They did fix it before too many guests had arrived. Then, they neglected to bring four floral displays to the burial services despite the hearse having vacuous space. Finally, as they had not brought the flowers to the cemetery, we returned to the funeral home the next day and were promptly given the Bum's Rush because they had another larger (read more profitable) funeral ongoing. We were held to our car while two of the displays were brought round (never got the other two back) by an employee who actually leaned into our window. We did manage to inquire about the death certificate, which is required for the dissolution of many estate details, and were told it was being picked up after noon that day, and would be mailed on the same. Nearly two weeks later, I called and was told. "We didn't know what to do with them; they're sitting here on my desk." Really? Have they not heard of a telephone? When I asked them to please mail them immediately, they gave my late Mother's address, and not that of our estate manager who pays the final bill for funeral "extras." I recognize that our grief doesn't constitute anything more than another day at the office for them. But when they treat people that way, I say it's time to look somewhere else for this service.

Now the multiple of errors and not caring. They had the date of her death wrong. For the obituary they spelled my grandmother's name wrong and forgot to list one of her sisters. They changed that on their website but too late for the paper. No prayer done during the wake. Gave us the information for the church the night of the wake. No one was available during the service for any issue that we had. Day of funeral messed up the order of cars putting immediate family in the back. Never gave the sign in book, thank you cards and flowers left behind. Went back after the service was done, same day, no death certificate. Very unsympathic for everything. Even inside was very dated and dirty. We paid $8000 9 years ago so it should have been a beautiful service but it wasn't. They did do a wonderful job on my grandmother, that"s the only compliment I can give them. We used this funeral home for two previous deaths without a hitch. Now we will never use them again. I hope this review helps someone out. Wish more people would write their horrible story. The other review was from 2011, this is being posted 2 years later and both reviews wete on prepaid funerals.

The building itself is very well kept. The parkig lot is large. They have several private viewing rooms. A staff member is there at the door to open both upon entry, and exit. Once inside, another staff member is there pointing you in the direction of the appropriate room. At this last 'celebration life' we attended, we were the only ongoing event (a good thing I would say all things considered) and he was handing out booklets of the deceased with family photos and the obituary. For those who keep such things, a very nice, high quality memento. There was a guest sign in book (as is usual) before entering the room. This particular family had a large turn out to celebrat the life of their deceased loved one. Along side the flower arrangements sent to the family, they had on display personal momento's from the deceased. Items that were a clear indication of how much that person had clearly enjoyed their life, and what type of life they led. It was very much a celebration of the life they had lived. After the receiving line which included siblings, children, nieces and nephews, there was another area of personal items and photos. In all, the event took up the space of two rooms with plenty of seats set out for the ceremony. The rooms have retractable walls that allow the space to be extended as needed while still buffering sound should there be more than one event happening at a time. There was a podium set up for the ceremony officient and a sound system so everyone could hear. Figuring out where to hold a funeral is a terribly stressful event. J J Duffy does a very professinal job and clearly are able to accommodate a families desire to allow the display of personal items reflective of their loved one for all to remember and enjoy.

The entrance is a little hidden....it's at the end of a long stone wall with several other closed entrances, so it almost fools you into thinking it's closed. If you're looking for HPL's grave, the family plot is at the intersection of Pond Avenue and Avenue B and very easy to find. The website has an interactive map that is somewhat helpful, except that it gets blurry when you try to zoom in - but good enough to figure it out.
