My first lesson was great. Rick was my instructor, he was calm, patient, gave constructive and conducive criticism and made the learning experience phenomenal. I felt extremely comfortable during the practices. Rick reassured me that my driving skills were good, but needed practice, and my overall attention to the road was great. The next three lessons was with the owner, Rich, and it couldn't have been more different my first road lesson with Rick. At first I thought it would be phenomenal and not so intense, I had already done over 10 lessons with a different driving school, and was comfortable on the road. However, when I was with Rich after he observed my driving skills that I learned he'd tell me that everything I learned was incorrect. But I was reluctant to continue with Rich with an open mind to a different way of driving. Another thing I disliked, was the fact that my grip on the steering wheel was incorrect to him, Rich wanted me to have a narrower grip on the wheel where my hands would be closer together, and when steering my hands would practically be right on top of each other to avoid oversteering. Thing is, I am a tall skinny guy with long lanky arms, I cannot physically fucking grip the wheel with such a narrow grip 1- physically its uncomfortable for me 2- turning didnt feel natural nor right at all, but even if i tried to go back to how I learned from Tanner City, Rich would just continue to tell me that it was wrong. Not only that, but everything I was doing despite having already been on the road, before was always wrong, despite other instructors telling me that I was doing well. Even when I would be doing a maneuver that was correct and that I learned from previous instructors, he'd yank the steering wheel in the middle of traffic and continue to just be condescending. That was the most anxiety inducing experience(s) I've had, not even the amount of fast oncoming traffic was anxiety inducing just the sheer uncalled intervention of grabbing the wheel was unneeded in the situation. Wouldn't even allow me to even go through with how I learned to parallel park. When it came to turns, I understand there's a sense of urgency, but Rich was impatient even when there wasn't any threats around us that needed defensive driving. The importance of defensive driving is vital in teaching new drivers, but Rich was not the best confidence builder when being on the road, but eventually it came to me, overtime when working with Rich. I genuinely believe if I kept at least some of my old driving habits that I learned at the driving school I was at prior I wouldn't have been so nervous and uncomfortable during the exam. However I did I make mistakes on the road test that I take full accountability for. Rick -thank you again for your advice and lessons during my first lesson, and making the experience great. Rich - I appreciate your straight forwardness when driving, and the time you spent to help me drive better, especially when turning, but I really think you need to reevaluate your style of teaching because it is VERY ANXIETY INDUCING and it does not help people like myself pursuing the road test. Also I really wish you showed me the testing area sooner so I could have practiced on my own time there and was clearer about the right of ways at the intersection on market street. Other than that, everything else was good, I enjoyed the conversations we had. In sum, NSDS isn't a bad driving school, in fact it was OK, while my experience was very unorthodox and this review may come off as the total contrary. I look at it as a learning experience for myself, while building confidence took a little longer when working with Rich, I don't regret doing lessons with Rich. I also see it as an opportunity for Rich to improve his style of teaching (that is if he sees this review). Other than, thank you Rich for the time you spent with me on the road. read more

I had to add to this so no one else goes to this school, Charlie, an instructor was a CREEP! He kept putting his hand on my leg while I was driving. Who else knows what he will do. STAY AWAY FROM THE PERV SCHOOL. Thought this was a good driving school at first but when he booked me for a driving test that I told him I couldn't do, I got charged at the RMV extra money A MONTH AGO that he has YET to pay me back. He will not return my calls and he used to always return them but now that he owes me money, he won't. Do yourself a favor and go to a better driving school that costs a little more. It's worth it. You won't be dealing with children. read more

Stay away. I got cut off from an older man driving alone. Had to slam my breaks on and blast my horn. He was operating a gray Hyundai Elantra with the sign on the roof advertising NorthShore Driving school. Checked out their website. In red print it states SAFETY is our #1 Priority We Stress Defensive Driving Techniques Really? This driver came out of a side street and waited in the opposite lane of travel and inserted himself between the car in front of me at the last possible second. Wet pavement, foggy morning. High traffic roadway. I wouldn't take my child there. He was an older gentleman. Probably the "Charlie" mentioned in the other low rated reviews. read more

If you want to have an awful, anxiety inducing driving experience, this the driving school for you! I had the plasure of driving with one of the older male instructors. From the get go I had to be driving 10 miles above the speed limit in order to "not be passed by other cars". Every mistake came with yelling. Which will make anyone anxious! Especially a first time driver. I even spoke up to the instructor, and politely asked why he was raising his tone at me for a small mistake. I requested for him to take me home as I did not feel like being yelled at as a paying customer. Paying upwards to $45 dollars an hour for lessons mind you. He even pulled out his phone when he was driving me home! Yelling DOES NOT EQUAL CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. read more

The owner of this place was very rude to me. I went on a few lessons with him and he spent the whole lesson yelling at me and quizzing on what I was doing wrong every 10 seconds which made me not want to drive. The other instructor was very laid back and chill however he would give unclear instructions and would touch parts of my thigh every lesson which made me extremely uncomfortable. read more

