Wooooo Hoooo what a great waterfront park. 5 stars for the view. 5 stars for the history of the site. Fort Howard was built to ensure that invaders would never come upon Baltimore soil ever again. Many historic buildings still exist but are decaying. Hopefully some of the rumors that I hear that they will be turned into condos are true. Great place for history lovers to roam around. read more

I have been to North Point State Park quite a few times. I typically come once in the winter to view the gorgeous frozen ice across the bay and again later in the year to go fishing. Since North Point is State Park, you have to make reservations before entering. This requires you to create an account online and pay prior to entry. I felt that it was awkward I had to do that this morning since there was not a lot of people in the park and they were not at capacity. I'm not a fan of this at all however I do understand with some parks who meet capacity on the weekend and holidays during the summer. It's a nice area that also offers a swimming area as well as a pavilion and multiple trails to walk. read more

Perfect for casual walkers, serious runners, or anyone looking to get outdoors. Costs $3 to park North Point State Park is a fantastic spot, especially if you're looking to get in some cardio or train for a race. The park is mostly flat, which makes it super accessible for all fitness levels, and there's a surprising amount of paved road, perfect for running, walking, or biking. From the main road to the end of the pier is about 4 miles round trip, and from the entrance guard station to the pier is almost exactly 3.1 miles--basically a built-in 5K! For anyone training for races, it's a great, consistent loop. There are also plenty of trails if you feel like exploring--one even has a wooden plank walkway, which is a fun little detour. And if you're looking for a longer route, the park connects to a paved hauling road that's closed to cars and stretches another 3.5 miles north. Combine that with the park's internal roads and you've got about 13.2 miles of flat, uninterrupted paved path, a rarity for the area. Scenic, quiet, and not overly crowded--this park is a great find for endurance training or just enjoying the outdoors. read more

Wonderful. We've been exploring the local parks, and now that my disability pass has arrived I can get into MD state parks for free. However, it would have only cost $3 for us to enter, which seems like a deal or what is available here - including swimming. Although it's June, it really wasn't warm enough to swim today, but there were still several families there, making the most of their day. The fully paved jetty is a delight. I didn't feel anywhere near as nervous traveling to the end of it as I do with most piers. There's also a great pier, not made of wood so I didn't have to worry about a tire falling through or any of the other things I worry about when I go to Stansbury Park, or other parks that clearly don't get the budget that this national park gets. And so much of it is accessible!! Had a great time today. Normally I write more, but I think the pictures say it all. We love this state park with lots of waterfront on the Chesapeake Bay. Filled with hiking trails, beautiful beaches, picnic tables and grills, and a Visitor Center filled with the history of the war of 1812 and of when there was an amusement park called Bay Shore. We feel like we are taking a step back in time whenever we visit since the park is filled with so many remnants of the past. It is beautiful to visit there in every season. There is also a trail that takes you through a huge pond and marshy area that is a welcome surprise where there are paths that take you by a beaver dam as well as sheltering many birds and water fowl. We always meet bird watchers looking for a bald eagle and photographers looking to capture a rare bird or a pretty view. read more

[Coronavirus review] North Point (I would have called it East Point; not sure what the namers were using as a frame of reference) is a wetland on the outskirts of Baltimore. There is some beach, but it's rocky and inhospitable. During peak pandemic, beaches are closed anyway so you're not missing out on much. The park was open when I went (and in theory, you were still supposed to self-pay the small admission fee, which I did). There are some trails through wetlands that go a decent distance. I have been twice and have not been mobbed by mosquitoes, but I have found the trails to be less than well-maintained and inundated with water. The old powerhouse is an interesting ruin (currently bearing some rather apt Pennywise the Clown street art among other graffiti), and the reflections off the still inland water are nice (though I'm guessing when the weather warms up, the bugs will obscure the view). There's not a ton going on, but it's green, quiet, and outdoors and it's not that far from B-more. I would also add that Fort Howard Memorial Park and Veterans Park are nearby (and I don't feel like making a separate Yelp page as they are small), but the fort has more water views (and more wind) and the veterans park has a tiny beach of actual sand, and if I'm going to drive out to this peninsula, I say I might as well stop at those spots too. read more

