I transferred here from another more expensive school just a fee weeks ago and I'm already 1000% done with this place. Yes it's cheaper, but you get what you pay for I guess. First I spent an entire day calling their IT department JUST trying to log into the website. Most of the people I spoke with acted like it was a huge imposition for them to have to do their job. I finally spoke to a man named Brad who was extremely helpful. I guess the previous 4 people I spoke with didn't think it was necessary to tell me about the verification app I needed to download or that I needed to set up something called a "FERPA Identifier Code". But that was just for one website. You need to go to another website for your courses. And if you have any e-core courses those need to be done on a third website. But before I could do any of that I had to get my advisor to register me for classes. It turns out they won't accept most of my transfer credits for what they are. It doesn't matter that I took Intro to Literature because that's clearly so much different than Intro to AMERICAN Literature. Now comes accessing classes. Two different websites with two different logins requires more calls to IT because of course it does. Now I learn that since "Gordon State doesn't charge additional fees for online classes" I will have to pay additional fees for Proctored exams every single time. Except they DO charge additional fees for online classes. otherwise, what is that $287 Online Course Fee on my bill? Proctored exams require a download of a new Web Browser. Fine. They will also require me to have 2 photo IDs, be in an empty room with a door, and to have a mirror set up to the Proctor can see that nobody else is in the room. This school is not even worth all that effort honestly. I emailed my advisor to ask about my financial aid refund so I can buy my textbooks and she responds by telling me when the course drop deadline is. wtf? that's not what I asked. I have to pay for an access code for a third website to access one of the courses that I am already paying for. So I need my refund to do this. Only classes have already started so I guess I'm just screwed? Most of the classes do not require textbooks. That means you get to read all material on a screen so if you get migraines from reading on a screen you're out of luck. This is just the tip of the iceberg regarding the bullshit ive been dealing with at this place. I can't imagine being a student that relies on living on campus. That must be a whole other shitshow. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. I will be transferring to any other school after this semester because it's not worth the aggravation. read more

My boys attend and they like it a lot. It's a really great price to get the first two years done as they work and go to school. They travel about 35 min a few times a week and do the rest online. Gordon campus is so very pretty and the staff has been so nice, funny and accommodating. I hate to see all of the negative comments because it's a super sweet college. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! You will be all alone in terms of your education. Faculty and Staff do not care about the curriculum or how you are treated throughout the process. Save your money! Go to Georgia Military College! read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this school. Mostly hate. I really didn't meet anyone who absolutely loved this school, which was sad. I had an employer once who briefly went here in the 90's and loved it (I always believed this helped me get hired). According the University system, it is a four year school but they are currently going through a transition and do not offer too many four year programs. College life was extremely boring. Meal plan was not optional when I lived there, and the cafeteria was like highschool. Food was disgusting and they closed at 7pm (I had a few of my classes at night) so I grocery shopped while paying for a meal plan. Fire alarms at 4am in the morning is a charm. There is no mall in any vicinity. The only thing to do is party, but it will probably easily be busted by the cops because it is a very small town. Every blue moon you would come across an excellent professor and wonder why they were teaching at a place like Gordon. I had pretty crappy advisors as well, better luck on your own and reading the Gordon college catalog for questions to be answered. CONS -Horrible professors. -Advisors are worse. -Terrible library! -Anybody can pretty much get accepted so parents just dump their kids here. A lot of students don't make it out after their first year. -Only 4,000 students last time I attended. -20 minute drive from I-75. -20 minute drive from civilization, aka Griffin, Georgia. (Might be annoying if you're trying to look for a job) -When I lived in the dorms I felt like I was in mental ward. Strict visitation policies, no drinking even if you're 21, rude RAs, you can get locked out of your HALLWAY...rooms are all white. -Your college career is temporarily doomed if you get stuck in a remedial math or english class. -No Hospital in the area. PROS -Apparently they have a really great nursing school but good luck on going around the obstacle of professors for your pre-reqs. -Overall affordable! You get what you pay for... read more

