already agitated before even entering the room. Amber told him her mouth hurts where her teeth were pulled out some time ago and have spent a week using hot and cold compress, sucking on ice, Ibuprofen and a topical numbing agent. Dr. takes a tongue depressor aggressively and examines her mouth against her gums. Dr belittling her tells her there aren't even any teeth there even after she just had told him. Amber continued to be in pain and crying and Dr became upset or aggravated with her pain and sarcastically said " We can just go grab a big needle and numb your mouth" almost in a threatening or trying to scare her. She replied she would happily take the needle in her mouth to please stop the pain. Dr leaves the room and talks to a nurse about the shot sarcastically in the hall right outside the room where Amber can see. Instead of a shot the nurse comes back with cotton balls soaked in topical numbing agent which amber had already used. Because Amber had already taken this approach earlier in the day and caused bad inflammation so she denied the topical cream with cotton balls and inquired about the shot the Dr just said he could give. She rudely said there is no shot. After being lied to, treated rudely, and no help with pain Amber left the hospital to come home to seek help from someone at home. There were no prescriptions paperwork or anything taken or filled out by Amber even though the Dr claims to have prescribed her something for this night. Sunday afternoon (the next day): After still being in pain now and have taken no pain medications Amber and her husband came back again to Tristar for help again. We were taken back to the exam room and were seen by a different Dr who had light skin and short hair. Perhaps a nurse was nice, examined her gently and prescribed Amber with pain meds and antibiotics. Amber was still in terrible pain and crying the entire time and didn't want pain pills but at this point we felt we had no other choice so we did as told and left. While in agony we drove to the CVS that was open and had her take one pill as directed by the dr. After waiting over an hour for the pain meds to work we went back to the hospital for ask why the pain wouldn't stop. In the waiting room Amber is literally screaming in agony and pain. This time before even going to the exam room the dark skinned black hair Dr comes out to the waiting rooms and again mad for some reason yells "I will not see her! He was extremely rude as Amber was crying in pain so I begged him with tears in my eyes to please help us or tell us where to go if you cant. He looked at me and shrugged as if there was nowhere and no help she could have. Once again I begged him to help my wife who is crying and in severe pain to help us and he "replied you can have her wait but there isn't anything he can do. We waited.... We're finally brought back now for the 3rd time in 48hrs for my wife and her pain. The black haired dark skin Dr walks in the door and before he can even open the door all the way my wife lets out a wail. No NOT HIM please! The Dr replies CALL SECURITY...Get her out of here. We are escorted by security who both are rude and go out into the parking lot where Amber begins screaming in physical and emotional pain having visited three times and being treated horribly. I literally drag her off the grounds into my truck to get her to help while she is still screaming in pain. Eventually the pains gets so bad that Amber starts begging me to hurt her or kill her to make the pain stop. With no hope and nowhere to go I called the police 911 to ask them to please make the hospital take her and help her. The police show up and say there is nothing they can do to make the hospital take her unless she is a harm to others or herself. The police ask her if she wants to hurt herself and she replies somebody hurt me or help me out of desperation thinking being hurt in some other way would dilute the pain she was going through. The Police say we can take her in to me. To my surprise they handcuff my wife and reply its procedure as she asked "am i in trouble?" they said no and brought her to the back of the hospital. The cops would not let me go with her and did not read her any rights of any kind. The first set of doctors I see I was talked to as though I was making a big deal about my pain very unprofessional, judgmental, and sassy her and the woman studying under her, I was not shown any of my x-rays for my ribs or back my ribs are jammed far up my right shoulder blade and they told my there was nothing wrong with me even though no one examined my back and looked at how far my shoulder blade is raised than the other. They rushed every moment all they care about is a paycheck and I will never go there again its always something with them, Thank you! read more

Poor care and undiagnosed UTI in father in law which lead to a far more serious kidney infection diagnosed at Skyline in Madison after we had to remove him AMA. My father in law is 88 years old, when an elderly person exhibits signs of confusion or altered mental status the number one thought is a UTI. This isn't rocket science. I explained right off he isn't talking right, this behavior is not normal and the nurse on duty let me know "well, he's been this way since I came on earlier. It seems pretty normal." I was a former medic, therefor I do not like to press my medical background onto other medical professionals, it's rude, there for I did not mention it when I suggested he be tested for a UTI. What is more baffling is that seems like it should be standard procedure in a male, 88 years old with and altered mental status and very little output of fluid. Especially when the family is pressing his behavior isn't normal.' He also had slurred speech which is indicative of high ammonia levels which can be fatal. NOT impressed. Skyline was far more aggressive and attentive to what we explained and our concerns. read more