Exploring the old trolley lines, walking through the trails, tossing coins in the fountain, walking the beautiful pier, or wading in the beachfront, there is literally something for everyone. We often see tons of people fishing the pier, walking their dogs, sunbathing, cooking out, and spending the day. We like walking by the water for the bay breeze. $3 for in state during the week, $4 on weekends. It's a great deal! read more

Great park!! Be careful if it is within a couple of days of heavy rainfall, though. Definitely make sure you wear some boots because it got VERY VERY muddy!! This is a good walking trail also for people who might have mobility issues with more rocky terrains, because essentially there is a really long paved route throughout the park that is an even flat surface. There is a great trail with an old power plant that is great for some pictures and exploring, and also a little beach with great views of the lighthouse by the Dock of the Bay restaurant. read more

Things I saw: * marshes * beach * abandoned old power house * small cliffs * old pier The grade is mostly flat. Super easy hike with lots of awesome sights. Besides the trail, the park also has a small beach for visitors and a new pier that is beautiful. People were allowed to fish off the pier. I have hiked this park for 20+ years. This year is completely different. Rampant drug use. Vials and paraphernalia throughout. Trash everywhere. Altercations constantly. Last week someone had a gun pulled on them in the park for telling someone not to throw trash. The guy actually stayed at the park yet the cops did nothing. Cars get broken into in broad daylight. A certain type of crowd parks outside the park and walks in with coolers, then will dump their entire cooler of trash just on the trail. They received additional funding this year but are rocking the paths? Ruining the park. A tree has been down on the trail for months. If I didn't live down the street, I'd avoid this park entirely. Very sad they let it get like this. Hopefully this review gets seen by them and they address it but I doubt it. Staff needs to be replaced and order needs to be restored. read more

Great place for walking and enjoying the views. During the summer time I would not attend because it gets over pack and they will close the park down once its filled which is normally by 11 to 12 pm every summer. But I love going in the fall or spring. read more

I wish I could give this park 5 stars. It is a beautiful park but the hiking trails need some upkeep, especially the Black Marsh Trail. There needs to be bridges to get people past the marsh as it's always muddy. I can't walk my dogs On that trail unless I want them up to their elbows in mud: They charge a hefty fee to get in, where is that going? Update the trails so the whole family can hike. read more

I had no clue that this state park on the water was so close to canton! It only took us 15 minutes to get there and it was really pretty. We went on a Monday so it was quiet, which was nice. It was too hot (90+) to go hiking, so we just roamed around and looked at the different areas. Note: the visitors center is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we couldn't see that either. There is a small patch of sand for the beach area and overall it was really beautiful. I plan to go back soon and check out the trails! read more

First of all...I think the people who write State Park (DNR) websites ought to be hired as advertising executives. You know the ones who have us convinced that if we drive the right car and drink the right beer we will get to hang out with 20 something super babes , who happen to drink beer and like football. This is exactly what you will feel like if you drive out to North Point State Park ( and many other of the State Parks). They are portrayed on their sites as delightful little havens away from the hustle and bustle of the urban sprawl. Some, a very few, are indeed that. However the picture ( cover of the book) is rarely what you actually get upon arrival. North Point is terrible for biking. Don't even bother. The only place to ride is the one main road into the parking areas. Its nice enough, rolling fields and great breeze for about a 1 mile stretch from entrance gate to parking area but for $3.00 ride at home and pretend. The trails are walking only and not very well groomed even for that. Mosquito's abound and boy they are hungry. As for the beach and the wonderful view, lets say that the Chesapeake Bay photographs better than it looks in person. back to commercials, it reminds me of that one with the long runway and the first image is a beautiful thin girl, as she comes closer she morphs into a hairy fat guy. Tagline...."Everything looks better from a distance". That's North Point State Park. The beach... I don't know. I went down to look but the blaring mix of Tejano, Salsa and Country music was all a little too much for me to bear so I didn't linger. read more

