Despite there being slightly more to do and see here than the South DeKalb Mall, the halls are arguably more dead. It was pretty depressing to see such empty pathways and closed up shops. I'm sure this mall was great back in the day. We passed by the food court and there was not a single shop open! Not sure if they moved everything to a side of the mall that we missed, but you'd be starving before you found anything. I recommend going over to Golden Corral across the parking lot if you're hungry while here. It seems like the only things really hanging on are Marshalls, Burlington, the AMC theater (probably the busiest part of the mall), Dollar Tree, and the comic store, Challenges, where a group of guys were playing with Yu-Gi-Oh! and Magic cards. There were a few other shops, but those were the primary ones that stuck with me. Challenges was kind of a cool place to walk through - lots of obscure comics and comics featuring non-mainstream African American heroes. It seems like a good place to get together with friends to play all those collectible card games, if you're into that. Everyone in the store was having a good time, laughing and joking. Honestly, it was one of the few welcoming parts left of the whole mall. Marshalls had a decent selection and their own bathrooms down a well lit hall which was nice...The AMC was pretty packed so it must still be a fairly good location...The Dollar Tree was our last stop here. Seems like the best place to go to grab movie snacks before catching a flick. One mom and her cute little girl thought the same thing as she was safely hiding their movie treats in her baby's jacket before heading for AMC...We came from Golden Corral and were pretty much just doing a walk through, since we'd never been to North DeKalb. The Dollar Tree was clean and well stocked. It's right next to the theater, if you're coming from outside. So don't listen to Google Maps if you're trying to find it, because the location has changed and they haven't updated it yet. Overall, I'd probably come back to North DeKalb Mall sooner than South DeKalb, but probably only for the stores I mentioned and the movie theater. It was definitely like a ghost town. I hope North and South DeKalb can improve their selection of retailers and not shut down. So much potential, just a blank canvas waiting to be filled. read more

The other night we were looking for a movie theater nearby us and given our time restraints, this was the closest mall with a theater with the best time. I've only been in Atlanta a short while so I've never made it to this part of town. Judging from what others are writing about this mall, the movie theater is probably the only reason people come here. Even that I was not terribly impressed with because the movie theater was unclear and poorly run and a clear reflection of the rest of the mall itself. This is a pretty old mall which you can tell by looking at it (or people have not kept up with it). It's not clear where the entrance is to this place and it looks like they just want you to enter through the department stores. The only store that I recognized was Marshalls and it was quiet there on a weekday. The entrance we took was through a old timey but cheap looking furniture store. I realized that after our movie was over and these stores were closed, it might be hard to find an exit. I was right because all the direct exits to the parking lot are through those stores. We took an emergency exit out and we went through a door that took us past the dumpster and the AC units for the building. Most of the stores here I have never heard of and the building smelled musty. The only people I saw there early in the evening were going to the movie theater (which tried to cancel the movie I had bought tickets for already). This place needs a bit of a facelift and could start with some of the basics.... clean floors and paved parking lots .... A convenient exit out of the building would work too! I don't post many 1 star reviews but unfortunately this is one of just a handful I have ever given. read more

Highlight: The Obama Store existed here for about three months. It had a $3000 oil painting of Obama in the oval office shaking hands with JFK while, get this, Jesus H Christ is standing next to him, nodding his approval. I voted for the guy, but I find that crap to be hilarious. Needless to say, they sold less than necessary to pay rent and folded up shop. You will love this mall if: You need a cheap plastic cover for a flip phone. You want a diamond crusted superman watch the size of a saucer. You need a watch battery changed. You want to sell extra gold to one of the eight "jewelers" in the mall who will melt it down and certainly not create any product with it. You enjoy Applebees karaoke. You're only missing "the worst Macys in America" on your Atlanta scavenger hunt. You enjoy parking lot carnivals. You know what the heck Something Juanderful is or what the eff they sell. You don't want to be annoyed with bothersome variety in the food court (I believe only two haven't closed). You aspire to be the next North Dekalb Mall Idol for your age group to be on the wall of fame. Seriously, this place is rotting from within. I gave it two stars only because it has a decent (over priced) movie theater and Applebees has cheap beer. Oh and it has a post office with the most stereotypical government employees in history who hate their jobs and make you know it. Prediction: this mall will be closed down before 2012. Not sure what would even take its place since is seems they've salted the earth there. read more

