Once upon a time I lived in this apartment building for over 6 years (I just moved out September 2006) and let me help you out by being very clear about a few things. The location is great, the rooftop deck view will take your breath away, and the building management totally SUCKS. Let me set the stage for you. If you call the building manager to report a problem they won't pick up the phone and when you leave a message they won't return your call. You'll have to call them several times before they even respond and then you better be ready for a laundry list of excuses why they can't get to it for a few weeks. Like one time the fan which vents air and moisture out of my windowless bathroom broke. It took the building manager 8 weeks to fix it and after 5 weeks of no action I finally had to call her out and tell her I was going to start deducting money off my rent check if it wasn't fixed ASAP. In the end, after it was fixed and she realized the vent was simply clogged with dust, she tried to blame me for not vacuming it out often enough. Hello, this is why I rent. I'm not unscrewing a vent fan and crawling into the ceiling to clean that out. File under THIS IS KIND OF STUFF MY RENT CHECK PAYS FOR SMARTY. And then another time I pulled into the garage and discovered a foreign car parked in my parking space. Since I had been parking in the same ASSIGNED PARKING SPACE for six plus years I was a little perplexed but assumed someone was just being stupid and decided to go ahead and park where ever they damn well pleased. My first thought was to block them in with my car. But the garage is tight and I would have had to block other cars as well. My second thought was to call the building manager, which I did, but I simply got voicemail. My third thought was to leave a note on the car asking them to move it and then park my car out on the street until they moved. In the meantime, my husband and I were in the middle of making an offer on a house, so we ended up moving our car again to meet up with our agent. But before we left, I ran into Sally (http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=wZaLqZ8PppggeII3DhICqQ) and told her the news on both counts. She, of course, was happy about the house news. And her response to the car thing was something along the lines of, "Do you want me to block them in with my car? Because I totally will." Ha. Great minds think alike. When we returned from signing all the paperwork for the offer we pulled into the garage and discovered the car was STILL parked there. So we had to find street parking since someone was PARKED IN MY PARKING SPACE. Argh. The apartment building managers aren't very helpful to say the least. Since they didn't call me back until Monday and this happened on Saturday it wasn't much use for them to even call me back. As it turns out the building manager told the strange car to park there because they couldn't seem to recall THAT I'VE PARKED IN THAT SAME EXACT SPACE FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS. I was also advised to park in two other spaces if that happened again. As it turns out one of the spaces she told me to park in IS ALSO ASSIGNED so I called her back to let her know space #36 is already assigned and she shouldn't be telling people to park there or the same problem is going to happen again to someone else in my apartment building. She asked if I knew the name of the person who parks in that space. Isn't that her job to know that? I told her no, but described the car and gave her the license plate. Very professional Ms. Buidling Manager. Needless to say, I was thrilled when I finally moved and didn't have to put up with those no brains anymore. P.S. I left a note on the car parked in my space that said "Move your car or it will be towed". When the building manager called me back she told me "the girl parked in your space was very offended the nasty note you left". That's funny. Because if the girl was smart she would be very offended that you can't do your job. P.P.S. It could have been worse. Sally and I both had the brilliant idea to use lipstick to write the note directly on her windshield. I resisted that urge. I'm glad about that. Karma. My fiancé and I moved here about 8 months ago and we loved it at first site! It has the best views of the City from our private deck! When you get to the community roof deck it's the most incredible site you've ever seen. Beautiful lake union, the Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges, 360 degrees of breathtaking scenery! Brand new appliances and just renovated rooms. The new management that took over this place is like a dream come true! she is absolutely the best and most caring property manager I have ever dealt with in the 20 years Of renting throughout this country. I moved to Northbridge from Kirkland in June. I was shown the unit by the bubbly, kind property manager Jaynie, and immediately fell in love with the view and the feel of community. Jaynie was so accommodating in helping me move in quickly and getting my paperwork in order. She really fosters a strong sense of community and welcomed me home after our first meeting. The property is well maintained and the rooftop deck is the best in the area, with views of Lake Union, downtown, and Mt. Rainier. There is parking under the building which is a huge plus for the area, and ample I cannot begin to express what a wonderful place this is and am so grateful to Jaynie for helping me find such a great place to call home. read more