So why's the address in Kingsville, here? It's off of North Point Boulevard in Essex. At any rate, I've only been in the off-season, so I can only imagine the crowds that summer brings. I visited it on the last blue moon, and it was lovely and lonely in the off-season, full of birds, water, and mud. I had a nice stroll through the waterfront area of the park, peeking in the closed visitor's center, circling the restored fountain, and walking off the cargo pier and the long land pier. It was really calm and gorgeous. I'm looking forward to going back to try some of the other trails. read more

If you are looking for a beach to swim in the Chesapeake Bay, this is about as normal as they come. First of all, you shouldn't swim in the bay period. That is, unless you want to see if the ravages of flesh eating bacteria are as bad as they say. This is the BEST spot I have found for catching HUGE catfish. I mean monsters. I fish all over the country and this is my go-to catfish spot. They tend to hit best on squid (find it at Fearls tackle shop on the way into the park). You can catch other stuff here (stripers, perch, sunnies, needlefish, and lots of crabs). A ranger said a few times a year the skates run, not so much good eating, but one heck of a fighting fish. Go out on the earthen dam and fish your heart out, No shade, so wear a hat if it is summer time. Almost invariably there is a nice breeze. read more

$3 entrance fee. Plentiful parking. There is a fishing pier and a nice "beach" area and is a peaceful break from the city. Looks like they have a pavilion where you can do events. The trails themselves are pretty flat and are easy for a nice walk. The trail map sled y "observation points" which didn't have views of anything so it was confusing. However there are some nice things to look at doing the regular paths. Be careful, we did see a snake in the trail so look where you are walking. read more

Not sure what's with all the naysayers here. This is a nice park with easy hikes and it's a super close drive from the city! I'm glad to have it nearby, especially on days when I just want to get out and see some nature. I'm not sure why people are saying it's so dirty. I think it's well kept. It's a marsh for sure so it does get muddy. If that's not your thing, then don't go. I just wear good boots. The only thing is it might not be a good idea to go after a heavy rain/snow as some of the trails do flood. read more

I love this state park. It's a decent mix of trails, beach and learning center, tucked away from the world. I hadn't been here in a while, so I only just recently noticed a new walkout pier. It's gorgeous! The brick work and design are aesthetically pleasing and it'll be perfect for the warmer weather, since the bay breeze is stronger when you're out there. There are tons of picnic tables and areas to lay out a big blanket and stretch out. Great for families and kids to run around, and big enough for others to adventure a bit away from that hustle and bustle. read more

Maryland's hidden gem! I am reluctant to tell people about my secret spot but... If you want to get away from the "crowds" this is a great spot. There's several trails you can take without being over run by other "nature lovers." You have a choice open public open beach / fishing area or more secluded woodsy beach spots. There are some nice pavilions you can rent- cheap with beautiful water view. read more

Not the greatest one, but I am a person that can appreciate even the dirty brown colored water that can be found here. It is what it is. But there are things I cant accept, garbage. Where is the police? Where are the people who care? And the garbage is not about me needed to see it, it is about the animals here. So many birds and fish get killed from garbage, this is a shame and something that need to be stopped ASAP. The city need to find the people who through their garbage here and do something about that. read more

You don't get the best cell service here, so if an emergency happens and you need to call or text someone, it would be harder to. Otherwise, I don't mind the low cell service, because the sites you see are more worth it anyways. The water is beautiful, but I'm not sure why anyone would want to swim in it (it is bay water after all, which isn't clean). It is very clean for a state park due to the area it is in. There is a random abandoned building tucked away in the trails, which is a neat find if you haven't seen it before. The animals that you get to see range from the common duck and nasty flies and mosquitos to very interesting herons and beautiful butterflies. read more

North Point State Park may seem a little worn around the edge but it's a cool spot to go to if you want to do some light hiking. I haven't been here in the middle of the summer, but when it isn't crowded it has a pretty cool feel to it. There's an abandoned old pier and some kind of old warehouse or other building in the middle of the woods that feels slightly post-apocalyptic. In reality you aren't very far away from civilization, but it feels like you've left the city far behind you. read more

