Maine Gathering is everything you love about Maine in one shop!…read more You've spent the summer in Maine, and now the season is winding down. School is around the corner, the breezes have gone from warm to crisp, and the rains slip down from the mountains more frequently. It's almost time to head home, back to real life. But you want something to take with you, a little momento of the sun and sea and lobsters and lighthouses. But how many postcards, cartoony mugs and made-in-China trinkets do you need? Let's face it, you want something unique and uniquely Maine. Head on over to Maine Gathering in the gorgeous harbor town of Camden! Maine Gathering is what it sounds like: a place where Maine artists come together to share their work with locals and visitors alike. In this small, unassuming shop, you can find pottery, jewelry, float rope mats and baskets (all recycled!), birch bark momentos, sea glass bits and bobs, and a plethora of all things lobster! Almost everything is hand made by a Maine local, and it shows: Every detail represents something that makes this state a rare gem on the East Coast. And owners Howard and Margaret Gallagher make sure that every visitor feels welcomed into this Maine artistic haven. From the in-depth knowledge of everyone who works there to Howard's jovial nature to the sheer selection of amazing gifts, Maine Gathering is THE place to go to find something to help you remember your Maine vacation for years to come!

I love that it is run solely by volunteers and artist they each take turns manning the store. The art ranges from photos to clay art to jewelry and so much more . Artist are always bringing in new pieces so definitely revisit maybe once a month if you're in the area, I felt price and was very reasonable, especially since it was art. The store itself was very neat, clean, and organized . There was a kind gentleman who was helping me check out on July 5. He held good conversation and even helped me pick out a good piece of art that I was looking at. I try to hit up local artisan places because I feel they truly know the beauty of their own home as it is in their backyard.

I walked by and was instantly intrigued by what I saw when I walked past the front door. There is truly something for everyone in here. I was instantly drawn to the beautiful glass fused jewelry who was made by the artisan who happened to be working the shop that day, Lori. All of the handmade jewelry here was so beautiful- fused glass, sea glass, and my favorite dichroic glass jewelry. I ended up buying a matching dichroic glass pendant and ring set for $30 total. I get complimented constantly on them. I wanted to buy so much more!! Another of my favorites in the store was Queen Bee Herbal- natural soaps, lotions, bath bombs, and things of that nature. I chose the lemon chiffon hand & body cream because it smelled so delicious. I also bought about 6 of the bath bombs because hey, those are awesome! I just found her facebook page "Queen Bee Herbal" so I could find out where to buy more hand cream! Luckily it looks like she does the farmers market in Portland! I could have spent so much money in here. Another artisan creates drawings/paintings of cats, dogs, or horses frolicking along the beach having a good time like they are human beings. So whimsical and cute! Who doesn't have a crazy cat lady in their life? Oh and zombie knomes! Seriously so much cool stuff go check it out!