I've visited the North Dekalb Mall twice now for theater visits. It's always a surprising walk into a no man's land, and it reminds me of The Walking Dead. The theater, though, is worth the drive and the nervous slinking down empty hallways. You won't get a cheaper ticket at a nice theater. Anyway, there's plenty of parking available, there's a Burlington, Marshall's, Post office, Game stop, and some stand-alone vendors. There is a food court, but again, I only go in the evenings and I've never seen it opened. The sparse population of the mall would make me feel uncomfortable in the daytime, it really does feel like it's abandoned, and having such a large facility not in regular use feels odd. That theater, though! So worth it. read more

There isn't much to do at this mall, but the movie theater is nice and the few stores they do have are good. I came specifically to see a movie, but had some time so we walked through the mall. It didnt take long though. The mall was at least clean and quiet. There are some good stores on the outside too: dollar tree, America's Best, and a post office. Parking wasnt an issue because of the lack of stores, so there is an entire side of this mall where the parking lot is empty. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this mall. read more

Unfortunately this mall is really empty it lacks stores and people..i gave it two stars becaus it does have a few cool places like amc creative arts connection a pottery place and paint classes for children . i would imagine it is hard to stay open...it does not have any big retailers in it ... read more

This mall is dead... like every time you think it couldn't possibly have fewer stores left, it surprises you. If there were mall superlatives, this one would get Most Likely to Make Wikipedia's List of Abandoned Shopping Malls in the United States. It's so deserted they didn't even have a Santa for Christmas this year. One star for having an ok movie theater. read more

This mall has seen better days. As I walked through the mall, I expected to see tumbleweeds. Few stores are open and the food court only has a few restaurants. Burlington and Bed Bath and Beyond were the only stores worth visiting. Hopefully things will get better. read more

This certainly isn't Lenox or Perimeter, but it's not supposed to be... Although many of the stores have died a slow death over the years there are still enough left to make it worth your time. The Burlington Coat Factory is really good for children and baby clothes. Ross is pretty cool as well. Rack Room Shoes is okay. There's a Bath & Body Works. There are also a lot of little independent specialty stores which may appeal to some people, salons, a nice movie theatre and a Food Court (which has unfortunately just lost it's Chick-Fil-A)... It's convenient to downtown Decatur (so no traffic hassles) and although there is no valet available, there's never a problem finding a primo parking space right up front! It's also a good place for senior citizens to do their morning "speed walking" and maybe do a little shopping at Macy's afterwards. Come on, it's not that bad... read more

My most recent visit was 12/22 I came here to paint pottery. That is it nothing more nothing less. On 12.22 I came to pick up my pottery my brother, godson and I painted. We notice Santa was still taking pictures with the kids. I took my godson to see santa. Let me tell you the tea about santa. I was in this mall today, the stores inside of this mall is very basic and the food court is on par with South Dekalb mall (it's sister mall). This mall is ok one thing I do like is the art stores that's located within it. However, I left out of here empty handed mainly because I couldn't find any pants that I could fit in Burlington and Marshall's. The only thing I can tell you is support your local mall people before they turn it into a strip club. read more

I start humming "Ghost Town" by The Specials every time I end up in this mall. It's like a tomb of consumerism, someday to be plundered by archaeologists searching for braided leather belt relics from the Gap. The big draw is the movie theater, which is actually in really good shape in comparison to the rest of the place. I've never been to the Applebee's in this place, I suppose I've never been one for eating good in the neighborhood... Unless you enjoy depressing shopping experiences, I'd go elsewhere. The only reason I ever go here (or really have ever gone here) is to go to the movies. I had not been there in about a year and at the time, i didn't think it could get worse, but I was wrong. Any time your big anchor stores are a Ross, a Marshall's and the worst Macy's in the world, you're in for trouble. The stores other than the anchors are HORRIBLE. There is a furniture store with rejects from a cheesy 80s hotel, the kiosks are full of crap and even the food court is sad as hell. It makes Northlake look like the most amazing mall in the world. If you're going to the movies than it's fine ($5 matinees before noon), but don't go to anything else or you will be disappointed. read more

It is quite dead. I never seen a mall so desolate. The applebees is one of the bright spots, since they appear to go out of their way to please you. Other than that, it's best to drive further and go to North Point Mall instead. read more