The apartment is on a highway 99 so naturally you can hear the freeway 24 hours a day. The manager is very passive aggressive and constantly sends messages threatening the entire building for incidents you have no knowledge of. The only thing this place really had going for it was an awesome rooftop. However, in a temper tantrum she has taken roof privileges away from the whole building. Apparently she was displeased with litter and an incident involving a dog. Rather than address whoever was involved, she revoked everyone's privileges and now requires advanced reservations, a formal walk through and $200 deposit to use. So if you've ever had the urge to show a friend your view, BBQ a dinner, or relax in the sun, better arrange that in advance. She also has threatened that the roof is under surveillance so I don't see why she didn't just deal whoever the tenant involved was. She also recently revoked our package delivery privileges. Not sure why...but if you like getting anything mailed to you that doesn't fit in your mailbox, that will have to be sent to work. WORST MANAGEMENT EVER Management illegally raised our rent by over 10% without giving us 60 days notice. She would not return our calls, respond to emails, meet us in person, or discuss over the phone. After exhausting all attempts at communication with her, we paid our original amount of rent since the rent raise was illegal. That got her attention. She immediately responded saying that we owed even more. However, when asked to provide any documentation or explanation to where she got these numbers from, she would not. She then gave us a 3 day pay or vacate notice, citing we owed even more. Our rent was $1400. She raised it to $1600 without 60 days notice. When evicted, she claimed we owed over $1800. We are responsible tenants who have never had an issue or missed a rent payment. We have a paper trail of all required documentation that what she is doing is illegal. She has refused to provide us with any documentation of where she gets any of her numbers from and changes her story every time we talk to her. We have been left with no choice but to take her to small claims court to resolve this. If you don't want to be bullied into paying illegal rent charges and forced to take time out of your schedule to take your landlord to court, you should not live here. I have now heard from 5 other tenants in the building with similar stories. Everyone has said she has made up some reason out of thin air they owe money, and then claimed they have been overdue with a $10 a day fee for months. One person after paying with personal checks for 4 years was informed the personal checks are no longer accepted and their check form a month a half ago was invalid carrying a $10 a day late fee that had grown to $400. One thing is crystal clear, this is a sketchy place where management is pulling a scam to bully tenants out of money. EDIT: We ended up filing a claim and informing them we would be seeing them in court. At that point, they said OK, we won't illegally raise your rent or evict us for standing up for your basic tenants rights. This whole thing was nightmare. MORAL OF THE STORY: This is the kind of place that will illegally overcharge you and duck all forms of communication to resolve discrepancies. When you tell them that's in violation of your tenants rights, they will charge you even more and slap a 3 day pay or vacate notice on you. Where to begin.... If you are considering the this place, run for the hills. The apartments are mediocre at best, cheap appliances and extremely thin walls. One could get over that given the price if not for the management. Jennifer is completely and totally crazy. Like other reviewers have mentioned it's a lot like living in a dorms, only the the RA is a crazily vindictive gossip queen. On top of the gossip, and crazy micromanagement, you can be expect to be shaken down each and every time a lease renewal comes up. Hands down the worst place I have ever lived. read more

I lived in this place a few years back, and lived there long enough to have an opinion or two. Honestly, I never even considered writing a review of this complex until I read the previous (scathing) reviews.... First of all, the building really is great. Clean, very secure, awesome location, and good amenities. When I lived there, it had free WiFi and a basic gym for all residents, secure garage parking that was pretty affordable by Fremont standards, nice appliances like washers and dryers in every unit, and a rooftop deck with good-quality barbecues and an awesome view. I lived in a 2-bedroom and my roommate and I felt like we had enough space to co-exist and didn't have to hear each other's every movement. The closet situation was pretty sparse, limited to only one smallish closet in each bedroom and no hallway/coat closet elsewhere in the unit, but we could make it work. I've paid far more for apartments that were far less pretty and had far less to offer. Second, the management (a couple) treat the building like it's their own home. That means they do all the things to keep a big apartment building nice, like keep it very clean and well-stocked, and take extra efforts like putting up decorations in the courtyard for holidays. But it also means that they're a little too overprotective. I am a private person, and yes, I did feel that the management was a little more "present" than I would like at times. I really felt the boundaries were crossed when I broke a (minor) rule- I was literally hunted