I had a so/so experience here. Not only is the college located in the middle of nowhere, but the student body pretty much embodies every negative social stereotype you can think of for unmotivated 20 years-olds. You hardly ever see people reading or studying around campus, mainly just being loud and obnoxious or standing in doorways on their phone. I made a total of 3 or 4 friends in my 3 years of attending the college, as they were the only people I could stand being around for more than 5 minutes. However, some of the older students seem to give a crap more than the millennials going here. Probably because they appreciate college more than the ones whose parents are sending them here to get rid of them. You'll often hear someone complaining about a professor, asking to have a grade changed (yes, really), and when you're in the classroom, no one really participates as no one has studied the material. I could go on and on about how dim the younger student-body is, or how bad the parking is, but let's leave it at this: keep your head down if you need to go here, and get your studying done. You'll be able to transfer to a better school once you've paid your dues. If you must interact with people here, avoid the younger population. The town of Barnesville is hideously boring. There's no bars for miles, and even worse there's no decent restaurants nearby, unless you can settle for Hardee's, Subway, or some dumpy Mexican restaurant. The only really nice place, a Chinese buffet, shut down May of 2012, and was replaced by some trashy steakhouse with frozen food. It's obvious Barnesville is meant for retired individuals. It's definitely no Milledgeville or Athens. The college itself does seem to be expanding a lot (I revisited in 2017 to see a massive overhaul and was very impressed, but as of writing this, it consisted of about 10 buildings, with about 3 being used for classrooms). The cafeteria was just renovated, so I guess that's something. The student 'success' center is a good place to get tutoring, but only if you need help with math. Getting tutoring for anything else is kind of a waste of time. The IC building is pretty depressing, and everything feels tight, but it's where you're going to spend the bulk of your time. I've always seen the professors as 'you get what you pay for'. I've had a couple of really good professors, some okay professors, and a lot of down-right terrible professors. I once had a professor that taught the class by playing a slideshow with vocal narration. Just be prepared to do a lot of studying on your own, otherwise you'll never graduate/be able to transfer. Even though it's a junior college, it's still going by the University System of Georgia, so the classes are still relatively hard. It's good if you don't have enough money to go somewhere else, but there are still a lot of better schools out there, like GCSU or something. If you want to be handed the answers to tests and just breeze through college, then I suggest going to Southern Crescent, or whatever Griffin Tech is calling themselves these days. So anyway, in conclusion, the biggest beef I had with the school were the students, so if you have half a brain, just pick your friends carefully. Gordon is a nice school, and will help you get into a university, but I learned you can get straight A's without heavy studying. Give it a chance, and you might grow to love it. read more

I'm very surprised to see some of the negative reviews. I attended Gordon College from 2003-2005 and had a great experience; very knowledgeable professors and met some great friends there too. Beautiful campus and the college now has more four year degrees and one of the best nursing schools in the state. If you're looking for an affordable education with small classroom sizes and friendly faculty and staff, Gordon State may be a great fit for you. When I attended there were only a few four year degrees but I believe they offer 10 bachelor degrees now. I have a friend who's older (33) who is doing their weekend college program in Mcdonough which is tailored for adults pursuing a Human Services degree. She seems to really like it and enjoys the flexibility it offers. read more

I started out going to Gordon to complete some of my general ed classes for Mercer University. Considering how expensive Mercer is I thought this would be a great way to save money while knocking out some summer classes. Summer classes are the absolute best if you are serious about your education. The term is only 4 weeks long and I'd take 2 classes each session. WOW what a wonderful way to earn 12 credits. I commuted from McDonough, GA. I'm a non-traditional student with a family! It worked for me. I think Gordon is a bang for your buck. It has alot to offer. For students coming straight out of high school Gordon is a wonderful way to save. The cafeteria, library, computer labs, and everything to complete your college experience is well worth it. I don't know how anyone can post anything negative about Gordon. If so; maybe they just didn't have their priorities together.
