Her attention to detail is phenomenal and the fact that she prints for all the locations in Hawaii under the firms is impressive. Thank you to Charlene Rodrigues for allowing us to set up early on the first day of service which allowed us to spend out family time directly with our dear Nangy instead of rushing during the "family visitation" time along with directing the service so smoothly with the assistance of Liz. Thank you to BJ Uwekoolani for directing Nangy's second day of service and for giving our ohana so much love and compassion all the way til the burial. Thank you to Kenneth Sharits for being the second director for the second day to assist in transporting all of the beautiful arrangements to her burial site. Thank you to Baby, Ernesta and Gerald for their housekeeping duties for both days. The facility was spotless! And thank you to Ed Laureto for your assistance in catching the errors that were overlooked by the Location Manager. We wish this could be a 5 start review however, our grandmother was placed in the wrong casket on the day of her appearance check. There was no room for error as the Location Manager had over 3 weeks to review the file. Also, on the first day of service, we provided our RSVP list and although it was confirmed by the Location Manager, it was still printed incorrectly which brought so much stress while setting up. When the office closed, we realized there were more family names missing and we didn't stress it at the end of the night because Saturdays, the Location should be in operation from 8 am to 12pm as stated online along with their postings on the business door. But we were informed that there is no administration on Saturdays which caused even more stress because we wanted everything to be done in a smoothly manner. The family should have to stress on the days of service when everything is provided to the staff. Even something so basic needs to be taught. Printing Department of Norman's Mortuary- From the initial meeting to order pick up, Norman's and their entire staff were so empathetic and full of support during our time of loss. They noitced small details that we would have overlooked being in the thick of our grief. Durning the ordering process they followed up to ensure that it was excatly as we wanted. Providing multiple proofs with all changes. Once we perfected our order and gave authorization our order was created. It came out just as we had hoped, it truly honored our father. I highly recommend their printing department. Having all of our needs and requests met made such a time smoothe so we could be present, without worrying about going to multipule places. While we didn't have our loved one's service here, we did have interaction with the staff. We unfortunately went with Ballard Family Mortuary, who also owns Norman's Mortuary. Long story short, we did a video on Smilebox, burnt it to DVD with limited success (spotty music, pauses, etc.,) and wanted to try it days before the funeral to make sure it would play on Ballard's system. The unprofessional and uncaring staff at Ballard didn't let us test it out. Instead, they referred us to Norman's Mortuary to see Marlow who is in charge of their A/V department. Norman's Mortuary has no WiFi, so we couldn't use our MacBook. We tried to download the video on Marlow's iMac but was unsuccessful because it's old and slow, so, he took us to their main office to try their computers. That's where we met Gwen, a very caring, warm, friendly, and professional staff member. She allowed us to utilize their computer to try and download the video in hopes of burning it. 3 tries were unsuccessful, pausing at 99% completeness. We thanked them and left. Come the funeral day at Ballard, we're now allowed to test out our DVD. Of course it doesn't work. They have no HDMI ports, so hooking up our MacBook or even a BluRay player wasn't possible. Two family members ended up leaving the funeral to go get our TV & BluRay player from our home because we really wanted to play the video. In the meantime, Jackie (our freelance funeral director) phones over to Gwen at Norman's Mortuary to let her know what's going on. Gwen then tells Jackie that when she turned on her computer that morning, our Smilebox video was downloaded. Gwen then burns it to DVD, and drives it to us at Ballard. What an angel. Only a naturally-caring, big-hearted person would do that. Thank you, Gwen, from the bottom of our hearts. You were a lifesaver while we were drowning. Thank you, Marlow, for giving it 110% effort. Our video played perfectly, the family saw it, and that's all that mattered. read more

Staff was very patient, super supportive and undoubtedly helpful. I must've called a million times with questions, especially because I am located off island. Raquel, Cherisse and the rest of the staff (answering the phone) were extremely helpful. Taking extra time with assisting our preparations, answering with quick response and emailing detailed information. Donnie also had to rough draft the programs a couple of times due to undecided program, which turned out beautifully done. The staff at Normans treated us like family. On the day of funeral service, it was Aunty & Matila who helped make the day run smooth, enforcing COVID best practices and helping us to keep in operation, as human beings in grief are emotionally distorted creatures. The service at Norman's Mortuary is exceptional. Most of my interactions were with Donni and Mapu who were both extremely friendly, professional and accommodating. I am the editor-in-chief of a locally produced magazine. As a publication based on the islands, we wanted to print our magazine locally. Donni and Mapu completed test prints for us to make sure that all specifications were how we needed and when we placed our official order, it was ready in less than 24 hours! The women at the front desk of Norman's were also very helpful and friendly during the billing and payment process. I highly recommend Norman's for your printing needs. My mother Velma U. Becraft was found in her home in Waihe'e on May 20th of 2020. Just 4 days before what would have been her 55th birthday. Any passing of a parent is hard. My situation is no different. Due to my mother's condition there needed to be extra tests to find cause of death/passing date, (which they never did) this prolonged receiving a death certificate. Due to the state she was in she needed to be cremated. My mother already started a burial plan with Norman's and I 100 % know why. The care and empathy this establishment shows is beyond expectation. Raquel was so gracious, she walked me through this painful process. She even called me with the actual time of my mothers cremation so I could have a moment of silence. The thought that went into all of this was beautiful. It helped so much, just to have a stress free environment to assist me in such a stressful situation. She also called me as soon as the test results came in just so I can stay up to date on the arrival for the death certificates. Raquel went ahead and ordered multiple for me, already thinking about how many people/ places I would have to take that document to. These are all things that would have flown over my head if she had not mentioned it. On top of that, I have 4 charms, one for each of my mother's siblings who live on the big island, ka'ū (where she is from) that will be filled with her ashes as a keepsake. I also have a box that will be placed in a niche at the Hilo veterans cemetery. Lastly I have an ipu that will stay with me on Maui until I am ready to spread her at her favorite beach. With all of these different items Norman's offered to separate her ashes for me, so I am not sobbing and making a mess of things. I am eternally grateful for Raquel and her awesome staff. Yes, I've been looking around for my future, making sure I get a good price on my plan, checking the place out. I wanted to start a plan already, so my kids don't have to pay for my funeral plan. I got helped by Adela and she was great, smart, and gives me the best option for me, she was looking for anything to make sure I got the best deal and cared for. I asked to see the mortuary to compare it with Ballards, and it looks clean, and I didn't know it was Koa wood until she told me. It looks bigger than Ballards and they just changed the carpets and it looks good. All though I like Ballards heavenly look, it makes it hard. But I got time to think. I understand that losing someone you love during the holidays is not a convenient time for anyone, but the staff at Norman's dropped the ball with communicating times arranged for cremation. I was told I would be contacted in a few days after identifying remains for the time schedule of cremation, which rolled into a week later, and they had only contacted his sister on the mainland by email a few days before his cremation. I was never called here on Maui, as they had promised to do. I almost didn't know about the time, had his sister not contacted me herself. Again, they dropped the ball and didn't contact me to collect his remains in a timely manner and sister on mainland had to make two follow-up calls for me to find out if the ashes we're ready to collect. I would never wish this extra grief upon anyone. Please consider using any of the other mortuary services on Maui besides Norman's, as my own experience with them was not a good one, to say the least. read more