Took my Mom there for her yearly mammogram, and while there someone hit her car. Police report was filed and after 2 phone calls to "Plant Operations" as suggested by hospital 'security' the next day, to request video footage investigation. After no call backs as promised by previous 2 people who took my information and promised a call back and delivery of messages to "Troy", on my 3rd call, I finally reached "Troy". I was told that they have no camera monitoring that parking area. When I asked about the camera on the corner of the building at the Emergency entrance area that was directly behind us less that 50 feet away completely in view of the handicapped parking spaces, I was told that camera isn't functional. My next call was to "Hospital Administration". I got voicemail. My call was returned soon afterwards, but I was told that there's nothing that they can do and that they're not responsible for their own parking lot. The woman rudely compared my expectations as the equivalent of her "going to Walmart". At least the 'security' cameras at Walmart ARE functional and have been used in investigations to law enforcement activity. read more

Waited for 2 hours for a urinalysis. Literally waited over 2 hours to pee in a cup? I don't think I need to say anything else. The front desk staff was rude and not attentive at all. They have sliding windows and they always seem annoyed to talk you to. They will stare at you and ignore you for a couple of seconds before they decide if they open the window or not. One receptionist even had a friend come in and chit chat at the counter for about 10 minutes. The nurse who did the urinalysis was sweet though. I don't live in this area and hope I never have to come here again, let alone for something more serious. read more

Went to the ER for kidney pain, haven't went to the doctors for anything since I needed shots for school so you know it was bad. Got some type of IV medicine for the pain and a urine test showing blood in my urine. Was told I had kidney stones. Gave me a prescription for 10 pain killers and sent on my way 3 hours later. Paid $100 there, a $600 bill that came a week later and then another $1100 dollar bill a few weeks after that. I had a 3 month gap in insurance thanks to changing back to my old employment so luckily they have a "$1000 discount" for uninsured people or I would've been even more angry. The $1000 dollar bill was for the "physician" that seen me, seems like they would include that with the first bill but I guess they think they lll just ease into stealing from you read more

I came to the ER with my son and I. He was very sick and I was struggling with a lot of things as well. They have given medication to me and my son. And plans did change and my other kid had to get to school. The one thing is that a nurse came in here telling me that she had to bend rules, telling me that I lied to her, telling me I was putting my son at risk, and also telling me that I would get a DUI. So this really bothered me because for one I have two kids and plans always change no matter what. So if Northcrest does not contact me I will be making a YouTube video with my over million subscribers. And you all will definitely regret it. When someone tells me I'm a bad mom or I'm putting my kid at risk just to get a snack. You messed up. And the RN's name is Megan. The doctor and everyone else was so kind it was just the nurse that wasn't. read more

I went to northcrest because I had a fever of 104.5. They did bloodwork, urine sample, mono test, told me that I had a kidney infection then kept me over night. Told me everything looked normal minus my urine. They said my mono test was negative. They sent me home on antibiotics for a kidney infection. They told me if my fever gets high again come back. That night i came back with temperature of 104.8 which they took me back. Put a IV in took more blood work and tested me again for mono and came back negative. They was gonna send me home then wanted to do a cat scan. I told them no I want to go to Vanderbilt. They made me sign a release form. I went to Vanderbilt and they did blood work, urine sample and a mono test. Keep in mind this is the same night I was tested at northcrest and was negative. Vanderbilt test me for mono and it comes back positive. read more

I went to the Care Center with potential strep throat. I had pustules on my uvula and the sides of my throats and I was in pain. My provider, Stacy, would not prescribe anything until the culture came back from the lab. After waiting for three days, I called and asked if they had gotten my results back and told them that I was still in extreme pain and the infection was getting worse. Still no antibiotic. I then went to another doctor and she immediately ordered a shot and a broad spectrum antibiotic. I felt much better within 48 hours. I got a call from the Care Center eleven days after I had seen them with the results of my culture. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I will never go there again and Stacy, the provider ( I say that with great sarcasm) is a terrible practitioner, probably the absolute bottom of his class. If you are sick, go to the urgent care clinic on Memorial Blvd. or just wait until you are sick enough to go the ER. At least then you will be treated. read more

This is the worst hospital in the state! Do not go to the ER for ANYTHING! The wait is always long, even if you're the only one there, the medical staff are rude and extremely lacking in bedside manner, even with children. And they are notorious for misdiagnosis. The financial department is equally bad. They sent s a bill for the ER, we paid, but they neglected to send us a physician's bill, so we never even knew we had one. Until YEARS LATER! Then they send it straight to an attorney for collection. We almost were denied a home loan because of it. How the ---- are you supposed to pay a bill if you don't know it exists? The ONLY praise that I have to give this hospital is the amazing Labor & Delivery ward. They are incredible there. The ER should really take note. I will never bring my family here again, even if it's dire. I would rather risk it and travel further for someone who really does care about the people. read more

Nasty staff. Said I was looking for drugs. I heard the doctor laugh with the nurses about it, while I was in the waiting room. I was asked to wait out there. She said quote, "he ain't getting what he wants so he's not coming back." I was embarrassed. I waited two hours, to be harassed about drugs my last doc said I had to be on. I hated it. But yeah that's what I was looking for treatment. Rude. Discriminatory. Long waits. There's no other doctors in the area. I don't give a flying fart. I'd rather die. read more
