You most definitely have to experience a mass here at least once. You have your typical gigantic organ with the reverberant choir. Masses are definitely longer since communion lines are longer and they sing or chant every song or response. During regular season masses, Latin is even used. Music is lame for my tastes. I prefer piano, guitar, drums, and more up beat interpretation of the church hymns. You won't get this at St Joseph's. Some of their cantors are bad. I have a few favorite cantors at St. Joesph's. Head priest is very conservative. He has made comments about the way people should dress for mass: no open toed shoes and jeans. Wear your Sunday's best. Not my cup of tea for worship. Overall the architecture and artwork of this church is gorgeous. Occasional mass here isn't too bad. However I prefer a smaller, homely, and contemporary Catholic church service.

This is a friendly bunch of folks, some former(?) hippies, some younger open-minded. They do church…read morein a relaxed way, spiritual, but not too religious. Who knew, a liberal church! in Macon! There does seem to be some sort of underlying theology, but mostly it's left up to you what you believe. Nothing they said made me go "whaaatt??" It all made sense. I felt right at home, not judged, even though I'm a bit of a peacenik, with tats and piercings, nobody was giving me dirty looks. There were openly gay and lesbian couples sitting together like intimately, nobody judging them either. When I need some centering and uplifting, and I'm down near Macon for the weekend, this is where I'll be Sunday morning (not too early! at 11am).
