We were planning on going to Knights point state park but apparently dogs are not allowed. My mom got a dog from a rescue a few days ago and we were eager to go out on a car ride and perhaps a little hike with him. We decided to come here instead, it was a.... interesting experience.
First things first: This is a closed park but you can still get in to swim, have a picnic, explore the old campground or old trails. There is a $3 fee for entry but no reinforcement, there is a drop box, some place.... needs to be better marked
There are two beaches here, one for dogs and the other one where dogs are prohibited. The water is dirty and looks unappealing to swim in, but not as bad as other parts of the lake. Make sure to bring swimming shoes if you plan on taking a dip, there are a lot of rocks and I'm sure some might be a little sharp. As we walked around a few kind people pointed out that there was poison ivy where we were walking, luckily we had some wet naps in the car and cleaned off our legs. So far so good, no rash on my legs! The next thing you should bring with you is bug spray, the bugs are very, very bad.
Overall other than the walk in the old campground this trip to the state park was a dud. Our grill fire went out while we were going on our walk and just decided to head out to get some lunch. We were happy to be back in the car and safe from bugs and poison ivy! read more
