Fabulous care for our pet, and patient explanation of procedures from the vet. And really clear social distancing procedures. A+ all around.

They would do nice things like leaving special diet cat food on the porch so that I could pick it up after work, and they would add the cost to our next bill. They would also make a point to us that they appreciated that we paid our bills in a timely fashion. Nice. All that has changed. I just got off the phone with them. I was trying to make an appointment for a check up so they could resend Leo's prescription. They found an opening for us for the very next day. Cool. Well, apparently they have a new policy that they need a $50 deposit just to make the appointment. I don't at this moment have $50 to spare but I explained to them that I just deposited a large check and that funds would be available tomorrow. I also reminded them that we have been long time customers and that we have a good record paying our bill and asked them that since this was a new policy and we were all paid up if they could just give me a pass this time and I would bring them cash tomorrow at the appointment. The receptionist put me on hold. The second woman I spoke with said to me, a good customer for 14 years, no. She said she wanted to backup her receptionist rather than accommodating a long time customer. I then told her that she was forcing me to go to another vet and that I would rather stay with them as my cats have been going there almost their whole lives. (They are 18) She then told me, that was fine with her. Over the years we have spent thousands of dollars at PCH. No more. I fired them and now we go to another vet. It didn't have to be that way.

During her initial exam, I was asked about her medical history. I told her about Shilo @ CC giving me the diagnosis of Crystals causing Abby's weight gain which led to food changes and follow-up visits checking her weight with no help. Anyway, Dr Dotti was shocked and told me "Crystals are in the bladder and have nothing to do with weight gain!" Furthermore she exclaimed in no uncertain terms, "Shilo had NO right to give you that diagnosis since she is not a doctor!" Knowing she and Dr Wood are a team, I knew he had to approve and told her so. Dr, Dotti just shook her head. Moving on, I decided to leave VCA Sequoia this morning due to lack of trust and communication once again! As I move forward, I hope to find a kind and honest Vet to care for my Abby who just turned 14.

Dr. Kristensen has been above and beyond for us lately, reaching out to us consistently to follow-up and consult on a complex and frightening situation. It cost me $564 to have them do two exams on my two cats, one set of shots, and flea medication. This is much higher than any vet I've used in the area. On top of that, this bill is after fending off constant upselling on the part of the vet. She couldn't tell me what was wrong with my elderly cat because, despite a $90+ exam, she needed to do a full panel of blood work to even guess why the cat is acting a little low-energy (he's 17 years old). Despite being unable to diagnose anything with my cat, she suggested I get him a monthly shot that "some people" feel helps elderly animals with arthritis. When she told me that, I watched her write $170 on my chart, as if she was calculating how much money she could get from these shots every month. Also, she said she couldn't tell for sure if the cat has arthritis or not. Likewise, when she learned my younger cat's vaccines were out of date, she told me she would have to start the whole thing over and that I would have to take the cat in AGAIN in 6 weeks for boosters. When I pushed back on this, she dropped it and gave the cat his shots. This isn't the first time she has done this. When my cat had an abscess in the past, she used it as an excuse to send me home with bags of medications, bandages, a cat collar... all for a fairly routine and not serious injury. It truly feels like a car salesman trying to add expensive seat warmers or stereo upgrades I don't want. It makes it so I can't trust anything she says. I was also shamed by this woman. She scolded me repeatedly for letting vaccines lapse and not coming to see her sooner, even though the last few years have been really hard on my family (unemployment, deaths in the family etc) and bringing healthy cats into the vet wasn't a priority. Here I was trying to catch up on the lapse and I was told how negligent I am as a pet owner. She also discovered one of my cats had a flea and acted like it was the most disgusting thing she'd ever seen and told me *three times* how I was going to have to clean my whole house. She was in the middle of telling my how quickly fleas breed before I asked her to please stop. It was way over the top and felt designed to make me feel like a filthy person because the cat had a flea. This is ironic because the office is feeling really dingy these days. There was also a toxic atmosphere between this vet and her underlings, and they passive-aggressively bickered in front of me. The assistant also gripped my cat in such an uncomfortable, harsh way during the exam that I intervened and told her I would hold the cat instead. It wasn't hurting the cat, but it was intrusive and was adding stress to an already upsetting situation for the animal. Overall I think this is a vet to avoid.

Azul ended up with a serious bird disease that we were trying to treat over a number of months that ended with neurological complications. I was heartbroken and I still am. From my very first panicked call, trying to find an Avian vet again, your staff was incredibly kind and accommodating, getting us in quickly and treating us with such gentleness. Dr. Rupiper's deep expertise in avian medicine was evident every step of the way--he explained everything thoroughly, explored every possible option, and handled Azul with the utmost care and respect. What meant the most, though, was the genuine empathy from everyone: the reassuring conversations, When it became clear that Azul was suffering and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully, you and your team guided us with sensitivity and grace, ensuring he was comfortable as I held him close to my heart. Though Azul has crossed the rainbow bridge, I find comfort knowing we made the right decision. Your compassion helped ease an unbearable pain, and I'll always be thankful for that. Dr. Rupiper If you're seeking a veterinary hospital that truly excels with birds and exotics--and treats pet owners like family with kindness during both the good times and the toughest ones--Dr Rupiper at East Petaluma Animal Hospital is exceptional. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
