Boy was I wrong!! I had expected much more from a privatized jail but this just went south right…read morefrom the get go. First of all, I had a very sub-par shuttle service to the jail. The Chauffeur was the most chatty Kathy I have ever met. He talked the whole way! I just wanted to sit and look at the beautiful autumn colors of the Virginia trees but not with officer talks-a-lot. If it wasn't for the handcuffs, I would have definitely rolled down the window to drown out his voice. Once I arrived I thought to myself, just forget the long uncomfortable ride and let the fun begin! Again, dead wrong. I asked for an expedited check-in but they just laughed. The nerve of these people right? Who waits for 3.5hrs to check in!? I am sure there were at least 2 people that arrived after me and they totally got checked in before me. When they finally called me, I got a different room because my main room wasn't ready or something yet. I had to wait in some room called "Security Housing" or something like that for 2 nights!! Two whole nights just to get my room ready. Wow what a joke. When my room was finally ready I thought to myself, just relax it can't get any worse. Oh man that couldn't be any further from the truth. I guess all the rooms were full and the only other vacancy was with someone else!! Yes you read that right, I had to share a room with some stranger! WTF!? I begged for a single room but was told if I did not leave the front desk that they would lock my in my room for 3 whole days. I think he was joking but he didn't even snicker. Sometimes this random guy would even poop right there next to me without even a thought! Anyways, after I settled in and realized it was almost lunch time I began to get excited. I was told we were having hamburgers and potatoes. Not real fancy but I was hungry so it would do. What they served me was probably the worst excuse for a hamburger ever! I overheard someone call it a "meat rock" and I am sure they will probably be giving it a bad review soon as well because they were spot on with the description. Yuck is an understatement. I was waiting for this thing called "store day" everyone kept talking about but I never saw a store. It must be some inside joke among the other patrons that I didn't get (I would have given anything for a store at that point). The weird hours and the fact that the guy at the front desk would open and close my door whenever he/she wanted day and night made me super uncomfortable and very tired. The only privacy I got was in a bathroom called "the truckstop" and it was exactly that. GROSS! After I started getting used to everything, my vacation time was over. I was actually looking forward to going back to work and the real world! This place was the pits and I will make sure I never go there again. I would give it zero stars if it would let me. I hope no one else has an experience like me. Next time I am just going to check out some place called "up-state". I heard they are a lot more friendly and welcoming there with a lot more amenities too!

A few colleagues told me to avoid some of the southern food, like the corn bread, as it is intermittently laced with ex-lax. The prison hooch is meh, the floaties are tasteless, and is overpriced at 1 strip of postage stamps. Much prefer the delectable margaritas served in Seychelles, or the hard-charging vodka that is available in much of mother Russia The VIP prisoner section is the way to go (no roomies!). No dual ankle bracelets required AND they send a guard past the cell every 15 minutes because they like us so much. There are spectacular artists on my cell block! I'm considering a Richard Nixon tattoo for my lower back, spades on my ankle, and/or the border outline of Ukraine to help obfuscate the blemishes on my groin. This resort offers so much self-improvement: I've taken up the yoga, mindful meditation, green tea enemas, and am happily gluten free for 16 hours and counting! Cons: -there is a lingering odor that doesn't seem to go away. The smell could be that my mentally ill friend Roger, has feces-flinging-fits. And they are not often cleaned up -mobile phone use costs 3 cans of tuna, which is overpriced as there is no WhatsApp on the flip phone -the library has a pitiful selection similar to that rural Alabama town Sessions took me to once: they are missing the Reagan-era National Reviews, and they don't carry Foreign Policy magazine, at all

The prices they charge for inmates to have contact with their loved ones, and the cost for their loved ones to let them know they are not discarded and forgotten, is criminal. The mental abuse heaped on them daily, is unconscionable. Bright lights on 24/7; no outdoor time; no books (they claim books are a fire hazard!); no cleaning products; laundry coming back yellowed and dirtier than it was when it was sent out; making grown men BEG for toilet paper; air conditioning regularly out; COVID is still a problem (lack of cleanliness and no basic precautions taking place in such confined quarters); no medical care; inedible "food;" and constant NOISE. The "correction officers" go out of their way to belittle these men when they're all already as low as they can go. Animals at a shelter are treated better than these men. Judges, prosecutors, police, and correction officers should have to spend one week locked up here...maybe then we could actually focus on crime prevention and reform, rather than solely on punishment.

So my husband's inmate there I'm not going to mention his name do for his safety but you cannot…read morevisit inmates in person due to covid so they have to use tablets and unfortunately the inmates are running the tablets they told my husband he had to pay $100 or $50 to get access to the tablet for a visitation and when they go to use the phones that all ran by gangs once a blood phone once up Petersburg phone and wants a white phone one's a Hopewell phone so I call up there to complain and a young lady told me to call during the day to make a complaint so I did and I get a very rude lady that hangs up in my face and tells me she can't help me unless I give my husband's name which obviously he's not safe there because they have no control over their jail so I'm wish I would not do that so now I'm contacting the news and giving a bad review because the lady I spoke with yesterday said there was one officer per pod isn't there like 90 men in a pod isn't there a ratio for how many people can be supervised by one person so Riverside regional jail needs a higher poor people or something because the officers should be the one running the jail not the inmates or gangs my husband is not safe there

It wasn't even the inmates it was the staff I had the worst sergeant and the worst Lieutenant ever. Communication sucks. You're overworked to the max and underpaid to the max.