The North Shore Driving School is just looking for your money! First when I booked a driving lesson for my son, I clearly indicated that he just needs to practice parallel parking and go through a road test route, instead my son was taken to Salem for a 2h ride. Next, I asked to book a road test, but when the owner called us with the date, we had to cancel it immediately because it fell on our vacation, the owner told us we have to pay $65.00 although it was more than a week before a test. I told him according to the RMV website there are no fee if you cancel 72 hours before the test. He still put my son's name on the list, and now he has a record of felling it. read more

I have done two road lessons with this driving school, and cannot put into words how pleased I am. My first lesson was with Charlie, who was very kind, gave great advice, taught me basics, and made me much more confident in my driving. My second lesson was with Melissa; she taught me how to parallel park, how to do a three-point-turn, and she helped me drive on the highway for the first time in my life. Melissa's methods of teaching were absolutely amazing! She taught me a song about parallel parking, which helped me so much and ensured that my parallel parking was perfect every time i did it. She also encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and gave me such great advice. I am so comfortable with Charlie and Melissa, and the head of the company, Rich, is just as kind. The three of them have made my experience so great, and I would recommend them to anyone, whether you're brand new to driving or experienced. 5 Stars all the way! read more

This school was offered at St. Marys in Lynn. I was appalled when my daughter came home from a couple of classes and the owner/instructor told the class that men are better drivers than women. Really! I let most of the comments go even though I went to the parent class and heard this man say it at the class. My daughter did not want me to talk to the guy. Then I paid an extra $100 so she could take her driving test on a Sunday with a group of kids. I was told that the $100 covered the cost of the test, license and the use of the driving school car. She went Friday to the registry and found out none of the fees were paid! She paid again and got her picture license. I called the school to find out what was going on and when the owner called me back he was rude, told me different costs (including $75 for him and his car to be at the test.) then he hung up on me and hasn't returned my calls. Don't use them. read more

I was looking for Adult Driving Lessons and this place SCAMMED me…read more Maybe it's different for kids looking to take driving lessons but I doubt it because I was in the car when they tried to convince a parent to have their daughter take lessons with another auto school that both the parent AND the instructor I was with seemed very aware was run by someone who on multiple occasions was accused of inappropriate physical contact, something I was able to confirm myself very easily with google. I signed up for a 10 hour lesson program, which was not inexpensive, after being advertised that the scheduling would be able to be done at my discretion, that was never the case. The duration and timing of the lessons was always changing. During these lessons they taught me nothing besides the specific criteria for the driving test: cruising around, backing up, parallel parking, and that was it. No attempts to build confidence, no attempts to go out into the highway, and sometimes the instructor even had his hand on the steering wheel the entire lesson. After my 10 hours we were supposed to assess my progress together before continuing, I even had plans to take the driving test without their sponsorship (because they operate their tests out of a completely different town and DMV from where they teach) but instead they scheduled me for the test WITHOUT my consent and then wanted to charge me MORE MONEY to take it with them after misleading me that this was all part of the package I had already paid for. After failing the test they offered no additional feedback besides saying I was "nervous" and have never attempted contact again. Very dissatisfied with the lessons that I was given and very dissatisfied with the lack of communication surrounding the entire process. I hope it's different for younger learners but I somehow doubt that very much. But if you are an adult looking for driving lessons you'd be better off looking elsewhere. I feel they just took my money for everything and gave me nothing. Total Scam.

However, when I took the driving test, he blamed me for choosing not to take another class, even though he hadn't advised me to take one until after I failed my exam for the second time. I failed because they gave me a terrible car to drive. It was very difficult to control: when I pushed the accelerator, the car would sometimes surge, but when I pressed it gently, it wouldn't move at all. When I tried not to accelerate too much, I dropped well below the speed limit; when I pressed a little harder, the car would hit the curb. On top of that, it made a lot of suspension noise while driving. I don't understand how this car even passed the state inspection. Northshore Driving School is a very unique and helpful place. From Rich's seemingly unbelievable life stories to Rick's constant jokes, it's a place where I learned a lot about driving responsibly while also having fun. The majority of my road lessons were with Rich and contrary to what others say, he helped me immensely become a better driver. Rick, while not as thorough as Rich, will make sure that you do as needed. He is a bit more laidback and let's you drive without much hassle. Rich is a very thorough instructor. He wants to make sure that you know what you're doing at all times. When driving with him in the car, he will go over things with you again and again to make sure that you got it down. He wants you to keep your hands on top of the steering wheel to make sure that your hands can quickly cross over each other to avoid accidents should the instance arrive. Everything he does will make sure that on test day, should you follow what he says, you will pass with no problems. Rich at first will seem a bit intimidating but after spending time with him during the lessons you realize that he really just wants to make sure you're driving safely and responsibly. As for the pricing and availability, it is the best place around when compared to other driving schools. I really enjoyed my time learning from the both of these guys. They helped me pass my test without issue and made me into a fantastic driver. To you parents who are thinking of sending your kids to driving school I cannot stress it enough that Northshore Driving School is the place to go.-RP read more

