I was blown away at the quality and service provided by Dr. Fulton and her RVT team. I brought my boys in for a dental cleaning/extraction and they immediately treated them with such kindness, and softness. One of my boys is a bit more reactive to new people as he has a history of abuse from his life on the streets. The care they provided was so trauma informed and not once did he bark at them, or get nervous. I appreciated how detail oriented they were leading up to the visit, and throughout. I'm always super nervous when one of my pups needs to be out under anesthesia, and the way they supported my pups, and myself through the process was admirable. They allowed me to stay the entire time they went under for their cleanings in the room across the hall, and let me make the room more comfortable with their beds from home, blankets, and toys. This was the most incredible veterinary experience we've ever had with any of our pets! Our dog needed a dental specialist due to gastric issues posing a risk with anesthesia. I contacted them by email when they were on vacation and hoped for a reply in a week or so. The next day the answered me with a consultation appointment date. Our dog can be very shy and fearful at the vets, but I don't think he knew he was at the vets office! Their calm, kind and patient approach kept him relaxed both at the consult and at the cleaning appointment. Additionally, his blood work had irregularities that Dr. Fulton said she believed pointed to gall bladder problems and she recommended we take him to an internal medicine specialist for an abdominal ultrasound and follow up. Thank God for her because our boy just had a hugely enlarged gall bladder that was ready to rupture removed. So she literally saved his life. North Bay Vet Dentistry was the only clinic that I called (out of 9) that was able to see my dog really quickly -- I was able to schedule an appointment for the following week while all of the other dental clinics had around 2-3 month waitlists. This is because this clinic is extremely new. After talking to the clinic at UC Davis they recommended I give this place a try and I'm really glad I did! If her pre-op appointment was any indication of how good of a clinic this is, then it's definitely 5+ stars. The appointment started out with a sign at the front that greeted all of the day's patients by name which I thought was a really nice and personal touch. After getting the physical examination, the doctor sat with me for 10-15 minutes explaining the different possible procedures and why they think a root canal would be best for my dog. They were even able to schedule a next-day appointment for the procedure itself! My insurance unfortunately only covers tooth extractions and lists root canals as an exclusion. One of the vet techs told me she would gladly hop on the phone with my insurance and advocate + explain to them why they should cover my dog's root canal. This was really the icing on the cake for me and it made me feel like this clinic really cares about pet care and would go above and beyond for their patients! The pricing was upfront and as expected for this type of procedure. One of my friends actually had a similar procedure done for their dog a few months ago at a clinic in Santa Cruz, and the procedures were similarly priced. Overall I would say that the staff is really nice as well as knowledgeable. Don't let the lack of reviews scare you out of considering this place for your dental emergencies, I'm positive it'll quickly become as busy as the other vet dental clinics in the bay! read more

We brought our elder cat here and Dr. Fulton and her team were incredibly caring, warm, knowledgeable, helpful, patient and thorough. We were referred here when our original dentist's wait time was too long, and we are lucky to have been referred. If we could find human doctors like Dr. Fulton we would use them in a heartbeat. In addition to detailed explanations of what's going on with our cat's teeth (complete with example pictures) and answering all of our questions about anesthesia for elder cats and all of our options, her practice coordinated our visit to avoid traffic from San Francisco and showed us how to brush our cat's teeth better (for a significant amount of time). We felt Dr. Fulton was very honest and no-nonsense about the urgency and necessity of dental care - in this case not very urgent. Dr. Fulton said that she created this practice so that folks could access care she would want to use. That showed in every aspect of our experience! Northbay Veterinary Dentistry saved my dog Scrappy's life! I can't thank them enough! He is also a 14 year old senior dog too. I was so scared to take my pup in to get his teeth clean for 3-4 years because of his heart murmur and having him go under at a general veterinarian's practice. His teeth were horrible and his breath was so bad that I knew it was starting to affect him. It had gotten so bad to a point where my dog was getting so sick and his quality of life was terrible and had an infection. I had no choice but to get his teeth cleaned. I searched and searched... so many couldn't see him till 3-4 months out. Scrappy didn't have time. Time was his enemy. Northbay team came to the rescue and took him in right away. I had so much fears and