DO NOT GO HERE!!! If zero stars were an option, that's what I would give them. I am the daughter of an OB/GYN from NY. I am well aware of the ethical practices of a doctors office. The level of neglect I received after having a miscarriage is unconscionable. The below is long but, believe it or not, this is the shortened version.
********************************************************************************************
When I first had the miscarriage they wanted to order a sonogram. Any ethical doctor in the medical industry will tell you this is not the first step. The first step is to order a quant test. This tests your HCG levels. They don't get paid if you go to a lab for this but they do get paid if you come in for a sonogram.
My levels continued to decline for a few weeks, and then went back up to 115. At this level, the only possibility is that there is remaining fetal tissue. The nurse on the phone told me it could be an ectopic pregnancy. She told me a doctor would call me by noon the next day. The next day I had to call twice. When I finally got someone on the phone, it was another nurse. She would not put a doctor on the phone and told me I had to wait until Monday (as it was Friday and no on-call doctor could discuss my abnormal lab results with me over the weekend).
I was pushed to come in for that sonogram, which of course showed nothing. Before I came in for the sonogram, I started to bleed on my own. This is good because it means my body on its own was trying to get rid of the excess tissue. I had the sonogram and met with Dr. Boyd. He tried to push surgery on me even though I had started to bleed rather than even first trying medication. Again, he makes more money from surgery, no money from medication. He also does this dangerous procedure in the office. When I called my mother on the phone, she was beyond appalled to hear a doctor would do a DNC in office. The uterus is a soft vascular organ and can easily be perforated. Surgery should be a last resort, not a first attempt. I insisted on the medication. He said he would call in the prescription and to wait 6-7 hours to pick it up.
I did just that and when I went to the pharmacy, they didn't have the prescription. When I called the office, it was closed. I was able to get the on-call service to connect me as the office had just closed and this was an emergency. I needed medication to help me get rid of excess fetal tissue. Even Dr. Boyd said I needed to take it that night. When I got the office staff on the phone they told me he didn't finish writing the. script. When I asked for him to finish it then. I was told he was in emergency surgery. When I asked why he hadn't finished it in the morning, I was told he was called into emergency surgery. He was in emergency surgery all day? Unlikely. I explained the situation with the nurse telling me I had an ectopic pregnancy, not being able to get a doctor on the phone, and now the doctor had told me I needed this medication. I asked if another doctor in the practice, like an on-call doctor could send in the script. Nope. I had to call my mother in NY to phone in a script for me. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't have a personal relationship with a doctor.
Never since that point had a quant test been sent in for me to continue to check on my levels, but oh, they do want me to come in for another sonogram. At this point, a sonogram will not tell you anything. It is the HCG levels you need to look at. At no point did I receive a phone call from Dr. Boyd apologizing for the medication mishap. or to check in on his patient who has now been neglected a number of times.
It took me losing my self-control and yelling on a voicemail to get a doctor to finally call me back. Every time I called, I was told I could speak to a nurse and then would get a voicemail. I was not once be told to leave a message and a doctor would get back to me. I shouldn't have to be brought to tears multiple times to get a doctor to call me back. I am a person and a patient who is in their care. As if a miscarriage isn't traumatic enough, they pushed tests on me that were expensive, not covered by insurance, and inconclusive. They pushed surgery on me before trying medication which is especially troublesome as I had already started to bleed on my own. This practice is not a practice of doctors. This is a practice of money hungry thieves who will prescribe the treatment that lines their wallets best. DO NOT GO HERE!! read more
