A beautiful parish where the Eucharist is treated with the awe and respect which it so greatly deserves.

During the services each of 2 Sunday services (8:00 & 10:00) hosts a brief meet & greet extending friendship and welcome to all parishioners.  The services offer a musical feast in between oral messages. The pastors rotate so that head paster Barry Crane is not always the key speaker. His sermons are special as he has a natural presentation style that is calm, reassuring and dynamic. The other pastoral staff rotates so that everyone gets a chance to lead the worshipers and to share their unique ideas. Doctrine tends to be more conservative with traditional values and practices. While some area Christian churches are heavily into political messages, this church uses a soft approach, which some members find comforting. North Sound Church is an escape to solace providing a break from all the political arguing, a place to give your mind a rest and just enjoy the fellowship it provides.

The services are streamed online and my parents watch them in the living room Sunday mornings. I have found myself wandering down and joining them in watching and/or listening to the service each week for the past few weeks. I even watched the Maundy Thursday service this year! The messages have good take-aways that can be used to guide choices and decisions in day-to-day life and the music is consistently good to great. If there are things conveyed in the sermon that one of us (me, my mom, or my dad) has questions about we'll discuss it afterwards, helping us growth in our faith together. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Some of the people I knew on the Klahaya team made note of the funny messages on the sign out front of the church. I have enjoyed reading the posted messages out front when going past as well. During the competition season they allowed us to park in the church parking lot, with permission, as overflow parking. Navigating in and out of the parking area is clear with both the entrance and exit marked. Aside from the parking, the youth program is well known and respectable. The inside of the church reminds be a bit of the feel of camp when I was young.

There were four eulogies presented: mine and my three sisters. Pastor Assink did not speak as if he knew my father as many clergy do when asked to speak at a funeral. Instead, after all four of us spoke he summarized what we had said beautifully. It required excellent listening skills and tremendous empathy. Everyone commented on how good he was and how he perfectly summarized and wrapped up the sentiments that had been presented. He is a wonderful speaker and I would recommend this church because of him

At first glance, it seems rather easy to get lost at UPCS, figuratively and literally speaking…read more But dig past the surface and you might suddenly find yourself in a wonderful palce. The first thing you'll notice about UPCS is that it is a pretty big church. Not quite at the super church level, but large enough to have its own events center that is separated from the church. The current building has been around since 1990. A large portion of the church's members have grown up in the church since their youth and are even raising their children there to this day. Thus, breaking into the church community can be intimidating for new members. However, the pastoral staff and leaders at the church all make genuine efforts to connect and plug in new members. People are constantly working toward establishing a community of unexpected love for new attendees, whether they be children, youth, or adults. The church has an established community/small group program in most of the ministries at UPCS, providing much needed support for those that need the church to be present more than one day a week. For those that wish to be plugged into a ministry or events, there are numerous channels and opportunities to become involved in the community, fellowship, or even serve at the church. UPCS is always open to new members that want to be plugged into the church, and provides the means necessary in a variety of ways. I give UPCS a 5 star rating. Not because the church is perfect or the people are super welcoming. At UPCS you'll find a lot of broken people and hypocrites. Its easy to pick at and dissect everything you find wrong with the church, because it is an community of imperfect people. I don't know about you, but one of the reasons I go to church in the first place is because I'm NOT perfect, and I need Jesus. At UPCS, you'll find imperfect people, but more importantly, you'll find people that need and seek after Jesus. I hope that deserves a 5 star rating.

Wow, didn't know you could rate churches. New concept eh?…read more Well, perhaps Jesus judged the churches in Revelation but I'm not him. However, if I may... I'll admit, this was a hard church to be at. I grew up here from the age of about 5. Served and gave my life to Jesus here. Served and got totally drained and made aware of my brokenness or perhaps was made broken here. But then, I was broken and in sin from the day of my birth. But underneath all that there is the heart cry for more that I know may exist in all other churches. This church is not worth redeeming because it is anything special nor are there special people there at the church but it IS worth redeeming because that is what Jesus died for. Jesus died for people like the ones found here at this church. So KUPC? Yea, I could attribute many battle scars here at this church. But I can also attribute that Christ used so many people here at this church to change my life forever. - Pastor Danny Kim, a.k.a. Danny Long Legs Guitar Danny Pastrdan and my personal favorite, God's beloved... And this church is full of His beloved. Blessings!
