The customer service was lacking. We arrived and stood at the desk. After several minutes, someone…read morefinally decided they should help us and told us to write down the pottery. We plan to paint and that they would set us up. So we walked around, I had not been to paint pottery in about eight years so you could consider me a novice. We found the pieces that we wanted and waited for further instruction. 15 minutes later someone finally decided they should help us again. This is after we stood at the counter, waiting to pay for our item and point out the item that we wanted to paint. At that time we learned we were supposed to pick up the item go sit at a table, and the utensils would be brought to us. We grabbed our items and sat at the table where we had water in a jar and two sponges and a laminated paper with instructions. We then went to pick the paint brushes we thought would fit our project and were told that we needed to select our own paints. No instruction on how to select the paint, luckily my sister, who is with me, helped me figure out what to grab, and how much I could grab. With what I painted, I required more paint, but the three women were so enthralled in a conversation with a gentleman at the counter, they did not come check on us to see what we needed. I finally said loudly excuse me can I get some help and someone came over. This young girl came over and offered to bring me more paint after I explained. I ran out of paint and did not know what to do with the empty paint container because none of it was explained to me and my sister decided to go get me more paint. After the young girl walked away I heard her say this is not my job. Terrible customer service! Also, no one explained to me the process of the painting, again novice at this, and I wasn't sure if I cleaned my brush on the sponges or use the water. When we were finally done with our paintings, we sat wondering what to do next. My sister decided she would stay at the table in case we did not need to bring our painted work to the front and I went to the front counter to let them know we were done. The woman said you were supposed to bring it up to the counter and pay for it now. Thanks for more instruction that you never gave, but apparently I was supposed to know. This was a terrible experience. If I could give zero stars, that's probably what I would give.

I called and spoke to the owner about signing up for a ornament class. She explained the class and told me I could pay upon arrival. They all made me feel really welcome during the class. I signed in and picked out 3 pre cut ornaments to decorate for the evening. There were plenty precut glass choices for everyone to pick from. I've never seen so many glass choices in my life, it was truly a learning an amazing experience. I cut my glass and decorated my ornaments for approximately 1.5hrs. Time flew by very quickly. The class atmosphere was really therapeutic and relaxing. I highly recommend this class, they take reservations for parties and drops in sessions. The owner is very kind and appreciative of her customers. Great way to learn a new hobby thru out the yr. I will be taking another class in the near future.

I bought a painting that is quite large from a former resident in Sumter before he moved and I took…read moreit to Michael's to get it framed while they were having a sale on frames. I will take responsibility for not checking it right after we bought it, but my husband didn't check it right away at the store when he picked it up and was also the only one strong enough to lift it out of the box. We decided to wait until we moved to our next duty station to hang it up as it would be a hassle to drill into the plaster walls of our historic downtown home. The person in charge of the framing put it upside down in the frame (the brackets holding it length wise are positioned closer to the bottom of the frame) and also arranged the hanging wire on the width side and not the length side on the backside. So not only is our painting upside down and backwards but now we have to take apart the frame, reposition the painting and buy new tying cord long enough to hold the suspension of the length of the picture and not the width. I'd give Michael's one star but every other experience I've had with them has been pleasant except their fabric section sucks. I wish we had caught this earlier before we moved so we didn't spend over $200 getting something framed just to have to redo it ourselves and possibly break it or not put it back together properly. Now I am tasked with finding a framer in Germany to do the job properly and pay for it all over again.