down and scolded like a child, which was not cool. I was also weirded out by all of the reprimanding signs that were routinely posted in the garage, above the mailboxes, and throughout the hallways, chastising the residents for all sorts of things that usually happen in a large apartment complex (spilled garbage, loud parties, bringing a pet into the building without permission, blah blah.) I realize that the managers have to take responsibility for running the place and keeping the order, but sometimes it seemed like I was living in a college dorm or a bunker at teen sleepaway camp than an apartment complex for paying adults. The majority of the time, my roommate and I were left alone... but we also followed all of the rules the majority of the time. The few instances in which we did break one of the rules (such as being on the roof deck after 'curfew' - and, yes, the managers did have cameras to catch anyone sneaking up there after hours,) we were immediately confronted in a rather judgmental and threatening way. It reminded me of the time my mom caught me trying to smoke the broken butt of cigarette behind the shed when I was 13. I feel it's a toss-up between living in a place where management takes pride in their property and monitors their tenants closely (if not too closely,) and a place where they don't give a damn what you do but don't do anything to take care of the building, either. The complex has a some decent amenities and it is really very safe and well-kept, so if those things are top priorities for you, it's probably worth the extra burden of dealing with the micro-managing managers. If you'd rather have guaranteed privacy in a place that is a little run-down, Northbridge probably isn't right for you. read more

With so many choices out there to live in Seattle, Northbridge Apartments is a hidden gem! And it is absolutely this way because of Jaynie the manager. My last apartment (The Milan - see reviews) was my first experience with "slum-lords"and until recently when I was able to leave that dark cloud of a nightmare and found Northbridge I took for granted what it means to have a management team that truly has the best intentions for you. Jaynie has made this place a community, where you feel safe, respected and cared for. The neighbors are friendly and the vibe is chill. It's clean, quiet and well looked after. Jaynie and her maintenance crew are AWESOME. They work extremely hard to keep this place running smoothly. I lived here for six months. The managment is absolutely horrible, the floor plans are horrible. our living room wall was shared and it was our neighbors bedroom wall. no insulation, I couldn't ever listen to my stereo. I got a noise complaint on christmas eve for listening to christmas music while wrapping presents. The management is not only unprofessional, they're rude and unpleasant. They will not fix anything and if they do it will not be fixed well. Jeniffer the manager is one the the rudest most indirect people I have ever dealt with. If you want to over pay for a small apartment with crappy insulation and live in a complex with rediculous rules, this is your place! the view is nice but dont let that fool you into thinking anything else is. I've lived in this building for over 2 years and can't POSSIBLY say enough good things about Jennifer OR Pat. Super cool folks, they keep the riff-raff out and take excellent care of the property. I'd like to call attention to Kim H and Mick S above. Those two people are NOT separate tenants. They are in a relationship together, and Kim lived one floor ABOVE me at this property. Mick NEVER lived here. I have to say, I have NEVER had a tenant that made more noise by just walking (more like stomping) through the apartment as SHE did. I live in Apartment 104, and have since December 2008. I lived here before she came along, and I'm still here, same apartment. Both the tenants BEFORE and AFTER her have NEVER generated the kind of noise that SHE did and I freely admit that I complained about the noise NUMEROUS times. Each time she stomped through her apartment (which was everytime she walked), she sounded like a herd of elephants in hot pursuit of the evening meal. I was constantly having to listen to ALL of the light fixtures in my apartment shake and rattle. That, quite frankly is not only ANNOYING, it's downright RUDE. It's also disrespectful to the tenant that lives below her. And for the record, the property managers don't WATCH people on camera for the sake of spying. The roof closes at 10:00 pm. People were constantly going up well after the closure hour and were not only disturbing the people that live directly below the rooftop deck, they were tossing trash over the side and littering up the balconies belonging to these tenants. Now, I don't know about you, but I'd want that to stop if I lived on the 4th floor and had to deal with that kind of disrespectful behavior. This is the only way they were finally able to nail the guilty parties and put a stop to this behavior once and for all. In closing, this is a great place to live. The management is super attentive and I only wish that all of my apartment rental experiences were as good with the management at past residences as it has been at this one. I have lived in many many many apartments over the years, some better, some worse. Despite the poor reviews, I decided to move into Northbridge a couple of weeks ago because new management had just taken over and NeChole was obviously a go-getting dynamo. She is very