OMG. This place is the worst mall I have ever seen (aside from maybe the Summit Place Mall in Pontiac, MI). Over half of the shops are closed or boarded up. The only stores that are open sell either homemade art or cheap Chinese junk. Don't bother. For what it's worth: North DeKalb Mall is under new management and is offering new products and services to bring life back in to the mall. Most of the vendors consider this place a "destination" mall, meaning that a majority of customers come in to see specific stores for specific purchases. However if you were to stroll around, coming in through the mall's "Ross entrance", you'd see RC Fitness studio's Zumba classes, Cleopatra Beauty Spa's barbering, styling and spa services (including eyebrow threading), Devon's Gourmet Popcorn's in various flavors made daily. Feisty Jewelry's handmade stylish rings, necklaces and bracelets, There are many vendors here including Avon, Bath and Bodyworks. Then come the creative activities, such as the Pottery Place offering ceramic making classes, do it yourself mugs, teapots etc and (my own store)GAS- ART GIFTS both spots perfect for any creative kid (of any age)! GAS-ART GIFTS is an autographed children's bookstore run by myself (R. Gregory Christie) I am an award winning children's book illustrator with a passion for teaching art techniques and helping artists (of any age) tap in to their creativity. In my store I creating artwork, sell autographed children's books and offer art instruction including a 5 dollar "drop in" weekend art class for intermediates and beginners! I'm pretty sure this is going to be the first mall taken over by the zombie Apocalypse. Don't go into the Rack Room shoe store!! They're eating brains in there! Okay, so no zombies, but this mall is a wasteland. There is a Ross and a Burlington Coat Factory, if you're looking for some bargains. Other than that, it's every man for himself. Yeah, they have a Macy's there, but arguably, one of the worst Macy's ever. Even the food court is dying. "Hello sir, free sample?" can be heard on the weekends when the smell of Bourbon chicken is strong. However, even half of the food stalls are empty, not a good sign. This was one of the malls that had a store devoted entirely to Obama. But much like his presidency, the store didn't turn out be as productive as one would hope. The movie theater is the best thing going here. The only reason for that is because you are almost guaranteed to be one of the few people in the theater. Still, it can be a little annoying with some of the locals making noise during a movie. Please tear down and replace with mixed-use goodness. Thanks. read more

This mall used to be 3 or 4 stars back in the day...but that was years ago before the market crash and rise of internet shopping. I used to spend tons of time watching movies and eating lunch here with my friends every week. The shopping was never amazing, but it was more than good enough for a regular guy just looking to hang out with his friends. Unfortunately, most of the good stores have left and what is there just isn't very interesting anymore. Luckily, the Macy's and other big box stores are still in business to keep this place alive! The AMC movie theatre there is still a perfectly fine place to go see a movie and honestly why I think this mall has survived as long as it has. I'm glad its still open for business because I spent a lot of time here as a kid and I hope they can turn things around! read more

The mall is one of the oldest malls in Georgia. But for it's age, the mall is very clean. The effect of the economy on small businesses is reflected by the many open spaces but many new stores are planning to move in. The change in management has already shown its effect on the support of the mall through a community garden, chess tournaments, etc. The price of the theater is a definite plus but hopefully in the near future this mall can rise up again and represent the strong will of American citizens in this declining economy. It would be heart breaking to see a mall with much history in the community disappear. read more

sad little North dekalb. What happened to you? Always looked upon as Northlake Mall's kid brother, it was always small, but seemed to have much more life in the past. AMC theaters is here if you're looking for movies, but I have to say they have one of the weakest food courts ever, and likely one of the weakest store selections also. Macy's is here and a couple of gems like Play it again sports. If you need something however, i'd consider this a pit stop, knowing full well that if you don't find what you want, at least the Target is one exit up, or Northlake, which, itself is showing its age. read more

Yeah... no thanks. The only reason I came to this mall the last 3 years was for the theater. Now the last time I went the projector broke 12 minutes into the film, and the only option given was a 'free' ticket for another day. No refunds, and a bad attitude from the manager begrudgingly handing out the rain checks. WTF! Lemme just say something about former Market Square Mall. This mall was one of the malls that defined my childhood; I had 3 sisters who worked there at separate times, they had the best gyros, kiddie tables and those cool tables with the umbrellas inside. There was KB toys, trade secret, at times EB games, the arcade, the plant store, and I remember the theater first opening and being very impressed. I just went back a month ago after years of watching this place decline, and this place has changed beyond recognition. I don't even..... I guess the people who live around here either live in a family where both Husband and Wife are at work during the weekday or they are people who have no money to spend. Or maybe they have to share a population with the North lake mall and the Gwinnett place mall and there are 3 malls where there is only enough people for one. read more

THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER! It seems that those of us who have a nice mall like North Point are just plain bored with it while those who have North Dekalb Mall are just as bored. I appreciate this mall because it is not the typical suburban mall and it has a certain flavor that is quite refreshing. It has your basic discount stores like Ross, Burlington Coat Factory and Marshalls. It also had a Macy's which in no way compares to the North Point Macy's but is still a viable shopping option. This mall is a great asset to the community because it also has many services that benefit the community such as a fitness studio, barber shop, hair salon, dance studio for kids. This is an urban mall so you expect to see stores that reflect the make up of the community, (African inspired stores, urban clothing stores for men and women, a millinery shop that serves men and women, and hair products and accessory stores). This mall has a movie theater and a food court with three remaining restaurants. They have quite a few additional stores that I can't begin to name but are just very interesting to browse and explore. What do you want people? It's a dying urban mall! The powers that be are trying to do everything possible to keep it going and give the community a place to shop, receive needed services and gather. Be thankful! read more

Um, this mall can be super shady. I only do a pit stop because the Bath and Body Works seems to always have the scents I like that none of the others carry. That and it is on my way to Decatur. I park by Ross, look at no-one and breeze right through Ross, do my business with Bath and Body works and am out in 8 minutes or less. read more

FINALLY, this mall has been bought by Sterling for re-development into an open-air concept mall (as of 5/16/14). I'm very excited for this new, much-needed change. I went to North Dekalb Mall, a place that I used to shop at for years back in the early 2000's, for the first time in over 5 years. I was saddened by what has come of it...nearly 60% of the stores have shutdown. The only reason why I went is b/c there's a Ross and a Marshalls within a close proximity to each other. When I walked into Marshalls I was pleasantly surprised to see the crowd of mixed demographics all shopping in this fairly new and tidy store. Ross, well, it was quite disorderly, but aren't most Ross stores like that? Oh there's also a GNC and a bath&body works here. The Macy's is quite mediocre, quiet, usually no crowds. Recently, they got rid of their Junior's department. I hate having to walk around inside the mall b/c it's so creepy and quite sketch people that work here. I don't make eye contact with anyone inside the mall and speed walk to my next store. The food court was desolate and only had 1 chinese restaurant, a popcorn place, Wendy's, and a philly cheese steak place. There's also an Applebee's at the back of the mall. The AMC looked deserted as well. This mall has been needing a monstrous over-haul for a long time! It's located in an amazing area...within the Emory, Decatur, North Druid Hills perimeter!!! This is not a mall that I would recommend anyone who ask you about a mall to go to. I'm surprised that this mall is still open. I'm assuming that the theater, Burlington, Marshals and Ross (worse one I have ever been to) is keeping this mall afloat. Surprisingly, there were a lot of cars in the parking lot so somebody is shopping here. I'm a fan of Marshals and the Burlington has a good baby depot area. While I haven't had American Deli in this mall in a while or even if it is still in the mall.... but they had the best chicken philly out of all the American Deli's I have ever been to. This is not a hang out type of mall, you are going for what you want and keep it moving. read more

This place is dead and creepy. I feel bad for the people still working here. It's obvious the mall was once a thriving place, but now half (perhaps more than half) of the stores are closed. And the ones still open didn't have enough staff to handle... well, anything. We ended up putting our stuff down and leaving because there weren't enough checkout clerks to handle the minuscule "crowd" in one store. read more

This place is a dump. Half of the stores are empty, and the others seem to be struggling along. Even the theater is getting dilapidated.

One of Atlanta's premier shopping destinations if you're in the market for, say, wicker furniture or late-80s hotel art or plastic plants. Seriously, the last few times I went to North Dekalb, I half-expected to see live chickens running around. The only question at this point is when will they call it a day and sell bulk-rate socks and bootleg DVDs? Because it may as well be a flea market, which is distressing given the potential a large space like this apparently has to attract top-notch retailers like Costco and Border's. With any luck, the owner will just flatten it and start over. Still, though, someone call me if they start doing pony rides. read more

North DeKalb Mall is definitely not the poshiest of malls. Not even close. The main retail stores are Marshalls, Ross, Macy's, and Burlington Coat Factory. The fact that 3/4 of these are discount stores is quite amazing. Luckily, I like discount stores. I think I have only been to the Macy's once and it was quite some time ago. There is an AMC Theatres here. I have been once to see a Bollywood film. They are quite good for those if that's your thing. I typically also go for Bath & Body Works. Not much else. A number of the smaller establishments are typically not my things. But I have visited the African and accessories store since my mom wanted to check them out. It suits me fine for my quick discount shopping, but not somewhere I would want to hang out. read more