After reading a few reviews, I was expecting something much worse than what we found. I thought that the park was very well-maintained with a lot of very nice, wide trails. I wouldn't let my kids swim in the Chesapeake Bay a little further down from where trash is washing a shore, but others didn't have a problem and there were plenty of seashells for them to find. The pavilion looked nice and the visitor's center was good as well. Last, at least in August, we didn't encounter any mosquitoes despite hiking on the trail by the shore, so don't be overly concerned - just wear bug spray. This place was awesome with a lots of beautiful views on a sunny day! The trail is nicely maintained. The trail passed through wooded areas and along edges of open fields. I have walked and biked this trail with friends on multiple occasions. The differing habitats make this area good for birding. I recently attended a wedding held here for a close friend of mine. I love coming here in the summer for a swim. If you live in or around you should check this place out for family outtings read more

To start, I am amazed by how immature and biased the other reviews are. I am a relatively avid trail hiker from Illinois and thought that North Point State Park was a nice get-away from the city life of Baltimore. Granted, this is the east coast and the North Chesapeake Bay area, so I would not wish to swim in the water, and trash is everywhere in the water...again, it's an East Coast Bay, its been everywhere I've been so far on the NE coastal area's. To put that aside, I went on a very hot day in late July, the trails were marked well and primarily flat. You can branch off the trail and walk along the some more natural beach area, however do watch your step (glass, debris, etc.). The horse fly's were bad in places, but its located next to a natural marsh area...(to other reviews, if you don't like bugs, then why are you spending your time outdoors?) I saw plenty of good wildlife, such as swallow tails, Tiger, and Monarch butterflies, lots of bullfrogs in the marsh waters, Crain's, Owls, and various birds. Certain parts of the trail did get cluttered, or trail off but that's part of the hike and those parts are clearly marked on the trail map. I liked the historical parts of the trail, something about coming across an dilapidated Power House concrete building in the middle of the woods is appealing to me. Also their are 3 different piers, one is the older main pier, one is a shorter smaller one next to the main beach, and the 3rd is off limits, however it is deteriorating and makes for some interesting pics. In conclusion, the parks trails are perfectly fine, and include zero incline. The historical significance of the area is quite interesting, from the Indian's who lived in the area, the British who landed there to invade Baltimore, to the 1900s amusement park that is only remembered by old relics (perhaps the visitor center has more info on this, otherwise you can find more about it online...sadly it was closed during my visit). If this park could generate some money, I could see it turning into a very nice area. Unfortunately if I had to guess the funds are not many and Visitor Center hours are limited. read more

The drive to it, nice, the road to the entrance nice scenery, two nice old women who great you at the gate for your George Washington's, you drive in ok its cool, get to where the beach is hidden away , first wth moment .. then you get closer to the beach you begin to be attack by the nice biting flies mosiqtoes sand fleas I'm guessing and weird looking wasps , ok keep walking shitty picknik tables and grills ok you can work with it its not so bad, right , while getting eaten alive . Walk down to the beach , trash nasty looking water and wait was that a tampon?!?!?! Ok I'm not getting in where can I at least per, omgosh there's port a potties, whew I didn't know what I was going to do..walks over to the port a potties "hello " wow nice people .. goes in the first port a potty omg wth ?!?! There's shit every where (throws up couldn't control it, sorry) cleans off my face with toilet paper , goes in the next one , nasty number two but I really have to go so puts tissue over the seat and stands over the toilet, hurries up and gets out of there before I throw up again. No soap no nothing oh a shower thingy let me check it out , BEST THING ABOUT NORTH POINT STATE PARK!! Ahh cold clean water but the faucet is on a timer that lasts about ten seconds..but still the best thing. Oh look a fountain let me go check that out why does this water look nasty to omg!! Goes back where my friends are and say um ok are you guys ready to leave?? North point state park, I definitely would not recommend it unless you like all that. read more