personable and has high expectations for the quality of the building and apartments and has been working to rectify those things that prior management had let slide. My apartment and view are beautiful, I greatly appreciate the parking garage, my neighbors are quiet and friendly, and there's a ton of businesses within walking distance. Most of the posts here are correct, and despite a somewhat recent change in management, things remain the same. I don't usually write reviews, but felt that if I were shopping for a place,these are the things I would want to know. BUYER BEWARE! Although this building has been plagued with bad management, the true problem trickles up to the current owner of the building. Our previous building manager was arrested on conspiracy charges related to a botched armed robbery attempt on a residence. - (link http://www.kiro7.com/news/two-armed-intruders-who-threatened-kill-north-soun/82197288. The owner thought that it was perfectly acceptable for this individual to continue in her role as property manager, including access to our apartments for over a year! It was not until word got out alerting tenants to the story above, and the Yelp review that called them out on the issue was published, that we received a new manager. Unbelievable. Our previous building manager is now a guest at the Washington Corrections Center for Women in Gig Harbor. The building continues to be a high maintenance place to live, with frustrating management. As mentioned in another post, the access to the roof (the best selling point of the building) was taken away due to isolated instances with specific tenants. This is now the second time roof access has been taken away, yet we continue to pay the same rent as if we did have access. The building manager also recently began refusing to allow UPS and other carriers to leave packages, as there have been issues with theft. Every time we receive an email from her, we wonder what she will take away next? Other problems include the appliances which are low quality and virtually disposable and small closet space. Both managers have been difficult to work with, unprofessional, very emotional about everything and gossipy. Despite the above, the management has started jacking up everyone's rent by hundreds of dollars this year - not because of increases in costs or taxes, but because "they can". They think they can attract Amazon employees who make lots of money and can afford higher rent, and won't be concerned about the loss of amenities because they work all the time. So, if that is you, this building is perfect for you. If they put some effort in to the building, had decent management/ownership, and did not take away the perks, this building would be a good value for the cost. The location is great, the apartments are moderately nice, and the roof is fabulous. (When we have access.) But as it sits now, this owner just wants to make an easy buck. Steer clear! I lived in this apartment building from 2008-2009 (we moved because we left Seattle). Fabulous apartment with fantastic views of Lake Union and downtown both from the rooftop deck (which is complete with tables and grills for tenants' use) and from our apartment's private balcony. The location is perfect, situated within walking distance to both Fremont and Wallingford, and there are 5 bus stops less than one block from the building, making an outing to downtown effortless. In spite of the proximity to so much transportation, street noise is kept to a minimum because none of the apartments face onto busy Aurora. To top it off, the management was wonderful. I truly felt that they went out of their way to welcome us and to create a sense of community for everyone in the building--they even decorated the courtyard for the holiday season! Additionally, they made themselves available via telephone, email, or text messaging, and their responses were practically instantaneous. We never waited longer than 30 minutes for a response for any question or concern that we had, and they worked hard to make sure we were always satisfied with the outcome. I have been living at Northbridge for a few years now. Some highlights are: the apartments are located within walking-distance of many excellent restaurants and neat shops, nearby to local events throughout the year, and offers an picturesque view of Mount Rainier and Lake Union from the roof deck, and much more. Northbridge has developed into a close-knit community of kind neighbors, and a real home; this is thanks to our amazing property manager, Jaynie, who works tirelessly, albeit with a smile, to maintain a peaceful and welcoming environment. It can still be a bit dingy, and I have gone through 3 property managers since I've lived here. This new one is great. The random smells I've experienced in the hallways have gone down, and the first time my roommate sent in a noise complaint it was taken care of instead of before when it took 10 emails before something was weakly done. Hello potential renter. If you are looking in the Fremont area, then look no further than the Northbridge Apartments. Over the past year, the building has been totally rejuvenated. Management is quick to address concerns and is constantly doing things to make it a better place to live. You can walk just about anywhere and there are a ton of food options. The place is pet friendly and most everyone I've met is friendly. Rent is affordable for the area and the rooftop is great for the spring and summer (and apparently winter now, too).