Not sure if it was Rich or Rick I'm pretty sure Rich very old guy was my instructor a few weeks back I payed $150 for 2 hour course ...Worse experience this guy literally sat at a parking lot and told me all these horror stories about people crashing and dying in car accidents the whole time literally the worse hour of my life he wouldn't shut up this person died this way this person died that way like what type of instructor sits there and talks about death ... very unprofessional and after the hour of just sitting there and listening to his bullshit we started to drive dude kept putting his hand over mine kept turning the wheel keep yelling at me me keep braking Geesh I was annoyed about everything $150 for a bunch of bs Rich was the worse instructor ever and truthfully tooooo old he should just retire Rich please do better stop scaring people with these horror stories I read some reviews about this and was praying I didn't get you and I did Stop putting your hands over ppls hands and yelling up people Your the worse I was suppose to schedule another road test but not with Northshore driving school no wonder why you guys have like 2 stars .... Northshore driving school is the best driving school I have ever been to. They really know what they are teaching. I took their full course, which included class room and driving. I was able to learn so much in the classroom about road safety and awareness, rules of the road and what each road sign meant. Which set me up to pass my permit test. I then took the driving course with them, they where patients with me and where able to make me a good and attentive driver. They then set up my road test, drove me there and back home. I passed of course because I had such great teachers. They are really nice and friendly people. I would like to especially thank Charles one of my driving instructors, he was funny and was able to tolerate my goofiness. Also thank you Mr.Daley for the crazy stories. The class is also super affordable compared to other schools. I highly recommend them. read more

This is such a great driving school! Richard is very thorough with teaching you how to drive, he will not only teach you how to pass the driving test but how to stay safe in the roads! Richard has been teaching people, kids and adults how to drive for a very long time so he is very experienced! He taught me how to drive very quickly and I passed my test on the first time! He has taught me how to be a safe driver on the roads! I am glad that I chose the North Shore Driving School! If you want to learn how to drive or get your kids to learn how to drive safely in the roads it is your best choice! Richard offers driving classes for both adults and students in order for them to pass their permits and also driving road lessons. He will teach you how to be a successful driver on the road! Best driving instructor around HANDS DOWN! Helped me pass my test and Rich encourages us to learn responsible, defensive driving maneuvers and tricks. So that we will not only get our license, but be able to succeed even after taking his courses. Rich is a very solid man, he's fair but firm. To some who may not understand the dangers of driving on the road he may come across as "too strict" or whatever the case may be. That couldn't be further from the truth.. PARENTS PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS DRIVING SCHOOL!!! There is an instructor by the name of Charlie he is a pervert!!! My child did a road lesson with him and multiple times he would put his hand on her leg/thigh!!! He also called my daughter dumb and stupid many times and told her that there was something wrong with her brain. The owner Rich is rude, disrespectful and talks to you like you're an idiot. Filing a complaint with the better business bureau and local police department. This school is a scam and does not teach your child what is required for a drivers test. read more

Rich is a great driving instructor, he taught me how to drive safely and defensively. He is the best at letting you know your mistakes and telling you how to fix them as well. I had no prior driving experience and also a stay at home mom to a 7 month old and he was very very reasonable with your scheduled hours! Also very cheap compared to other driving schools. I took driver's ed and did some of my road lessons at another school which was very unprofessional and overpriced, so I decided to take the road test with North Shore Driving School because it had the best rates by far and was able to schedule my road test shortly after I called. I can honestly say that I learned more in one road lesson with Rich than I did during months of road lessons at the other school, and I couldn't have felt more prepared for the road test, which I passed! read more

I recommend North Shore Driving school. I got my driving license on my first try. It took only 5 driving lessons from Richard, that is it. He is strict and thorough about the rules. My two kids attended North Shore Driving School. I have to say that Mr. Daly and his instructors were very professional. My kids learned a lot in class, as well as driving on the road. They both passed the test their first time, and I recommend North Shore Driving School to anyone who is serious about driving. read more

I took a few road lessons at this school and passed my driving test on the first try. My instructor was Rich and he was great. Rich has patience with his students and isn't afraid to let them know when they're making a mistake. Thanks to him, I am more knowledgeable about the roads and behind-the-wheel driving. read more

The instructors are serious about what they do, which is a good quality when teaching students how to drive. Some might frustrated if they say your doing something, but their honest enough to tell you what you did wrong which helps with improvement. Also the price is more affordable then other places. read more

The class is good info they use older videos but the content is super useful and through for your permit test. The permit test was easier than the quizzes we took in class. road tests are two hours long instead of one and I passe my road test without any trouble would definitely recommend! -NSA read more

Great classroom experience and road lessons! I am one of few people in my friend group who can change a flat tire thanks to NSDS. The instructors really know how to teach inexperienced drivers to be safe and confident on the road. Also, Mr. Daly has a great sense of humor!! read more