tears for weeks before the appointment. Whet I arrived in their office I was immediately greeted with warmth and care by everyone. They will treat your fur baby like your own. I've had 4 dogs in my life but I've never had to deal with dental problems until now. I get very emotional, overly so, about my dogs, and when they need Veterinary care, it takes a toll on me. Our primary Vet somewhat reluctantly recommended full extraction, as did another dental specialist. I just could not get comfortable with pulling all of our pups teeth at such a young age. I started searching for other dental specialists and found Dr. Fulton through the AVDC. I reviewed her education and qualifications and when I spoke to her on the phone prior I got a good feeling about her. We visited her office in late July for a consultation. My wife and I were both were comforted by her, her staff, and their beautiful new office which presents a safe and calming atmosphere. We were convinced we wanted to trust her with our pup's care. The costs for a dental specialist is higher than those of our regular Vet but it gave me more peace of mind to have someone with special education and experience, plus a caring, and kindness treating our girl. It was well worth the extra money. And Dr. Fulton determined that it was not necessary to do a complete extraction, so our girl still has most of her teeth. She is her happy, healthy, self again. I brought my 15 year old dachshund in for a much needed cleaning. The whole experience was above and beyond. The staff is so kind, reassuring and thorough. I had been avoiding getting Dolly's teeth cleaned because we had a traumatic experience with another dentist a few years ago which resulted in emergency vet care and us not moving forward with the cleaning; however, when I spoke to the staff at North Bay Vet Dentistry, I knew it was the level of care I had been looking for. I opted to use the anesthesiologist they work with, not out of necessity, rather for peace of mind. The atmosphere is calm and they allowed me to stay all day and wait with Dolly before she went back (she was the second procedure of two) as well as work from the cozy exam room during her procedure. The level of care is better than some of the physicians I've been to. One of my biggest issues with veterinary care (and human medical care) is how cold and transactional it can be, this was anything but. And Dolly's teeth are so clean! Only a few extractions. If I could give 10 stars I would. My 13 year old cat had a bad case of resorptive lesions in her mouth. I had never had my cat's teeth cleaned with anesthesia before so naturally I was terrified of complications and searched for a specialist I could trust. From the consultation reservation to follow up after surgery, every single human there has been warm, friendly, empathetic, compassionate and professional. They did a wonderful job as my cat didn't even have facial swelling from getting teeth pulled which is a natural side effect and her stitches stained in tact. The office is beautiful and clean. They have a carpet rug in the room we were in which made it comfortable and inviting for my cat. They have senses of humor and helped calm my nerves because each person focuses on one role and stays with the animal during and after surgery to ensure they are safe. Plus, they are experts. They ask many good questions to ensure they understand each fur baby's unique needs, they send pictures and texts before, during and after surgery so we know they are in good care and they provide a large pillow and cozy area for your pet when you drop them off. They even include a welcome sign on the table in the lobby that says welcome to each pet (including their name) scheduled for care that day. I am very grateful to Dr. Fulton Scanlan, Ashley, Bridgit, Francesca, and the entire staff at North Bay Veterinary Dentistry. My elderly dog, Blackberry, has congestive heart failure, making him a high-risk patient for anesthesia. Because of this I had avoided getting his teeth cleaned for several years, which eventually led to a lot of problems in his mouth. The balance between heart risk and oral infection--and the potential for suffering from either of those two factors--finally tipped in the direction of needing to take care of his teeth, and I reached out to NBVD with a lot of fear for Blackberry. I was reassured by the warmth and professionalism of everyone I interacted with there, especially Dr. Fulton, who specializes in performing dental procedures on high-risk animals and has done so successfully for many years. For these cases, she said, she brings in a veterinary anesthesiologist (Dr. Wegner, also wonderful) to solely oversee the anesthesia, allowing her to work quickly in the animal's mouth and minimizing the time spent under anesthesia. Feeling that this gave Blackberry the best possible chance of a good outcome, I went ahead with the procedure. It went beautifully, they were in and out in under and hour, and Blackberry recovered in excellent shape. Dr. Fulton, Dr. Wegner, and the entire team were absolutely wonderful to work with. They are knowledgeable, communicative, and compassionate. Now Blackberry gets to enjoy what's left of his life free of the pain and systemic stress of ongoing oral infection. I'm so grateful.
